First simple ingame-menu (UI)

Slime Breeder (prototype)
A downloadable game for Windows

Hello!

For those of you who don't know about this project, I am working on a small breeding game in which you can have slime "farm". It is still under heavy development and I am yet another solo dev, so naturally progress is slow and it might look odd sometimes.

This week's progress

Today I am happy to announce a new menu screen I added into the game. At the top you can see a rather simple main menu which will contain all basic settings for the game. Beside the save button there is no actual functionality implemented yet. That is due to the lack of a setting file that I can confidently save, load and use. But you can see the general design idea.
For this I used the basic UI components from last week and I also added a focus functionality, which allows me to properly navigate and interact with the menu using a gamepad instead of the keyboard.

As you can see in the image there is still a good amount of space left and also the controls at the buttom are a bit too close at the edge for my taste. Needless to say I will modify the menu at a later stage, but then it is "just" adding new components into the already available menu here.

Further progress

As we all know christmas is coming up and therefore I expect me to be a little less productive. But once my vacation hits I am confident I can continue working on it as usual. The next step in my current phase/sprint is a backpack UI. Basically just inventory slots at the bottom, but I can also program some nice fundamental inventory logic here. I am a little worried that the backpack system won't be used in the future, but I cannot imagine having no inventory at all - even though I really want this game to not require the player to manage a whole ass inventory.
