Artstyle Design Philosophy Something Something.

As mentioned in my last blog post, I got a heavy dilemma about the art style of the game (and my 3D modelling style altogether). I believe I'm starting to figure things out, so I started to work on making a new, reworked (and hopefully final) design of the Eradicator.

The new design philosophy.

I strongly believe the reason why I dislike the current art style and design philosophy is that I make every model look too firm and sterile, with very-not-so-unique proportions. A huge contributor to that is the fact that I raw dog every design, Eradicator and Anomaly aside. Thus, I never have a good grasp of what I actually wanna do, so I decided always to make concept art of important designs. I'm also gonna receive help from a friend for environmental art. I don't want my models to have too many polygons/vertices, but also not too less. I wanna give my models a unique shape and an interesting shape to my models. 

I'm still unsure about the way I texture stuff, but I'm gonna play around with the new Eradicator model and see what sticks.

Eradicator, Redefined.

May I be honest? I really LOVE the way I designed the eradicator, but I despise the way I modelled them. Thus, I started my new art style journey by making the Eradicator reach utter satisfaction. 

First off, I started to ask around what I could improve on the Eradicator. The most common response I received was that their limbs should be connected. The reason why I made them disconnected from the main body and the rest of their limbs was that I felt too lazy and inexperienced to make good topology to make the model look good when animated. 

Also, a small list of details I wanna (should've added in the first iteration anyway) add

  • Cutlass holster.
  • Belt.
  • A more ragged look.
  • Buttons. 
  • Other misc stuff.

Now, here is a side-by-side comparison of the new (heavily) model and the old model. Please note that I started to work on the model listerally a few hours ago.
