Prototype Released

Vampire Hunter Beaumont Prototype Demo
A downloadable game for Windows

Unless I have reason to update the file (either with quick ideas / bug fixes / etc), I am done with this project and expect to move on.

The latest build contains approx. 30 minutes of content -- several levels & final boss.

Why move on?

I've spent too long on this project for how little value it will ultimately yield. Development over the last year has slowed, preventing me from learning faster as a developer. Plus, many of the foundational systems (like collision) are poorly coded, and trying to fix it in the current engine risks breaking other things.

Furthermore, this project is already far more ambitious than any developer's first project reasonably should be. I should move on -- but I do plan to come back to this concept.

What is next?

I hope work on smaller projects to improve my skills at a faster rate, while also creating better-designed systems that can be reused in future game projects. I currently do not know what those projects will or should be. Very few people care about these game projects, so there aren't any expectations one way or the other.

This project was made in GameMaker (v2022.5.0.8.), and I may update to the most recent version, but that poses a risk -- it means parts of the engine might break, preventing my ability to outright re-use the same exact project file. We'll have to see.

And thus...

If you have any feedback, feel free to make it. If there are any ideas you'd want me to consider for "the sequel" project, feel free to make them known. If there are any game crashing bugs (unrelated to collision), please let me know (and provide a proper bug report / tell me if its easy to replicate).
