#video-drop-soon #expansion-timeline
The Historic Map Pack has taken on a clearer identity this week as the aesthetic finally settled into its own lane. I spent some time refining the color palette, adjusting the halftone textures, and leaning back into the richer atlas-inspired look that feels true to Rust & Revenue. The muted denim water, the lighter checkerboard terrain, and the carefully restrained use of color give the new maps their own personality without drifting from the style that made the original game stand out. It’s a cleaner, more confident interpretation of the visual language I developed during the limited edition run, and it finally feels like the expansion belongs in the same family.
To give everyone a closer look, I’m filming a full playthrough tomorrow night on the Southeast USA map using the complete expansion rules. I’ll be playing on the 1-sheet PNP version under a transparent overlay with a fine marker so things show up well on camera. I’ll also take a moment to show the boutique physical format, which I’ve somehow never done on video. The maps, the 5 x 7 format, and the way the components sit together finally deserve a proper showcase.
The video will be split into two parts. Part one includes an intro, a look at the physical components, and Round 1 of the playthrough. Part two will cover Rounds 2 and 3. My goal is to show how these new maps behave in actual play and to highlight the small decisions and rhythms that emerge once everything is on the table.
As for release timing, the digital launch is planned for early December. The PNP versions will be available on both PNP Arcade and itch.io. This time, I’m offering two tiers. The low-ink maps will be completely free so anyone can try the expansion without friction. The full-color pack - which includes the upgraded letter/A4 formats plus the new 144 DPI 5 x 7 files - will be priced at $4 per map or $10 for the complete set. It’s the cleanest balance of accessibility and value: free for the functional maps, paid for the premium presentation.
The physical boutique edition will follow in January. It will be a small, hand-assembled run using the same 5 x 7 format as the original game. The new art prints beautifully at 300 DPI, and the physical version should feel like a proper companion to the limited run of the base game. No rush here - just steady work and the right timing. I am sourcing quality of life inclusions for the multiplayer game - player cards for turn order and potentially dice screens for the blind draft. The physical expansion will be $16 retail. Shipping will be the same flat shipping rates as before - $5 domestic and $15 international.
Conveniently, Just Games Rochester is hosting a designer day during the first week of February. I’ll be there with the new maps, a few physical expansion copies, and probably another playthrough queued up. The timing couldn’t have lined up better.
The playthrough video should be up Sunday. Looking forward to sharing this next stage.
Thank you for being part of what has made Rust & Revenue a living game. I’m genuinely grateful for the support from every corner the project has reached - from the solo-first crowd and the PNP community to players discovering it at demo tables. Seeing the game find a home around the world has been unexpected in the best possible way, and the encouragement along the journey has made the experience far richer than I ever imagined.
All the best,
Jack
