FABRIC FRIENDS - Devlog 11/18/25

Fabric Friends
A downloadable project

Hello there friends! Austin here with another devlog for Fabric Friends. This is one of our last devlogs for the game, as next week will be our thanksgiving break, and then the week after is finally the showcase!
We currently have our trailer sitting around 85%~ completion as we just needed a few minor things to make sure it is all good to go for showcase, in addition to our prep that is upcoming this Monday before showcase. With all of this being said though, we made some adjustments to many cards featured within the game since our last prototype.

Before I go on about more info regarding the game, as seen in the attached images, we got our cards printed from Game Crafter! We will be showing these cards off at the showcase so that people can get an idea of what they look like in real life. They are honestly stunning to look at in person and it feels great to see that the fruits of our labor has paid off! There is one unfortunate part though that is regarding these cards. At the time we had sent out our order to Game Crafter, we thought we were in a pretty good spot in terms of balancing, text, and graphics. In reality though, there was still a lot that we needed to tune to make sure the cards were as perfect as they could be. Though these cards look great, they more or less serve as a proof of concept and aren't the exact ones we would use in a final build, so please keep that in mind. Even so, just for looks and proof of concept, they look amazing. We can still salvage some of these cards for in person play, but a good majority of the creature cards would not necessarily be able to be played. Production and card making aside, I would like to talk about what really is in the fourth prototype for the game.

For the fourth prototype, the goal was to streamline a lot of the text amidst all of the creature cards within the game, what I mean by this is stating things like damage, clearly stating what each move does and its actions, as well as including certain vocabulary that would make sense to the player when they read the card.  The more basic creature cards also now have a small little glowing purple needle icon that dictates that they can participate in the Stitch-Up mechanic of the game. Any of the silk cards (our mid tier cards) are not eligible to be apart of this system for balance purposes.  In addition to this, we also decided to retire the trivia system that we had in the previous iteration of the game. The trivia system felt arbitrary as if you got the answer right (as in, if you knew all of the answers), then you were basically always guaranteed to get the buff within the game. There was also no way we could really prepare players to know the answers to the question either. We had good intentions with this system, but it fell kind of flat on its face so that's why we decided to retire it early. We feel that the state the game is in right now, it has done what we wanted it to do as a transformational game. The systems, naming, cards, and move sets that we designed all were thought of with the general brief in mind. We did our best with the time we were given and we hope that you (the players, or the reader), will enjoy what we have prepared for you guys if you see us at the showcase.

As far as work after this current prototype goes, here is a general list of things that will be completed by the following members:

Austin: Iron out a proper rule-sheet for the game and finish editing the trailer
Logan: Finalize the logo for Fabric Friends
Sean: Work on the power point that will be used at the showcase
Gadson: Write up the "Teachers Guide" for Fabric Friends

To round things out, the overall idea of this near final build of the game was to absolutely balance the cards the best we could and also streamline the text to make it sensible to any player of the game. As we move forward, we will be working on our presentation that will also be shown off at the showcase, in addition to this, we also are going to nail down some solid rules for the game to make sure the clarity is there for people who want to try out the game for their selves.

Until next time, thank you our dearest Fabric Friends!
