Crop Undercover
A downloadable game

Hi everyone! Welcome back! This is Hannah Gibson reporting to you on the current state of our 495 game, Crop Undercover! As Sprint 5 came to a close, I am very proud of my team getting so much amazing work done! They went above and beyond this sprint, and I have nothing but praise for their hard work. To start, Crop Undercover is a 2-4 player party game where 1 player is selected to be a farmer, and must search for the other players in a mirage of AI crops. It is a fun and exciting game to play with your friends while chilling on the couch.

Our main goal this sprint was to make sure we have a playable build with the new changes that were recently made! This was also my first sprint as the official producer and things went a lot smoother than last sprint. I will now discuss all of the amazing things that my team did this sprint as well as any challenges that we may have faced.

PROGRAMMING

This sprint, we were lucky to have Alex programming alongside Judith and Elizeo. He made all of the changes to fit Diego’s ideas for the game, for example, changing the movement system to fit the rotated map, and completely revamping the AI system, utilizing NAVmesh agents to tell the AI where to go. That helped tremendously, as one of our main concerns was that the AI system was not believable, and it was way too easy to spot them against human players. Elizeo worked hard this sprint in implementing the different forms of UI feedback for the players, working on death feedback and harvest feedback. Judith worked on finishing up the main title screen so that there is a nice flow through the beginning stages of the game, making sure each canvas page works as intended! Our programmers killed it this sprint and made the game feel much more polished!

3D ART

As I fully assumed this role, the two 3D artists, Mo and Dalia, completed a lot of work, and all of it looked absolutely amazing! Dalia worked on modeling more assets to fill out the levels, making an awesome workbench for the farmer, making a scarecrow, and making the dock and pond area for Level 2. Mo worked hard on creating lighting assets to use in Level 2, making a light post and lantern, as well as creating more environmental assets for the levels. They did such amazing work and are very driven to get things done in their own time! I am very proud of them, and they never cease to amaze me.

2D ART

Calvin did such an amazing job on getting a lot of assets done! We wanted to implement a player icon to make it easier for the players to have some form of feedback in the game, and he did just that. He is working on making 12 different player icons that the players can choose from, and has completed the in-game player icons that will populate while the player is actively in the game. Due to the lack of animations needed at this point in development, I have given some of our very talented Animators some work involving 2D art, and they did absolutely fantastic! Jordan Anderson was tasked with making different 2D pixel art. He made awesome animals to help fill out the level, and I think it will look awesome when they are inputted into the game! Symon Belcher also began doing some 2D art, focusing on drawing out menu backgrounds, and they all looked great!

ANIMATION

This sprint, there was not too much animation left to assign. Luckily, the animation team has been very flexible! Our animator this sprint, Samantha Grim, did some amazing work on animating environmental assets. She went ahead and animated exit gates and the silo!! Everything looked so great!

SOUND

This sprint, we were finally able to get some sounds in the game! Tyler Mathson, our Sound Designer, created so many awesome sounds for the game! We sent over some concept art to him and after some discussion, he was able to produce sounds that were exactly what we were looking for! He made our main menu music, button noises, farmer noises, menu sounds, etc. I am so excited to finally have sound that we can implement into the game!

Overall, this sprint was amazing! I am very proud of the team and all of the hard work that they have done! This sprint, I went a little overboard and assigned a total of 235 points! My team crushed that and finished 163 of those!! That is amazing! We hope you will stick around to see this game come to a close!
