v2.0
Posted November 10, 2025 by WQON
- Added a new OpenType feature that automatically changes the letter “X” or “x” to a multiply sign when used next to numbers.
- The entire font was redrawn and redesigned from scratch, following a strict rule: each glyph is only 4px tall and 3px wide (with a few exceptions like parentheses or the Cyrillic letter Ii).
- UPM (units-per-em) changed from 1152 → 448.
- Line height is now smaller thanks to improved metric management — the suggested display size is now 7px instead of 9px.
- Font family name changed from MiniByte to minibyte — it simply fits the concept better.
- Kerning has been re-calibrated for more stable and balanced spacing.
- minibyte now comes with a new, freer license, allowing installation on unlimited devices and sharing the font with friends.
- The “WNT” stamp has been moved from a prefix to a suffix to make the name more neutral and easier to search for.
- Removed the Greek alphabet — lowercase Greek letters are too complex to fit within the 4px grid.
- Removed ligatures, which didn’t make sense in an all-uppercase font.
- Removed uncommon math symbols and other clutter that made minibyte messy.
- Removed contextual alternates for ”@” and “®” — these now have a single, calibrated design.
