It has been a long time since our last devlog because we have been hard at work at some absolutely massive systems that have taken a very long time to complete. We are finally ready and excited to announce version 2.1 of the Magic Bookstore as our Fall update! You may wonder what happened to version 2. Funny story, the NPC system made for v2.0 was so unstable that we needed to spend another 4 months reworking it. So these release notes will include the updates since v1.9. Without further ado, here are the changes:
Major Changes (2.0):
- Complete remodel of the bookstore interior
- Complete remodel of the northern side of the town.
- Updated art for Dale.
- NPC Shops: you can purchase items from Sar!
- Day/Night cycle: A clock shows the current in-game time. Don't stay up too late or you will pass out!
- NPC Scheduling! NPCs now have their own calendars with daily tasks that tells them where to go and what to do.
- Vlad, Liliana and Dale now have homes to go to
- Added more bookstore content after Day 1
- Liliana and Vlad will come into the bookstore on day 2
- Dale will come into the shop for a potion on day 3 if you've met him, and Vlad will always come in
- Several bug fixes, particularly for how NPCs work
Major Changes (2.1)
- NPC World Pathing: NPCs know how to get from one part of the world to the next, and exactly how long it takes to travel.
- Rework of NPC scheduling:
- fixes everything added in v2.0
- fixed continuity issues with NPCs being where they are supposed to
- NPC Gifts: you can hold items and give them to NPCs! See how they react!
- Updated item sprites
- Updated Vlad art
Minor Changes:
- moved recipe pages around in the world.
- add Sage plants to Crossroads
- new secret potion recipe???
Bugfix:
- Player sprite no longer flips a lot when walking up
- Save system loads books correctly, ensuring Vlad always spawns when he should on day 1
- Fix scoot after casting pickup spell
