Devlog #1-3
Hello, itch.io community! This is the official debut of Under Two Skies' devlog presence here.
You might be wondering why this is labeled 'Devlogs #1–3', right?
I’ve just launched this page, but development has been underway on Patreon for a few weeks by now. Since many users will find us here first, this post serves as a concise recap of our initial progress.
⭐ IMPORTANT: devlogs here are concise, public summaries.
Full, detailed devlogs are available to our supporters on Patreon.
Devlog #1
The beginning of development, with many things to be decided and adjusted. To have as much time as possible to the game, I decided to publish weekly updates, with minor notes along the week if I feel they are interesting enough.
Planning: The beginning of development, where many core decisions and adjustments were made.
- All base architecture is now set: characters, menus, options, and general project structure.
- Initial work on the game's visual style; designing backgrounds and sprites.
- Created animated intro screen early on to establish the game's "mood."
- Implemented the first interactive objects and the basic Point-and-Click structure.
Devlog # 2
- Began work on our in-game social media, 'Facelist,' quickly achieving a satisfactory initial result.
- Point-and-clic segment improved with new HUD and simplified code (requires further polish).
- Working on modal windows for objects, now with more interaction.
- Improvements on interface: fonts, icons.
- Improved the 'Extra Options' menu. The Music Room is now set with track controls.
- Implemented the core relationship system code and initial adjustments for easier scripting integration.
- Set up the "Choices" screen for tracking player decisions at crucial plot points.
- Reworked on interface; game fonts set. Removed Font Awesome, adopting Material Symbols from Google (more options and free).
- Implemented initial gamepad compatibility and detection. The game menus now show specific icons for Xbox, PlayStation or Steam Deck controllers.
Devlog #3
Working on John's journal, this took most of the week.
- Revamped the core system from the original Encyclopaedia Framework to fit our needs.
- Added new visual effects for characters and faces when they are communicating via phone or internet.
- Reworked the dialogue screen with new visuals.
- Simplified the code for the relationship system for more straightforward usage in the script.
- Seven new line-arts for John's Journal and colored them by hand.
- Two new Journal entries were written.
