Jose DevLog #1: UI and Style

Cat Fishing
A downloadable game

Hi everyone!

This weekโ€™s DevLog is going to be shorter, I was I was sick for most of the week, but here's what I got for you!

๐ŸŽฎ Main Menu Prototype
I put together a very rough draft of the main menu, right now it has three buttons.

  • Play โ†’ itโ€™s working, but at the moment it just loops you back to the same menu (kind of like refreshing the page).

  • Options โ†’ not hooked up yet, since we still need to decide what makes sense to include.

  • Quit โ†’ quits the game. Can you believe it?!

I also recorded a short clip to show it in action.

๐ŸŽจ Exploring the Look
I also spent time this week exploring what the style of the game could be. My goal is to keep it cutesy and simple.

  • ๐Ÿพ Paw prints โ†’ buttons or indicators.

  • ๐Ÿˆ Cat arms โ†’ cat paws swiping at the lure.

  • ๐Ÿ˜บ Cats โ†’ cat look for after being caught or when in collection.

  • ๐Ÿ‘€ Peeping tom โ†’ cat peeking from the side of the screen, popping up randomly on main/pause menu, like when your cat spies on you.

  • ๐ŸŽฃ Background pattern โ†’ a repeating design of different cat toys, since the lures are cat toys.

๐Ÿ“Œ This Weekโ€™s Focus

  • Decide what goes in the Options menu.

  • Figure out which UI elements are needed for core gameplay.

  • Continue refining assets and style.
