First, I sketched 3 potential ideas for my new title screen for Secrets of The Hopspital [will be released with next update]. Each concept was different:
The first design [above] was intended to be a remake of the same title screen: Crimson and a burrow. The main differences would be the fact it's hand-drawn [with edits], and the addition of the shadows near the portal, as well as Crimson's pose being different.
The second design [above] was to involve Patches, RGB, Magenta, Crumbs, the Monster, Ivory, Crimson and the baby bunnies all on one screen. This was the design I went with, as it was the most detailed and therefore best suited for a title screen where it is the first thing the player sees. There's actually a lot of allusion in this design [Crumbs in front of the Monster, Magentas wings, etc.].
The third design [above] is another remake of the old title screen. It was meant to show Crimson fighting the Monster at night, quite different from the first screen, but it again felt too basic in comparison to the second option.
Upon choosing the second design, I made a new sketch and made the lineart, and then erased the sketch [below]. Notice the poses are mid-motion. The lines build form through having different shades/value. Also notice the grass- the texture is as detailed as I could make it. I actually had to remake this drawing due to the errors in the first copy [didn't photograph], and even in this copy, the red on Ivory is a bit intense and the page tore at the bottom [I repaired it with tape on the back as at that point I already put a lot of effort].
I then added colour [above]. I used my woodless graphite pencils to add the black, and a mix of coloured pencils and markers to get the right colour. For example, I actually mixed orange, purple, and deep red to get Patches' brown fur tone!
I finally added liquid graphite to fill in the Monster, and add some dripping "shadows". I also added lines to further improve the motion, and touched up some uncoloured parts. [above]. The final project also uses asymmetrical balance, I noticed. Crumbs and the Monster sit in the middle, 2 bunnies and the three baby bunnies sit on the right, and Patches and the 2 other bunnies sit at the left. [above].
BONUS: I edited the image digitally to suit the screen better using filters, and I drew over any mistakes or anything I wanted to exaggerate the colour of using different kinds of layers [below]. I also added sunlight using these digital tools.
The image is larger in-game, I had to make it smaller to fit in the post. The black border gets covered by the menu bar [start, save, load, etc].
