Devlog #3 Making "TEN"

TEN
A browser game made in HTML5

For the first week of making TEN, it was mostly brainstorming and creating a prototype. The prompt for this assignment was to make a puzzle game! I was most familiar with Godot so I chose that as the engine I would work in so that I could refer to previous projects easily, and I wouldn't have to spend as much time learning an engine I wasn't familiar with. My first thought was to make an escape room. One of the first things I did was search up tutorials on how to make an escape room and so I came across a Youtube video where somebody made a simple escape room that was centered around mouse interactions, and so I went with that idea. I like choosing my mechanics and finding helpful tutorials and basing my game around that so that I’m not scrambling for tutorials on how to do x,y, and z in the middle of my game-making process. I also found a how to make a keypad passcode tutorial and so I decided I would make an escape room where you need a 4-digit passcode to escape the room. I drew out the room and puzzles on paper first, then once I got all my puzzles and clues figured out, I headed over to Godot. I followed the tutorials, and from there, I had a working prototype. I was able to click on objects in the room, and then it would open up a zoomed in version. I was also able to make the passcode work. All that was left was replacing the assets so the game would actually make sense, and then the UI.
