Dev Log Week #2
- Ended up being a little behind schedule, having to do the second and third door a little later than originally planned.
- Start up with setting up the second door.
- Made some tweaks and adjustments from the first door scenario. For instance, instead of the safe providing scissors, it made sense it provided the passcode to unlock the first door.
Concepts removed:
- Removed the crowbar concept.
- Removed the broaden up cabinets concept, they are no longer boarded up.
- Removed the idea of another room, it’s just a hole in the wall behind the washing machine.
Passcode 2: The second passcode, a sequence puzzle where you must select the shapes in the right order. You can use the washing machine and push it under the loose brick, pry it out, and get half of the page (TRIANGLE, SQUARE, CIRCLE, RECTANGLE, SQUARE, STAR).
- There’s a closet where there’s a hanger inside. You can unwrap it and be able to use it to grab the key inside of the sink. You use it to unlock the safe, where it gives you a piece of paper. In the mattress, you’re able to tell there’s something in it, but you’re unable to tear it apart. You’ll need something to cut it open.
- You use the pair of scissors you found and cut the mattress up. Inside of the mattress, you come across a small box. In the box is the other half of the missing page (CIRCLE, RECTANGLE, CIRCLE, STAR, SQUARE, STAR)
- (Just make it simple and have it as passages and the player has to choose them in the right order, if not, it returns the player back to the basement room to continue finding clues)
Passcode 3: The third and final passcode, a time-based passcode, where the player must activate a switch and quickly type in the code before it changes. Perhaps the player must clear surroundings so they can run to the door fast enough. Where the switch is located is located down in a long tunnel, which won’t be enough time for the player to get out of (it opens a passage telling the player they’ve run out of time.) They will need to find a way to activate the switch without going down the tunnel. That is where the twine (haha pun) comes into play. You find some twine at the other side of the room inside of a drawer, so you can use it to tie it around the switch, pull it, and have enough time to get to the door and type in the passcode. You are automatically given 10 seconds to achieve this task (in the case the player doesn’t write the code down at all) which results in returning to the basement and having to re-tie the string again.
- After examination, this later gets revised.
- Updated: For the third and final passcode, it does revolve around time, but it’s simpler than the concept I had prepped beforehand. Instead, you simply need to retrieve the piece of paper with the password for the third and final door and just need to type it in as fast as possible into the box before time runs out. If you succeed, you’re able to open the door and escape, if you fail to put it in on time, or if you type it incorrectly, you’re sent back to trying it again until you get it right.
