After conducting the playtest for my prototype, my questions were answered, and I got some good feedback on what I can do to improve and add to the game.
For the movement, all the play testers had no issues with it, some even enjoying the glide effect the movement has. I received no issues with how it controls, and the speed seems to be working for now, I will have to adjust it for when we develop bigger levels for the player to walk through.
For the dialogue boxes, most of the play testers liked having the dialogue be displayed at the top of the screen to avoid obstructing the scene. But I got a suggestion of having the dialogue be displayed depending on where the character speaking is, like how I had it for the triangle in the second scene. I really liked this idea and will keep it in mind for designing the look for the boxes.
Something that I will change about the dialogue is to have the player press E to go through the dialogue to keep it consistent especially when interact with the NPCs using the E key. I should also experiment with the font size and speed of the dialogue and test it out more to see what appeals to the player more.
Overall, I would consider my playtest as a success, and I will use this as a chance to improve and develop upon my new ideas for the next prototype. I am planning on fixing the dialogue up a bit and figure out how to display the buttons in a more appealing way.
To go with the new concept “Corrupted Vision”, I had previously had the idea to have a transition between different scenes to add more juice to the game, so I will use this opportunity to think of some interesting ways to have the player travel to different levels without having it feel so bland with the basic scene change.
