Art Unification – From Research to Assets (Final Phase)

This is the final phase of my Art Unification project for Space Survivors.

It began with research into the long, wandering history of space pirates in sci-fi (1966–2005) — figures drifting between law and legend, hunted and free all at once. That lore became the spark for a moodboard and palette shaped by the feeling of no way home. Frozen depths. Toxic wastes. Fiery hellscapes. Not the wonder of stargazing, but the moment when the wonder of the stars turns into survival.

From there, I pulled together a set of CC0 sprites, chosen not just for how they looked alone but for how they could belong together. I built mockups and notes to show ships, enemies, and hackable cargo as part of one world. Not just sprites — but examples, possibilities, starting points.

This pack was curated for TheMaJestic14 to support the vision of Space Survivors — an indie roguelite game in development where you’re hunted in the depths of space, hacking for companions, fighting impossible odds, carving a path through hostile stars. The mechanics were already strong: hordes, bosses, upgrades, chaos. But the dev felt it deserved an art style that carried the same weight.

I may still share an honorable mentions update with UI and music resources I found that fit the vibe as well. I hope this project helps you see the world of space pirates more clearly, and inspires the dev — and anyone else reading — to imagine what your own space or survival game could grow into.
