Devlog #1 – Back in the Game with Cupling

Cupling
A browser game made in HTML5

So… I’m back. After a long break from game development, I decided to pick up the keyboard again and make something small, silly, and hopefully fun. That something is Cupling (short for Cup Keliling), a one-button arcade platformer where your cup buddy just keeps walking, and all you can do is tell it when to jump.

Why a one-button game? Honestly, I’ve always been fascinated by how much fun you can squeeze out of a single input. Plus, when I was a kid I used to play this chill little one-button jump game (don’t ask me the name, my memory is trash). That game stuck with me, and now here I am, trying to make my own version of that “simple but addictive” vibe.

The Hard Part: Levels

Let me be real: designing levels is a nightmare. Coding? Fine. Art? Manageable. But coming up with new, clever obstacle courses? That stuff makes my brain melt. Right now the game has 3 levels you can play through, but each one took way too long to piece together. I’m not exactly a fountain of endless creativity, so… if you’ve got ideas, throw them my way. Seriously, I’ll take all the help I can get.

The Look

For the visuals, I went with a cute and simple pixel art style. Nothing flashy—just clean, colorful, and friendly. Think of it as a little digital playground for a runaway cup.

What’s Next?

This is just the beginning. I’m planning to add more levels, wall-jump shenanigans, maybe some fun twists later on. But I’d also love for players to pitch in with ideas. Want to see spikes that move? Levels that flip upside down? A cup that wears a hat? Drop your thoughts—this project is as much yours as it is mine.

Thanks for checking out this devlog, and thanks even more if you try the game. Failing repeatedly is half the fun, I promise.
