Alpha Update 2.12

Finding Color in the Ashes
A downloadable game for Windows

Hey everyone.

Here is update 2.12! Next update on itch.io will be in a few weeks, but the 2.2 update is already available on Patreon.

This build includes the brand new patrol system, and comes with a lot of content centered around that system. There are 5 new points of interest to visit and explore, some new NPCs, new events and reworked balance.

This update really effects the core progression of the game, so I really do recommend starting a new save to check it out. It might still work fine with a late game save, but not a lot of testing was done with anything past the first winter.

There will be a lot more added to this system in the next few updates, including the ability to post bounties so that adventurers can help you clear out monsters in the forest. There will also be a variety of night events and points of interest for scout to explore.

Alpha 2.12 Patches Notes

Added

  • New SFX
  • New Weapon: Warhammer. Rolls with Power and has the Momentum trait.
  • New Weapon trait - Momentum: Get a damage bonus when have multiple of the same dice roll in your attack. Doubles gets +3, triples is +6, four of a kind is +12 and then +6 for each step above that.
  • New NPC: a friend-shaped lizard
  • New NPC: Ole
  • New Tea: Ole's Tea.
  • New Forge material: Starsteel Ore
  • Three new research topics
  • New Quest: The Star Tower
  • Complete rework of Patrols, hunting, and gathering
  • New Events
  • New Points of Interest

Adjustments

  • Substantial rewrite to the way the game tracks time + events.
  • Some tweaks to research / late night reading
  • After a specific event, Scout might bring you army dogtags in the morning
  • Reduced increase to max stamina from going on patrols
  • Reduced Ailis' brogue. She'll reserve it for her more excited moments.
  • You will now need to trade 5 patrol notes to Scout for her monster loot
  • Small adjustments to forge UI
  • You can now only auto-kill enemies you'll already fought at least once. Auto-killing low level enemies could sequence break Scout's story.
  • If you encounter injured soldiers in the forest, you can use the battle-heal spell to help them
  • Adjusted order of some events

Fixes

  • Could overspend on the mining expeditions
  • It was possible for the 2nd slot in Experimentation to come up blank
  • Various Typos
  • Various UI fixes
  • Merchants will show up again after winter.
  • Deedra dialog was the wrong color in prologue
  • The UI for visiting the mining camp indicated it took a time slot, this isn't the case
  • Even at 0 energy, you could still fool around with Scout and Ellie
  • Haste potion was showing incorrect prices unless you back out of the menu and re-entered it
  • Buying supplies from the guest menu had the incorrect costs during winter
  • Sometimes army guests would still show up if you closed the inn early
  • Feybloom, Fey Armor, and Fey Dagger growth progress wasn't saving correctly
  • Patrolling + winning a fight wasn't lowering area danger anymore than just patrolling
  • Lucy's morning dialog triggering at incorrect time
  • Possible to spawn day-time POIs during night patrols
  • The morning action menu could despawn in some circumstances
