Rise Of The Monarch
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Hey everyone !

We’re close to the end of the second week of work on version 0.5.

CODEX WRAP-UP

The last touches on the Codex are finally done. It has been a heavy system to tweak, but I’m happy to say it is now fully functional. All the groundwork is in place, which means from here on out it will simply be a matter of feeding it new entries as the story expands. No more structural headaches — just pure world-building.

Most of my time this week was spent working on incrementing the class values as displayables.

What a headache…

At first I tried building the strings the wrong way, and of course nothing updated properly on screen. The trick was to use Ren’Py’s string interpolation instead of str(). That way, the values update live instead of staying frozen. Simple once you know it — but it cost me a lot of time to figure out.

Another tricky part was making sure I could add text cumulatively while the player continues through the story and affection paths. I ended up creating a very simple system — obvious now that it works, but surprisingly hard to figure out at the time. I’m really a noob when it comes to coding ^^’

STORY PROGRESSION

The little time I had left went into writing and implementing the new narrative content. This update digs deeper into the lore, which is always a balancing act: giving players enough information to understand the bigger picture, without turning the story into 600 lines of pure exposition.

ABOUT THE FUTURE UPDATES

With Blender 4.5 I discovered a few tweaks that should greatly improve both my workflow and the overall quality of renders. Nothing groundbreaking, but I finally have a better grasp on how to use it. I really think we’ll take a huge step forward after 0.5.

Especially when it'll come to the end of october update

That’s it for this week. Next week will be all about polishing these new sequences and making sure they blend smoothly into the flow of the story. As always, thanks for following along — your support keeps this project alive.
