0.4.1 Patch Notes

Tower of Modula (Early Access)
A downloadable game for Windows

Long time no see. It's been many months, but surprisingly...I'm still consistently working on this project! I've been chipping away very slowly on the weekends, so I haven't had much to post about until now.

The last time I made a devlog, it was for 0.3.1, so I'll post a long set of patch notes roughly sorted by the builds I showed some folks privately.

It's been roughly one whole calendar year since I started working on this game. To be honest, it's been taking me much longer than I hoped it would! The scope got slightly out of control. Though I'm only able to put a few hours into it per month, so I guess the speed of progress is understandable. That said...we're definitely past the halfway point now! At least, in terms of content. In terms of what calendar date it'll be done? I have no idea. Finishing in 2025 would be nice, but probably not realistic.

ROADMAP PRIORITIES

  • Add my own music and sound effects. Currently, everything is still using placeholder sound.
  • Add more moments where the party members talk to each other.
  • The most consistent piece of feedback I get is "I wish I could see how much MP I have while selecting a Skill." I'm going to find a way to fix this. It might involve re-arranging the battle screen layout. 
  • Need to figure out what I'm doing about restoring HP between battles. For now, having three bottles to drink from probably makes the game too easy.

Version 0.4.1

  • Fixed 2 errors in the text: In one case, I called a character the wrong name. In another case...I used the word "unflappable" as a descriptor for someone. "Unflappable"...what was I thinking?

Version 0.4.0

  • Floors 9, 10, and 11 have been added.
  • Normal floors now only require you to win 2 battles to proceed, instead of all 3.
  • Frosty now has a skill called Triple Barrier, which applies 3 layers of barriers.
  • Flame's chance to evade has been reduced.
  • "Subclasses" have been renamed to "Classes." For example: Warrior and Thief are now Classes.
  • Added sound effects when a Guide brings you to a new floor.
  • New Equipment Slot: "Gems". Equipping Gems give you Bonus Action Skills.
  • Added a rat to Floor 4
  • The Vampire, Wizard, and Jester have been named Mirk, Nicholas, and Enzo respectively
  • Added an intro cutscene. These are just still images and text, but I'll be calling them "cutscenes" from now on.
  • Added a cutscene that triggers when you climb the stairs before each boss floor (before F3, F6, F9, etc.)
  • Nerfed Poison Apple's "Regenerate" skill and slightly lowered its max HP.
  • Witch, Warlock, and Ogre Warlock now have battle sprites
  • Various small text revisions, such as changing the battle victory message.

Version 0.3.5

  • Revive has been renamed to "Quick Revive", and now only heals 10 HP after reviving.
  • Lightwave deals 1 less damage to enemies
  • Chance to successfully Steal has been raised from 70% to 80%
  • Poison Apple is now an Earth type and is resistant to Poison.
  • Fixed a few Skills so that they aren't selectable outside of battle.
  • Removed the white screen flash and zoom-in effect when starting a battle. Big thanks to Neel from MythAtelier for helping with this, in addition to tech support about all sorts of RPG Maker issues.

Version 0.3.4

  • After Floor 1, the game no longer reminds you to equip trinkets in your Equip menu. Instead, it tells you what trinket you found.
  • I've colored some words for emphasis in dialogue.
  • Added slight shading to Vampire's overworld sprite.
  • I've removed some unnecessary settings from the Options menu to make it more streamlined.
  • Skills now have small icons in the menu, indicating if they deal damage, restore HP, restore MP, etc

Version 0.3.3

  • In item, renamed "Weapon" category to "Subclass" (this was changed again in 0.4.0 to be "Class")
  • Simplified item menu to only 3 categories: Trinket, Subclass, Key Item
  • Slightly nerfed the amount of self-healing from Rage.
  • Fixed a few typos.
