Hey everyone!
I’ve been working hard on a round of optimizations and balance tweaks, and I’m excited to share that Nights of Nil now runs right in your browser here on itch.io! No downloads, no installers — just click Run Game and you’re in.
Engagement on the downloadable build was low, and I realized asking everyone to grab and install an .exe was putting up a wall. So I set out to get the game running smoothly in web format — and after a lot of tinkering, it finally does!
To make sure performance stayed solid, I made a few key changes under the hood:
Scaled-down world maps → keeps the instance count low
Resource economy rebalance → fewer trees/rocks overall, but each one gives more wood and stone to keep things balanced
Much faster load times → worlds now generate from a prebaked binary file instead of multiple heavy tile-by-tile passes
Cleaner flora generation → bug fixes + tweaks for more natural plant distribution
Result: loading a new game or a save is dramatically faster, and the browser version runs smoothly without sacrificing the core gameplay loop.
This update also includes a ton of small improvements to worldgen and flora placement. While not as glamorous as new biomes, these fixes make the islands feel more polished and alive.
The game is just a click away now — no installs required.
Please give the browser version a try and let me know how it runs for you! Performance and balance feedback is especially helpful as I keep tuning for web.
That’s it for this update — it might not be the flashiest, but it’s a huge step toward making Nights of Nil more accessible and smooth for everyone. Thanks as always for helping me test and shape the game.
