Monster Heat is officially in a state where I like what I have created! I still have plans for future content, but for now, the map is done, the monsters are done, and most of the big features of the game are done.
Why the big wait? Well the game has gotten a restructure in it's code. No longer are maps and monsters baked into the game but instead, everything uses a more dynamic system where you could add and remove monsters, change the maps and do all sorts of things... Which leads me to...
MOD TOOLS ARE FINALLY IN THE GAME!
This was a big goal of mine mid development. I saw how easy it was to make monsters and maps and thought what the players could do it they were given these tools! Having made the game in a custom engine allows me to easily add this. Mod tools are now a thing. But for now, as of version 0.1 of the mod tools, you can only make custom maps, which I know isn't a lot, but it's something!
As for now, mods remain in a very small file size, considering that you also have to use .zip files to send them to another person. So sending them around won't be a problem.
How do mods work?
In your Monster Heat game folder, you will find a Mods folder. Inside will be a test mod. All you have to do is drag and drop folders containing the mod data and load up the game. In the bottom left corner of the screen you will see what mod is currently loaded, and if you want to switch back to the base game, simply restart the game. Saves do carry across mods, but be careful as to not get stuck inside a wall when loading from one mod into another.
Base game changes:
Some monsters have gotten a buff here and there, the slimes got a nerf, the werewolves got a nerf, nothing special. The biggest change is that the map is now 128x128 tiles instead of the previous 64x64, making the game maps double in size. This will be the final size of all maps since I don't want to break any older mods with future updates. Also there is a whole new map made with the mod tools, to show off what you can make in just an hour or so.
That's it for now, for those who aren't interested in UGC, sorry for the small update but from now on, there will be one or two big updates to the base game and some small tweaks. But besides that, the Mod tools are going to be getting more attention now since it lacks major features. There will also be a discord made, for those who want to share the mods.
Thank you for being patient while I try to figure all this stuff out, much love and hope you have fun with the game!
