The GMTK Game Jam has come and gone for 2025, and we made our first ever game jam submission! … It was broken
A ridiculous oversight of one letter in our code made it so the main level wouldn’t be loaded properly when you hit the Start button on the main menu. By the time we realized what was wrong, it was too late. Submissions had closed, our fate was sealed. While we here at Aphelion Entertainment are disappointed that we had to be disqualified from the jam (of course we understand why, our game didn’t work), we’re still so proud of what we created. For our first jam, we’re deeply pleased with what we accomplished. We made a game! Start to finish! In 4 days! We worked together well, we finished everything we actually planned to, and we brought it together into something we really liked. And now we can only continue to improve and learn from here. We certainly won’t be making the same mistake twice! We have so much more in our plans for Splashdown, and for other projects, and we’re much better equipped to accomplish them now
We’ve updated the version of Splashdown on the Itch page to be the properly working version. You can now actually play the game. Now that we have a working version, we hope you’ll give it a try. Feel free to leave feedback, comments, questions, etc. It may not be the best looking game, it may not be the most polished, but it’s ours and we like it. And who knows? Maybe we’ll make Splashdown into something really impressive in the future! Only time will tell. For now, we’ve got more work to do
