As tempting as it may be to come up with a extensive list of creatures for the adventurers to fight or flee from, a simple solution is provided:
Pick your favorite monster from Fighting Fantasy (or one of its bastard sons) and reduce 4 from its SKILL: that's the creature's Level. Roll 1d6 hp/lvl; only heroes have Luck. Special abilities are easy enough to adapt, noting that large beasts deal +1 or more damage and many creatures have some kind of protection.
By the way, that means your lvl 1 adventurer has the equivalent of a SKILL 5 -- so watch out!
