itch.io Recommends: a whole bunch of animals

How about that itch.io sale that just ended? Pretty wild huh? Well we’re back with a new batch of games to recommend to fill your time in case you missed the sale or have somehow finished all of the games you picked up last week. Read on for some jokes, some more jokes, and a whole bunch of animals.

Under What?

Let’s start this week with a quick snack to whet your appetite. Under What? Is a bite-sized comedy adventure about an aging fisherman and his antics. To make this even better, the game is both free and takes less than 10 minutes. There’s not a lot of game here, but that’s ok! The jokes largely land, the music is fun, and the art is downright beautiful in a combination that makes this the best way to spend your lunch break.

It’s only 10 minutes, what do you have to lose?

Investi-gator: The Case of the Big Crime

Fans of the blog may remember that I’m fond of detective games. Very fond. Extremely fond. So you can imagine my excitement when Investi-gator: The Case of the Big Crime released to fill my life with animal-themed crimes. This is a fun jaunt through wackily-drawn environments to explore similarly silly characters.

I enjoyed the Investi-gator demo that Gamesbybees put out a few months back and I’m happy to report that The Case of the Big Crime delivers on that promise. Yes there’s a little jank involved here, but there’s so much fun that shines through that it’s hard not to have a good time with this goofy gator.

Skatebird (demo)

Ok here’s the deal: Skatebird is the game we never knew we needed until now. If you miss the extreme sports of the early 2000s but wish your Ps2 copy of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater had more avians in it you need to get in here immediately. It’s also a game that does exactly what it says in the title: you’re a bird who rides a skateboard. You can do tricks, you can see these neat levels built out of household objects, and have an all-around good time.

I’m not really sure what I expected when I saw the game was called Skatebird, but in playing this (sadly) brief demo I found out how badly I needed to play this game. Unfortunately this is just a demo, but it does what any good demo should: it gives me a taste of the full game and makes me excited to follow along with development.
