#Gamification
I've just recently finished researching a project that I'm confident enough to pitch soon. When I set out in my research I wanted to focus on a topic that affects everyone in the world. My first thought was to focus on Climate Change. I've always closely followed Global Warming whether that be on social media sites or the local news, but in order to look further to the issue I need to cover something that wasn't so "baseline".
I'm sure that most people today know about the changing climate and how every year we are setting new record highs for temperatures to the point where it can be unsafe to go outside. Everyone can be recycling all they want but in order to have real impact I dug deeper into more specific statistics that people with common knowledge wouldn't know about.
For example, many people know that the extreme wildfires that have been happening are the cause of Climate Change but it is not just the rate of occurrence that is changing, rather there has been a scale put in place by experts to measure the severity of these fires and at this current pace by 2060 the fires will be over 50% more severe than they already are.
My idea for a game would be to create a strategy/building game similar to a game like "City Skylines" where the player has to manage the world and it's various industries to potentially slow down the effects of climate change to a safe level. To do this the player will have to choose which specific facilities to fund/defund. The hope is that in creating this project, people will be able to see the intricacies of this world issue and take action instead of just recycling every now and then!
