2023 Dev log 1- Pre-Production

The preparation our team did last year is paying off big time. The team is highly organized and efficient. Every member knows what their roles and responsibilities are. Our meetings this semester are short but concise. Overall, I am super happy about the development of this project.

I also feel that our team has successfully avoided the "develop as you design" trap. With the organization and planning we did, we have now solidified our core game loop. This allows us to build on the foundation instead of still searching for the "right way" to build it. Personally, this evasion has allowed me to complete 70% of my tasks within the first week. This seems to keep the morale of the team very high as everyone expresses how confident they are in the current development velocity.

This is our core game loop. Small, simple scope but highly modular

As for the upcoming weeks before playtesting, our team is hyperfocused on maintaining the development process that we have planned in the pre-production, which is to keep iterating our designs. Again, having almost all the technical and "boring" parts of game development done is something to celebrate, at least for us. More than half of our team is now focusing on making a game that is actually good instead of stumbling just to make something

The development process we are following closely. Iteration is key

Lastly, when looking at the measurement of our velocity, we are seeing that almost a quarter of the development is completed already. Our team is super happy about this as everyone shares the same goal of making this game a polished project as best as we can, so we can use it as a portfolio piece before our co-op term this summer. As long as we are maintaining this momentum, the class will be able to experience our complete and highly polished game sooner than later.

Would you look at that! 21% done at the start of the first week!
