My 2022 Overview

Hello!

voscal here! 2022 properly wasn't the best year in terms of, well... everything. but it was a good year for my game development stuff, in this blog post I'm going to section it into 2 different parts. 1. what I made and 2. what I have planned!

(edit i wrote this in january but i've updated some thing!)

what i made

boast hunters

boast hunters was made in 2 days for the mini jam and the original project I had planned differently was not scoped well for 2 days. for context, you play as a ghost hunter who has a bomb for a head!?!? he can't see much when in the dark but all that can be fixed if you light the fuse on your head. my original plan for the jam was to have one level in a haunted house where you follow a ghost and find its past to help capture it and find its weakness, but if you have played the game. you would know that did not accomplish that. I got a test level, basic mechanics, and a platform controller by tarodev implemented. I feel like the idea could have been possible but it was just me working on the art, code and SFX, I do want to expand on the project one day but that isn't until the foreseeable future!

Locked Safe

I don't have this game on my itch profile because it's actually on the google play store! I made this game just to get some experience with publishing to other stores. I also want to publish it on the app store but I don't have a mac book for that :( anyway, the game is a simple hyper casual generic mobile game you would see in those crappy ads when scrolling through your feed in [insert any app with ads here]. I made the game in about one week but I didn't publish it till a week later because I had to verify stuff with google. I did also have other things planned for the app but I lost interest in it due to schoolwork and other things going on in life. the thing I wanted to add but never did was a leader board of the highest scores and achievements!

epik gameing

it's just a jpeg, I made this "game" for the bad game jam where the goal is to make the crappiest game you have ever seen AND what better way to do that is with a stock photo and some text made in ms paint. I made this "game" on a call with some friends while trying to convince them to make games with me!

i also made some music!

I composed for a few different people this year with all of the songs mainly being chiptune. I plan on composing for more people this year but first, I'm gonna spend time on some other projects before I do that. for those who are wondering, I make my music in fl studio 20, why that version you may ask, cause I'm too lazy to update B) but what I used for my chiptune synths where nes vst and the magical 8-bit plugin by ymck. but for my non-chiptune works, I mainly use sound fonts, more specifically the smg sound font and a bunch of SNES sound fonts. I also use shreddage bass and shreddage 1 for my guitar works!

a few games i composed for:

Dice Hero

Escape (first game i ever composed for) ((i made the music for the sewers and the lab))

whats planned?

i have many ideas for games i want to make and im curently working on 2 but i dont wont to spoil what those are :)

if you made it this far i just wana say thanks and tell me if i should do these sorta thing more often
