Hi, congrats on your game! :) It's an interesting game with a cool aesthetic. Regarding the combat, I noticed a 'bug' where you don't have immunity for a certain period of time between enemy attacks. This means you can take three almost instant consecutive hits and die. One way to solve this is to implement a timer in the damage logic, allowing the player to only take damage when the timer is at 0. :)

If you have some spare time, please try out my game. It's a classic space shooter from the 80s but with a personal touch. Please leave your honest feedback. :)

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it and i'm glad you enjoyed the game
Yes in fact i did at the start a "true attack" frames, but i decided to delete it at the end because in fact this doesn't happen when you fight the enemy at the proper distance it made the fight more like a real sword fight where even a sword that is getting back after an attack can damage you, during the test to me it seemed a better way to let the player focus on parry and blocking mechanic instahead of getting the damage and then punish the enemy during the cooldown between attacks.
Much like a real souls like-where some attacks can perpetually damage you if you don't block them or parry them, not giving you "a single hit, for a single attack".

Also yes i will play your game right now!

Loved the music! Great work on these mechanics and animations too.

Very unforgiving! I hope you can live with yourself. The models animated well despite being low poly, that's not easy.

Nice work with the mechanics, models and general ambience.

I thought I was in for some real difficulty but things got easier once I just pulled one enemy at a time. The parry frames are very forgiving, as an old guy I appreciate that. Nice job.

It is even easier once you get confident with the parry and the combo system!
A update is planned and it will have an outdoor zone, NPC with dialogue boxes, A LOT bigger dungeon, a real Boss and other things, it will also have all the proper sounds (and probably a new background music), just need to do the finishing touches (and find some free time from work lol) and i will upload the updated builds.

Nice job especially with creating your own assets. The game was hard but pretty fun!

Nice work, I think the art style is neat. As others have mentioned, I'd love some feedback on hitting the enemy/parrying. Also, I'm not sure it was intentional, but the character slides a bit if you are pressing a directional input while using the charge up attack - the slide happens just as the attack is finishing up. I'm not sure the background music fits the theme, though I think song is nice in general. Overall good work, I can tell you worked hard on it!

Developer

Yes during the charged attack you can "slide" i made this possible to make it a more suitable attack to move a bit and hit more enmies, since the attack is roating it also made sense that you could move a bit (but this is turned off for the light attack because i wanted it to be a more a sword "slice" stationary attack).
Yeah many asked for SoundFX to give some more weight/feedback to the actions in-game, with the next update that will also have an outdoor zone, NPC with dialogue boxes, A LOT bigger dungeon, a real Boss and other things, it will also have all the proper sounds (and probably a new background music), just need to do the finishing touches (and find some free time from work lol) and i will upload the updated builds.

Nice visuals althought I would like some impact when you hit enemies. Also the game is too difficult mosty because each enemy is as strong as the character. Still, nice game :)

If you find the game hard i suggest to try blocking and attack enemies during their cooldown, you will have a nice opening there! Or the best and the fastest way is to hit a parry and go for the combo (Light Attack then Charged Attack)

I can see the difficulty of making such a game. Nice done! I had a bit of a trouble cause there is a weird camera shifting, it keeps rotating towards left for some reason. Overall, the combat works. The animation reaction to the parry is too slow, but it's difficult, I understand

Nice done!

Thanks a lot for your kinds words! I really appreciate it
For the bugs you have encountered i suspect you are playing the game on Firefox, after some testing (with some help of other users here in the comments section) it came out that Firefox has some problems with Unity WebGL2 and WebAssemlby builds, (Some user also encountered some camera problem using the PS5 controller, is this your case?) In any other case there shouldn't be a problem, i can suggest to try the game in it's native version with a PS4/Xbox controller (also the parry timing should be fine so it may be another problem caused by Firefox!)

Submitted(+1)

Yeah playing on firefox, I'll try again later!

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad you will give a second chance to play the game in his best form!

Love how the game looks.
I'm not sure if this is intentional, the attack animations have hurtbox on windup, so sometime the player can get hit before the actual swing, a bit unfair in my opinion. The combat is nice otherwise. Wish there were sounds. Especially attacking, blocking and parry sounds.

Had fun playing the game.

For the hitboxes is strange because they are really small just precise around the player/enemy and swords, the hit system is very basic if the collider of the weapon hits the player/enemy collider damage will be applied (if the animation is playing of course) there is no damage done only when the enemy is doing the animation.

I absolutely love the retro, low poly characters and world. I think it looks absolutely amazing. I did notice an issue with the death and win scenes where the mouse is still hidden and locked so we could not select anything and that was the case in both webgl and unity download. Super cool, I love the mechanics, very simple but very dark souls like so good job!

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

Thanks a lot for your words! I really appreciate it (
The mouse not showing during death and win is volountary, i wanted to player to move through the menus only using his keyboard/gamepad to recreate better the feeling of an old PS1-era game, in fact i forgot to hide it in the start menu and not the vice versa ahahah

Great work on creating your own characters! That's quite an achievement.

Cool to see the combat mechanics implemented. I also made a fight game and wanted to make an alternative attack and block, but didn't have enough time for it.

Secret Tip to owning all the knights easy - hold space bar (block) while attacking - immune while you attack!

Awesome job on creating and finishing a game!

Developer

Thanks a lot for your words! I really appreciate it (also i will play your game when i get a bit of free time, i saw the preview videos it seems amazing!)
You spotted a nice bug there, i (and it seems no one else that did leave a comment here) didn't noticed that holding Block made immune ahahahah it will be fixed in the next release

Ye, these issues can be easy to miss! That's why you have some play testers here.

I recognize the problem with time and wanting to do a lot features!

I had more plans for my project as well. I will probably return at a later time with some extra additions. There's always something more to learn and do.

Gamejams really show that you have to prioritize what you want to do.

Best of luck and have fun on your journey!

Really cool visual style. I think you nailed the look of a Playstation 1 character with the textures and draw distance. Also interesting to have the animation feel more fluid than something from that era. Works in giving it that feeling of a new game character in an old environment.

Developer

Thanks a lot! I'm really happy that you enjoyed the game, and you got exactly what is the "soul" of this game and what i wanted to archive with it!

I think you have a cool idea here! I did find the controls a little had to get the hang of and block/parry timing. I like the armour it reminds me of a rune set from runescape :D

Developer(+1)

I'm really happy that you liked it!
Yeah it's a souls-like after all, it needs a bit of pratice but once you get the right timing for parry you become a power machine!
You are not the first that tells us that our games remind Runescape, it's a big compliment i really enjoyed Runescape back in the days, so thanks a lot!

For the little amount of time I think this has turned out quite well, especially seeing as there are 3d animations. Well done!

Thanks a lot!
I watched your stream when i got back at home as promised!
