So, for those of you who didn't know, Patreon has shut down my page and with it 90% of my income.
"But why?" I hear you ask, through the microphones I've secretly placed in your home. Is it because I violated the law, or engaged in depraved acts beyond all ethical boundaries? Did I push the limits of human decency too far? What vile and disgusting act could I have possibly committed that justifies having my game and my income destroyed?
I put Alice in the game.
Yes, that's it. Alice exists. Patreon's new policy is, and I quote: "We do not allow the presence of underage characters in Adult/18+ content." Which means no Alice, no Lil' Roxy and those kids of yours? Definitely not. The fact that none of them are sexualized in any way is irrelevant. They exist, therefore the game is no longer allowed on Patreon.
So the page is completely done, finished, gone forever?
Well... I've been told that if I wait two months I can remake the game completely and submit it to the Trust and Safety Team for review and possible acceptance as a brand new page and account. But the kids would have to be gone. Erased from the game and the lore completely. Chloe will no longer have a little sister, Lil' Roxy will be unmade, and all your kids will be erased from history. If I want to get back onto Patreon I have to eviscerate CK.
I won't do that. I refuse.
Patreon will keep drawing new lines, keep shifting the goalposts, keep trying to squeeze adult creators off their site until all that's left is a shiny, sterile, puritanical paradise. They don't want me to be a part of that and, frankly, neither do I.
I could try moving everyone over to SubScribestar, but that has traditionally not done well. Is it possible? Sure. Is it likely? Not very.
So what's the solution? A roll of the dice. A gamble.
I'm bringing Corrupted Kingdoms to Steam.
Now, Steam won't allow modded Koikatsu (the engine I'm using for renders) on its storefront, so that means I need to remake all of the graphical assets. This is going to alienate and irritate a lot of people, I know, but I don't see another path here. Without the Patreon income I only have a few months before my resources run out. Some people won't like the new graphical style, some won't ever read this and will think I abandoned the old version for a chance at a bigger profit on Steam, and some people simply don't like Corrupted Kingdoms.
The pitfalls are many. Steam may not allow the game on the store, or it may be review-bombed, or people may simply not buy it, to name just a few.
But I have to do it.
Is it a risk? Absolutely. But it's this or throwing Alice and the kids in the dumpster, and I won't do that. Not for any amount of money. Patreon will never be satisfied. So even if this bankrupts me, I'm finishing this story, and I'm finishing it right.
Certainty of death. Small chance of success. What are we waiting for?

I love GoG and they've been relaxing their stance on adult games recently, but I'm not sure they'd allow CK on their storefront. Still, something to look into! :)
might be a stupid idea, is it possible to make a small "patreon-proof" game so that we can support you while you work on CK and deliver updates ? You release updates like once every three months for this second game, you keep your focus on CK, you know ?

It's possible, but I'm a solo dev so I'd really rather not split my focus if I can possibly avoid it. Still, it's an idea and I shall consider it! :)
My general policy is: make a game I like from here available on Steam and I plan to buy it. So yep yep, if you get it past the Steamsors (Steam censors, get it) then I'm in. No matter what you use for the renders. I'm far more inclined to buy games than use Patreon or Subscribestar or whatever, but that's me.
Well thank you, I appreciate that! I'm still hopeful that enough people will move to SubscribeStar to make any graphical changes unnecessary, but if not then Steam it will have to be!
Do Kids have to bei banned from the entire Game or just from the Version, which is available in Patreon?
Because of it is the latter you could Upload the first act (which doesnt have Kids If I remember correctly) on Patreon to get your income and Upload the full Game on Itch and SubscribeStar.
I dont know If this could work but If it does you dont have to redo the whole graphics.
The entire game, sadly. Patreon will shut you down if anything related to your game anywhere on the internet is against their ToS.

Yes, I would provide alternate ways to get the game for people in countries that ban adult material on Steam. I won't abandon you!

first. im am sad about that patreon decision. Its an Adult game and if you have sex, kids are just normal.; therefore no understanding to patreons decision.
Just for the Moment the Kids have no big Impact on the game, therefore the barn could be "disabled" as if you klick "check on kids" only a message like "the kids are fine" or something like that appears. When the final Version comes out you could "enable" the barn. That could be a way to trick patreon or steam (i would be sad if you switch to steam...im from germany too)
But what happened cannot be changed. So i will follow you here as before and hope that you can find a solution. And i think i speak for everyone here that we will not let you down.

I usually not buy games. But this one would be one i would buy. i havent supported you on patreon due to me knowing their usual antics.
Itch went to sheit, i know they refuse to pay people. Steam is the only one left you may try, but bevare: they can dock the pay and remove everything without giving a reason.

Goddamn, Patreon did it again! I was afraid that this will happen eventually. I was following a game called Futakin Valley here in Itch.io, and they also got the same treatment as yours from Patreon. They have some loli characters in their game, and they got kicked out in less than a week because they insisted that the loli in their game is in fact a kid. Loli and kid are different, damn it! The point is, the kids in yours are not even close by in any sexual activity in the game. They're kawaii, not hot or sexy! There's a clear dividing boundary between the two in the game! Patreon and their absurd excuses!
Also, I honestly don't like the graphical overhaul solution. I am already used a lot to the current graphics and styles. But I certainly don't like dumping the kids either. So, if I can vote, I am gonna choose the Subcribestar way. The dev of the game I mentioned above also forced to move there, because they got nowhere else to go. Not saying that the place is good, just saying it for a bit if reference. But if that doesn't work, then with heavy hearts, I will vote for the removing of the kids, damn it.
So, I hope the greatest of luck for you in finding the replacement for that damned Patreon, 'cause I prefer that nothing in CK are forced to change. I am already engaged with the game too far. I don't want to lose another ero game I liked, not this one.

I agree that SubscribeStar would be the preferable option, and I altered the tier goals on my site to reflect the new situation. If enough people migrate then I can go back to business as usual - with more creative freedom! - but if not then I'll be forced to very seriously consider extremes like Steam and the resulting necessary graphical change (which I don't want to do, but Steam won't allow modded KK assets).

Right-click > Manage > mark as private
But yes, CK will be made available on other storefronts as well, just in case people prefer not to use Steam for any reason.
As a German Fan, I'm kinda fucked.
- SubscribeStar only allows credit cards as payment method (and i don't own one like 80% of Germans).
- Steam entirely blocks erotic content for Germans. Only way for us to buy erotic games is to buy a key outside of Steam (eg. directly from the Creator) and activate it.
Getting a Credit Card only for ero games seems a biiiiit far streched, but if thats the only option left i might as well just get one. Or there would be an option to buy the Steam Key directly from you.
(Or simply just support you here on Itch)
I know the feeling. Another option to go around the German steam issue would be an alt in another country. I learned that you can use a German steam card on any other account, and it'll automatically convert to the roughly same ish amount of currency. I would recommend like Turkey or Ukraine or Britain.

SubscribeStar allows prepaid cards to be used, so perhaps that's a possibility? I've only spent a few weeks in Germany, so I don't know how easy prepaid cards are to get a hold of.

of all my games yours is in the top 3, i love the characters. the story is well written and it would lack i think if you removed the children adds a sort of human feeling to the game. patreon can suck it. im with the others when you find a platform for your work please share it cuz i want to support this game. keep on man.
