Among Us 2

Hi everyone! Time for a big post!

First of all, thanks so much for playing and enjoying Among Us. It's been crazy to see how much more popular Among Us could be than we ever imagined.

Second of all, yes. We're confirming Among Us 2. This post is all about what that means and why we're doing it.

First and Most Important

Among Us 1 servers will stay alive for as long as it has enough players to start games. When we first started, we found that players couldn't really play when the servers had fewer than 30 - 50 players per hour. But lately we have 70,000 - 110,000 per hour. We'd be crazy to shut off the servers on you in 2021! And even if Among Us 2 gets lots of players, we'll just run both at the same time. If Among Us 1 servers shut down, I will open source the code so players can run servers instead.

But why a sequel?

Among Us 1 has been out over two years. It started as a tiny local-multiplayer-only game and has grown and grown and grown. Online multiplayer took 2 months and a total rework to make happen, then 6 months per extra map, and horrible server growing pains along the way. It really was not created to be this big. Because of this, it's extremely hard to add more things without breaking existing things. Frankly, it's terrifying to add in more things because the game is so fragile. Fixing this would require recreating core sections of Among Us, then making sure everything else still works on top. It's actually even harder than just making a new game.

So the first goal of Among Us 2 is to be made to withstand growth. We want to add to it at least as long as Among Us, but with fewer bugs along the way.

What will be in Among Us 2?

Well, first, we plan to basically include Among Us 1 in some capacity. Don't expect us to drag and drop all three maps directly over, but we think it's important to keep the simple play of Among Us with crewmates and impostors. But do expect some new options and balance tweaks. For example, we know very well that 3 impostor needs more than 10 players to be balanced, so 12-15 player games is a goal.

Second, we know that hide and seek is a very popular mode, but it is tough to find or exclude those games. Expect matchmaking to work very differently to better support custom modes and skill levels.

Also, we know that forming groups and making friends is tough. Accounts and friends will be in Among Us 2 straight out of the gate.

Better moderation: We know that hacking, bad behaviour, and toxic language is a problem in Among Us 1 and we definitely don't like it. But we never had the tools to really combat it effectively as a three person team, so expect Among Us 2 to launch with fewer hacks, a report button, moderators, etc.

But we've always known that the thing that would really make Among Us 2 unique from Among Us 1 is more roles. We aren't far enough in the design to confirm any roles or how they will work, but the primary addition for Among Us 2 is more complexity than just Crewmate vs Impostor. This should add a lot more replayability to the game and we're excited to see how we can shake things up for more advanced players.

We have a lot of other things we know players want to see, and a lot of surprises in store as well. So we definitely think Among Us 2 will be worthy sequel. That said, we want to get people playing it quickly, so we will probably start small in Early Access so we can grow Among Us 2 with player feedback. But the above is some of the key bare minimums before we launch at all.

Will it cost extra?

Yes, but.

We know a lot of players just started playing Among Us 1 which makes it look like we're quickly moving to a sequel, so we're going to try carry over some stuff from Among Us 1. We haven't confirmed that we can do any of this yet, but we might:

  • Launch with a discount coupon for Among Us 1 owners on Steam.
  • Keep Among Us 2 Mobile free but with (removable) ads.
  • Have free big content updates like maps and game modes. We're not making that mistake again.
  • Have in-game currency so we can break up big cosmetic bundles and let people buy/earn just the things they want.

When will it come out?

We really do not know at all. We just started planning. There is no art, programming or sound done at all. For the record Among Us took about 6 months to enter open beta (early access) and 6 more months to leave open beta. Among Us 2 will probably take at least as long to enter open beta, and will probably spend longer there.

Unlike Among Us 1, we expect to make Among Us 2 for PC first, then port to mobile. This will let us focus on making a great game faster because updates can come out in minutes on PC, where mobile can take hours or even days.

So basically

We're super hype to start Among Us 2. It'll take a while, but we'll make sure it's worth it. We hope you'll stick around to see what we can do.

Oh, also, we're launching merch on Friday August 21 at 12 PM (Noon, PST). Everything is on pre-order, but there will be shirts and a plush crewmate. The best places to hear when it launches are on Discord and our mailing list, but we'll do our best to get the word out.

It would be really helpfull if we could know how fresh le body is like this but you can actually read it

It sounds interesting, but doesn't sound useful

(+1)

It allows players to know if the impostor was just there or far away a fresh one means the impostor is near a decayed one means the impostor is gone

Here's the one thing that I feel is really really important.

In-game voice chat. On the one hand, it enforces the "do not talk during rounds" rule. It also lets you work on things like "dead players can talk to each other at will" and "imposters can talk to each other during rounds in secret".

I consider this a like, top-tier addition that would make Among Us 2 one of the best hidden role games of all time.

(+3)

They would need to implement voice channels and they can't currently scale the gameplay right now. Given most games that even have voice chat, have everyone just use Discord anyway because you need the matchmaking OUTSIDE the game in the firstplace.

Some kind of plugin for Discord/Teams/Slack would probably be the easiest solution.

Yeah, but there's a lot of people that can play dirty, ruining the game experience

I've thought extensively about Discord, and it doesn't work as far as allowing imposters to talk during the round. It would automate the dead/in-round muting, but that's only a small portion of the dope stuff.

Also, I've implemented live chat in Unity before, it's not really that hard. It's more network intensive but not really hard at all.

En pocas palabras lo que ustedes quieren es Hitman Online®.

Hi, im interested in working for spanish traduction of among us

translation*

(+1)

Sorry is that my primary lenguage is spanish so i think i can help them

It was just a bad redaction.

I think the team already have a translator for spanish

(+2)

It would be amazing to have among us on console.

(+1)

It really would, but chatting would be pretty slow

(+1)

yeah I guess that's true

(-3)

Will the PC version have microtransactions too? If so I'll probably just stick to the first game.

(+5)

It's cosmetics, so it's not a big deal

Ya, if it don't give any advantage it's ok.

DISCLAIMER: The point I am about to mention is purely my opinion. You have the full right to disagree with it.

Hello, devs I heard that you are announcing Among Us 2. As much as I am delighted, I don't really know if it is necessary. Cutting it short, Among Us is already an established game which is popular as well. So, creating new content for an existing, established game would be better than creating a sequel. This argument works even better for Among Us since it is a multiplayer, content-driven game. Thus, I feel no need for a sequel.

But, then it is your property....so you have the right to go according to your plans totally. I just want you to consider this point if you haven't. Thank you.

You have to learn to read.. "It really was not created to be this big. Because of this, it's extremely hard to add more things without breaking existing things. Frankly, it's terrifying to add in more things because the game is so fragile. Fixing this would require recreating core sections of Among Us, then making sure everything else still works on top. It's like explaining to a baby why he needs to wear a diaper... aaand then he shits the ground and still wonders why.

That's right.

among us 2 idea's: Skin Creator

Make your own creative skins! like for example, charles headphones!

i made this idea because im on mobile while playing among us, and i feel like it should have this in the sequel, hope you use it! toodles! :D (also please use both of my ideas, i played all henry stickmin games in the past, i made my own plushies too! So im an big fan of both of these games!)

I do agree much more with this idea rather than the Henry "Episode Maker" idea as this one seems more plausible than the Episode Maker one so I'm full up for this idea

(+1)

This would result in everyone making lewd skins.

uploading moderators maybe?

(+2)

That would require hiring more staff to do non-programming work.

I mean really, there is a self-moderation aspect here, and that's to utilize an external service (eg members to my patreon/discord/twitch followers/subscribers,etc) and as long as you're signed into that service through the game, anyone you play with that is part of that discord server, will get access to those additional skins the discord server has already approved. Much in the same way discord and twitch have their own emoji stuff.

It's probably not super-trivial to do, but it would encourage those playing the same game on the same discord to use their custom skins.

Hey, I already did what you told me so that I no longer get out and it really works for me today I can play but when I get into the security cameras it takes me out

(+1)

Yeah, if that kills the game, you might need to avoid that room, as that room basically quadruples the memory requirements when it loads. I would probably suggest playing the PC version or switching to a more capable mobile phone.

idea for HENRY STICKMIN COLLECTION: Episode Maker

Make your own scenario's in an easy way! it even includes sprites! and your own fail screen creator too!

i hope you use it as is my only idea, i made it because i DONT WANT TO WAIT FOR AN EPISODE 6, i wanna create my own creative story's, toodles! :)

(+1)

This does sound like a good idea but how could it work? for starters yes it could be easy to make fail screens and backgrounds but how would animation and the options work? Will there be a built in animator for Henry to do the actions you want or would it just be recycled from the old episodes and Would the options also be recycled because say if I made it so that Henry had to get past a wall right? and one of the options is the teleporter. let's say I didn't want to use one from a previous game I wanted it to go my own way. How could that work? These are things you need explain and mention for something like a whole "Episode Maker" to even work and function. Second This will also tie into the mention of Episode 6/Henry 7: Puffballs or now Innersloth are done with Henry Stickmin and as much as this could be a cool edition I think Puffballs is happy where he left of Henry Stickmin so the need for an entire Episode Maker would just make Puffballs tired and he probably doesn't want to continue on the series he has just concluded. This also ties in for you mentioning Henry 7 or Episode 6 which will most likely never happen as Episode 5/ Henry 6/ Completing the Mission is intended to be the final entry in the Henry Stickmin Collection (Pun Intended) But I will also not push away the idea of another Henry Stickmin game of cause do I think a 7th game short answer NO but maybe Puffballs could make a possible reboot to the series or a spinoff/side story to the series but of cause I am not puffballs or associated with Innersloth sooo... yeah

Top 2 Most Challenging Parts of Among Us 1.

- VOICE CHAT

- COLORS/NUMBERS

-------------

VOICE CHAT -- we need this desperately.  also, voice-only rooms.  even if you can't afford voice servers, give a line to join a discord URL after the players have confirmed..  Voice-only rooms disables chat function so you're not getting spammed with gamethrowing, and permits players to ban Discord accounts on user-side.

COLORS/NUMBERS -- People still don't understand lime or teal.  Please be creative.  Get a plaid character, a rainbow character, triangles.   Hell, an option to include a number would be ideal on their bodies.  If you go up to 20 characters, it's better to focus on a huge number on their chest and let people purchase colors.

(+2)

I think the solution to the voice chat requires more effort than the devices the game runs on presently permit. Like a PC or Mac version can route and split audio, thus a PC/Mac version can "route" the audio from Discord and mute discord appropriately, or create a virtual microphone inside the game, so the user can pipe the audio through the game and have the game mute the microphone channel to discord while leaving recording/streaming audio up.

Though I could see maybe a plugin to Discord that could mute the mic.

The colors/numbers bit is a different issue and falls into the "this isn't colorblind safe" problem. It would need to be fixed by using colorblind-safe palettes, and if someone is in colorblind mode, it removes those colors from being options.

(+4)

Please consider Chromebook support as well.  Chrome OS supports games like Stardew Valley, and the touchscreen functionality with Chrome + Keyboard would be ideal to get local friends playing together.

(+3)

It works on my Chromebook, but I agree that ChromeOS keyboard support should be a thing.

(+4)

please make among us on MacOs

(+3)

Yes, PLEASE make it playable on MacOS. I do not have a PC, and currently using BlueStacks to run the Android version of it on my Mac.

(+3)

Hello good morning, how do you see my ign is Jaskierzx and I come to propose some ideas for amoung us 2 I hope you like it and support it.

1) In a private or public room already created, the host should have the option to: Change the number of players, Change the number of imposters and change the map. I say this because to do that we must close the room again and try to create it again so that our friends can join (Hopefully)

2) I know what I'm going to say sounds easy, but nevertheless I understand and understand how difficult it must be to create this work. Amoung Us 2 should have at least 10 maps of different shapes, we already know that the theme of the maps is in space, but I have an idea about 4 maps 3 out of context and one that is, to map with theme, of an abandoned Mansion (Like the board game Clue) A cemetery, a neighborhood with a Halloween theme, (in December they can do that same neighborhood theme but with snow) and the pope that if this in context is the Moon, make a map where we are on the moon that has its space stations etc.

3) Add challenges, achievements or rewards, challenges such as getting 5 consecutive victories as a crew member / imposter so it would make it more competitive

4) Make a private chat for the impostors, because it is impossible but it is fun to play without knowing what your partner is going to do for the simple fact that we do not think the same, but probably to put a chat for impostors so that they can agree What to do, makes the crew agree more and think and analyze the game much better.

5) They should create a notice of those people who are dying, a notice that appears in the upper corner of the screen and then disappears again because there are games where 4 crew members die and just when a body is discovered we find out that 3 more died and we were left with the doubt of "where they died" so this would be of great help because that way we would look for the body or we would already have a notice that the impostor has already begun to murder.

I hope you like it, you can take ideas from here I also accept it or if you want to support me with this post, I would be totally grateful, my discord is Jaskierzx_ஶ if you want to contact me anyone

PS: I hope you understand this post, because English is not my main language, but I'm studying it, greetings and have an excellent day in peace.

(+3)

cool ideas, but i think #5 would be kinda unfair, also you need to put your discord tag too, example; <YourName>#<4TagNumbers>

(-2)

I can't play the among us in my iphone 5 device. ☹️ Can u fix this?

(+1)

An IPhone 5 might be too outdated for this game.

but why it is available when I download it? And also they said it is compatible in ios 10.0. My current ios is 10.3.4 why is that?

(-1)

En mi opinión,among US es perfecto,no hay que hacer ningún cambio, el único problema son los servidores y ya

(+1)(-1)
You can incorporate a voice chat in the game to be able to communicate better, my discord gives me lag, that is why I want you to put voice chat and a divided chat between the impostors and the crew I hope you read this and thanks for such a good game

maybe you could add parties so that you can like add friends to the party and invite them and voice chat there

Você pode adicionar um chat apenas para impostores, para que eles possam criar planos e tal
(+1)(-1)

You are going to add fre pets, hats and disguises to among us 2?

by example, items that you can obtain by doing quests?

(1 edit)

read the post, they said they are gonna be adding an in game currency (basically free).

edit, quests also are probably gonna be a thing.

hey how can i change controls of among us to azerty ???

There isn't an option for that

(1 edit) (+2)(-3)

So I watched a group of Twitch streamers play Among Us last night, and I was able to watch 5 of their streams in parallel, and I noticed two weaknesses in this game design:

- A stream-friendly mode needs to exist where

1) Does not display information that people watching can use to cheat

2) Does not display the join code/or optionally only shows it for the host

3) The clues that someone is an impostor are not constantly revealed

A) Don't highlight the names of the impostors, this should be something that only the impostor can see when standing near them, and the game netcode doesn't transmit to players that aren't impostors.

B) When players die, only directly caused deaths should reveal the impostor to the victim. Include other kinds of indirect deaths like sabotage/traps which just show the victim dying.

C) Make the UI for the impostor and the players the same.

- A larger map and a larger player count needs to exist, as the small map with 10 players is a little too easy.

- The tasks are also too easy, a way to "solve" this is to require that players be "assigned" to a command post (eg engineering, medical, security) and only assign those tasks to those players lists, and should the impostor kill all the players of one command post, those tasks only appear for players entering that room, so they have to actually do more thorough searching.  This also solves the problem of "character died in a room and was not discovered"

- Include ways of sabotage that can kill a single player trying to fix it, independent of "kills everyone" sabotage.

edit: Now that I think about it. Include "hide the body" for the impostor, which means they have to kill the player, pick them up, and then go to a vent and hide the body, or throw the body out the airlock/lava/etc when no players are in that room.

Sorry but some of your ideas sound over powered, and some are already in the game

Watch people stream the game and you would see where I'm coming from. People can snipe a stream if the join code is on the screen, or leaked in chat, and basic streaming setups don't crop or cover areas of the screen.
