v1.2 - Out now on Steam, releasing on itch.io April 18th.

Buckshot Roulette v1.2 is out now on Steam, and will be releasing on itch.io April 18th.

The reason for a 2-week delay on itch is that some of the new features are created with Steam tools, and because of this I'm not able to push the update on itch.io immediately. I want to take 2 weeks to make sure that all the early itch.io supporters get a fun and bug-free experience.

Following Steam’s rules and requirements, once the v1.2 update is released on itch.io, the price of the game will be changed from 1.20$ to 2.99$. Because there will be certain features in future updates that rely on Steam tools, there are going to be differences between the itch and Steam versions.

Currently, only the online leaderboard and achievements are features that won't be present in the itch.io v1.2 release as they rely on Steam. So if you have less interest in those features, an itch.io copy might be a better choice, and if you’re planning to grab a copy off itch.io at the original price before the update, now may be a good time.

There will also be a multiplayer mode coming to Steam after the initial release. I cannot share any specific details and dates right now, but rest assured there's enough shells for everyone. If you're interested in trying the multiplayer as soon as it comes out, There's a 10% launch discount on Steam that will last for 7 days.

Keep an eye out for a post-launch announcement outlining future updates and the differences between this release and the Steam one in more detail, so players can have a better idea of which version they prefer. If you already own the game on itch.io, then you will receive all future updates that don't rely on Steam tools for free, including v1.2 on April 18th.

I understand that this might be disappointing to those who purchased the initial release on itch.io and can't access features that are using Steam, but moving forward development will be a lot smoother with the tools that are available on the Steam platform.

Thank you for the continued support.

For me, at least have some benefit for us, early supporters. Exclusive DLC is still fine.

(+14)(-2)

I can stand behind the steam keys for supporters thing honestly. It's sounding less like incentive to get it off of here with multiplayer in the future.

(+16)(-2)

Can you give steam keays for the people who supported you here? :c

(+12)(-2)

I think it would be fair to give all buyers on itch.io a key for the game on Steam, and then delete it and leave the version only for Steam, because I don’t think that anyone will choose itch.io instead of Steam now

(+3)

(+12)(-3)

Hello developers! I have a suggestion:

Maybe you don't need to maintain versions for multiple platforms at the same time. You can create an early supporters exclusive DLC on Steam. Only those who purchased it on itch.io before the Steam version comes out can get the key to this DLC.

And I'm really looking forward to your multiplayer mode.

(+3)(-2)

Surely a solution for the people who want a steam key, they could buy it at a discounted price since they supported the project early on.

(+5)(-3)

This sounds reasonable. I understand why people here would want a steam key for buying the game early (as did I), because it feels like we got "punished" for supporting the game early with no expectations of a steam release.
But on the other hand, it's really not that much money and it's basically a solo dev project. He could have left the itch.io version to rot but he's working on implementing the new (possible) features into this version too.

From what I understand: The itch.io version will get updated with the game's new items, but there will be no steam features such as achievements, leaderboard, and multiplayer. I'm no gamedev but it makes sense that these steam features can't be implemented into the itch.io version.

What I'm saying is: just support the dev he makes cool games. Cut him some slack, don't break his balls over a few bucks.

(+9)(-3)

The "don't break his balls over a few bucks" could also applied the other way around. A free steam key for early supporters (like other devs here do) would gain a lot of respect or a discount would be reasonable but getting nothing for supporting early is just disrepectful. Its also bad long term for him, people are going to think twice about supporting early when he releases new projects.

(+1)

if he gives out keys, lots of them are just gonna get re sold on key sites, and steam puts limits on how many keys devs can give out anyways. also its not typical to expect a key for a different platform when you bought it on itch. itch isn't like kickstarter. when buying a game you almost always only get the game on the platform you bought it for

(+1)

It would make far more sense to just give us keys. Many other Itch devs whose games got ported to steam gave free keys to those who bought it. It’s also a much better move on his part since people will want to support him more if they know that he’s a reasonable guy.

(+2)

"Multiplayer" is music to my ears!

(+12)(-1)

can you give out steam keys to the people who bought it on itch

PLEASE

(+5)

It's a shame there won't be any way to access the steam version ,since I bought this game here when it first came out here, the multiplayer and achievments sounds really cool
(I do understand it's not easy to just give keys to all itch version owner because of the third-party publisher)

(+1)

it’s not difficult, plenty of Itch devs who went to Steam gave out free keys

(+1)(-2)

i both it alredy thanks mike

(1 edit) (+9)(-1)

Guys, the Steam version is published by a third-party publisher, so his contract probably doesn't allow him to easily hand out keys without their say.

Don't ask me why Mike decided not to self-publish; that's his business.

(+6)(-8)

That's why pir*cy was invented.

(+3)(-2)

if you need to pirate over 3 bucks for a solo dev thats a bit sad actually

(+2)(-1)

It's more sad that you are a cuck and cattle and don't get the point.

(-1)

idk man il keep being whatever i want until you can afford a bottle of soda, then you can try again with the insults

(-1)

CUCK LMAOOOO

(+16)

Personally, it's not about the money, its a very small amount and not that big a deal, however its the fact that the people who believed and paid money into the game are now being punished for supporting the project early. The early buyers don't get as much as the late ones? It wouldnt be that hard to send out steam keys and it would show that you care for the people who made the project possible.

i cant get into the steam version because i need the "openGL 3 driver" and put buckshot roulette.exe in there pls help m

I would like to apologize for all these other commenters who think that since they gave you a dollar that entitles them to getting three dollars for free... Don't let these people pressure you into anything, you're being perfectly reasonable. Hope you're doing well, man :>

(+10)(-1)

They are getting it for free though? They're just having to wait an extra 2 weeks before recieving the update on itch.io.

I could understand your comment if Mike was deciding not to update the Itch version and he's claiming that the steam version has more, so that's why its a different price and you're having to pay more. However that isn't the case. He's willing to give people the update worth $3. Yet he's not willing to simply just instead give over a steam key. Which in turn just seems like he's doing it to get people to buy the product twice. In turn essentially punishing early supporters.

The reason it's leaving a bad taste in peoples mouths is because it shows that being an early supporter and supporting the product by buying it early on Itch.io. Means you get nothing in return except a 2 week delayed update and people like you telling them their opinion is unjust despite it being a solid reason to be upset.

It's extremely common for developers to release products early/early access/early alpha for lower prices. To then give the full release for free to people who supported you early on. It's strange why that very normal practice isn't being done here. Maybe there is a solid reason but he could have stated a good reason in his post.

I apologize for your lack of reading comprehension

(1 edit) (+18)

Early supporters deserve the steam key

(+6)

"Never buy unfinished games" - once again.

(+9)(-2)

Are you going to refund people for the wasted few dollars on the itch version? Because I don't see you offering early supporters steam keys despite itch having that capability built in. And surely you aren't actually going to scam us by not doing either thing, right? ... Right?

(+11)(-3)

no steam key and we dont get an update cmon :(

(+13)(-4)

no steam key for early supporters? aight
