v1.2 - Out now on Steam, releasing on itch.io April 18th.

Buckshot Roulette v1.2 is out now on Steam, and will be releasing on itch.io April 18th.

The reason for a 2-week delay on itch is that some of the new features are created with Steam tools, and because of this I'm not able to push the update on itch.io immediately. I want to take 2 weeks to make sure that all the early itch.io supporters get a fun and bug-free experience.

Following Steam’s rules and requirements, once the v1.2 update is released on itch.io, the price of the game will be changed from 1.20$ to 2.99$. Because there will be certain features in future updates that rely on Steam tools, there are going to be differences between the itch and Steam versions.

Currently, only the online leaderboard and achievements are features that won't be present in the itch.io v1.2 release as they rely on Steam. So if you have less interest in those features, an itch.io copy might be a better choice, and if you’re planning to grab a copy off itch.io at the original price before the update, now may be a good time.

There will also be a multiplayer mode coming to Steam after the initial release. I cannot share any specific details and dates right now, but rest assured there's enough shells for everyone. If you're interested in trying the multiplayer as soon as it comes out, There's a 10% launch discount on Steam that will last for 7 days.

Keep an eye out for a post-launch announcement outlining future updates and the differences between this release and the Steam one in more detail, so players can have a better idea of which version they prefer. If you already own the game on itch.io, then you will receive all future updates that don't rely on Steam tools for free, including v1.2 on April 18th.

I understand that this might be disappointing to those who purchased the initial release on itch.io and can't access features that are using Steam, but moving forward development will be a lot smoother with the tools that are available on the Steam platform.

Thank you for the continued support.

Same, agreed

My wallet has been murdered and I am inconsolable and also dying. the only thing that can make this right is if you personally email me the password to the ARG website please 💀

(+14)(-6)

It's not even about the money, really it's more about the message this sends to the people who bought the game early. I regret buying the game on itch now, which should not be a desirable outcome for any developer. It's kind of a gross feeling and I'm not super stoked on giving this developer more money.

(1 edit) (+3)

y’know, now that I think about it, it might Critcial Reflex’s fault (the publisher)

(+12)(-5)

if i'd known a steam version was in the works that would have exclusive features, i would have waited for that. instead, this feels more like a betrayal. before anyone says "it's not much!" i'm disabled and have limited income.

(+2)(-8)

It's 2.99, even if you have a limited income just. Yk. Save for it? Buy it on discount? It's a dollar extra, I paid $4 to donate and I'm on a limited income too right now. Just save for it, games are a luxury expense to begin with and if you cant pay for them to begin with stop spending money on them.

(+1)(-4)

Why did you even buy this game if you have such a limited income? You could have saved that dollar for bread, man. You could have pirated it.

(+2)(-1)

What the actual fuck is your problem, man? Why do you have a stick up your ass about every single person who has a valid complaint about this decision? Who are you to tell people how to spend their income and act high and mighty that they "aren't spending wisely"??

(1 edit) (+1)(-6)

You're doing exactly the same thing. But you think you're right. You're a moron like me.

(+3)(-2)

I will buy steam version soon but first...

"Not anyone rich like you, 'who said not a big deal' comment."

(+15)

$3 is not a big deal however it is unfair for us who payed for it here to get less content than the others. If I knew you would make a steam version I would just hold out and buy that one. If you do not give us steam keys this will set a bad precedent and surely many will be reluctant to buy your games in the future.

(-7)

Assuming you bought the game before the Steam release, youre paying a full dollar less. You get what you pay for. If it weren't for Steam rules I'd like it if they kept the itch.io release cheaper, because equalizing the price but having less features is a cheap move, but otherwise it's fair enough.

You pay a dollar less, you get a dollar less worth of a game. Completely fair.

(4 edits) (+8)(-2)

Yeah, but nobody knew the Steam version would exist when they bought this one. You're blaming the customer for ordering a cheaper sandwich with less meat because a new version of the same sandwich (that was not advertised at all) was gonna release in two months. (And even then, a sandwich is a one-time-use purchase while this game is gonna continually get better on Steam while itch.io gets shafted, so it's no perfect analogy.)

(+1)(-1)

Agreed on this comment

(+3)

"nobody knew the Steam version would exist when they bought this one." and you are completely right! Not even Mike himself knew that his game would blow up and that he would have the chance to get one of his passion projects further than he would have ever imagined! so his cheaper sandwich gets discovered by subway and gets a polished up variant in their stores to buy just because it is that good! Mike saw the opportunity to develop and polish his game further. I would do the exact same thing.

(+1)(-1)

and he just decides to say "fuck you" to the people who got it discovered, I guess? No discount or free sample for you, gotta buy it brand new just like everyone else and pay more money than them.

Wrong, it's not getting shafted, they just said that in this post. It's just not getting multiplayer and the updates will be a bit late for the sake of bug testing and polishing. And as the other guy said, yeah nobody knew not even Mike.

The steam version wasnt even out when most people had bought the game here, and much less didn't expect mike to create features that were locked to steam.

(+1)

I have no issue with their pricing for the reasons you mentioned. For players getting into Buckshot Roulette now it is completely fair. The problem is that we early supporters thought we bought the full game and any subsequent updates to it, only to be asked to buy a new version...

(+12)

Could we get some special things for those who purchased the game at itch.io? Or at least a Steam key perhaps? It would be much appreciated.

(+1)(-1)

Mike said no keys would be given

(1 edit) (+14)(-5)

Am I stupid, or asking for keys for 1.2 usd game is waste of time for players and waste of money for developer?

(+4)(-4)

I'm sorry, we're talking about it being a "waste of money" for the DEV? The players are the ones literally being forced to rebuy the game with no compensation whatsoever.

(+4)(-3)

You're buying a game that costs $1.80 more, which also has 2 to 3 times the features. You're getting a good amount of compensation for your money IMO.

(+1)(-1)

And I wouldn't have bought the original version at all if I had known that more features for the same game would be paywalled.

(1 edit) (+4)(-1)

The only (real) feature being paywalled is multiplayer!

(+1)(-1)

I understand it. I'd like the game I purchased to have the same amount of features as people who buy it later, not less. Multiplayer is a pretty big deal for "the only paywalled feature"!!

(+8)(-3)

I'm a little disappointed in the lack of Steam key or other form of support for early purchasers but nonetheless wish you well in future development on the game!

(1 edit) (+11)(-1)

Throwing my hat into the ring, I have bought Shovel Knight more times than I'd like to admit. That game has a bunch of version exclusive features, people who bought the PC version won't get to play around with stuff like the amiibo custom knight & crossover bosses that the console versions have. Sure, this is a little different since both versions of this game are on PC, but this is kind of why I'm not disappointed with this decision. Not to mention, Shovel knight is a $40 game at this point that offers a lot less between versions, I bought a bottle of Hershey's chocolate syrup at the store today, and it cost more than what I've collectively paid for both versions of this game.

All of that said, I do think the Itch.io version should be outright delisted or covered with disclaimers and links to the steam page once the multiplayer update comes out. That is a big exciting feature that will get people flocking to this game, make sure they don't get the wrong version.

(+1)(-6)

Yay, conflict in the middle of nowhere.

(1 edit) (+6)(-8)

I would understand you if this game cost 10-30+ dollars, but it costs 3 dollars. Are you guys so broke or what? Don't you want to support the developer once again for a good game?

(+4)(-3)

No, we are not BROKE. But this move showed that Mike is Greedy. First of all, people that want to play multiplayer they have to buy game again. Sure its not much from our side(which it is a big commitment in my country because inflation is a bastard), but since this forces us to buy game again it means that Dev gonna make shit ton of money. All Mike had to do was put a announcement post about steam version being in development

(+2)(-1)

even if this game cost $10-30+ on itch, the dev is gonna sell the game again on Steam for the same price and we have to rebuy it again. It is not about the money/price it is about the principles.

Don't tell me that you are willing the rebuy the same AAA game on different platforms everytime (3x 50$ for example).

Without the itch support/funds, the Steam version will probably not exist.

(-1)

I might be missing something, but if he used money to buy his own place in steam, why the fuck does this game have a publisher CR?

(+1)

fortnite did something good, they released a paid version of the game (disc). oh! but wait? why am i paying for a disc version if its free??? dont worry youll get an exclusive skin/picaxe that is only available for the paid versions, that way youll feel special!

(+12)(-4)

Sucks that itch.io supporters won't be getting a key to the steam version, and instead are told that another (almost) $3 is needed to get access to features.

(+1)(-1)

the only version exclusive stuff is multiplayer, leaderboards, and achievements

That’s it

The only (real) thing being locked is multiplayer

Still features being locked from already existing supporters.

I wouldn’t blame them, if they had multiplayer on itch, they would have to host thier own servers, and considering how costly that is and how many people have the game, it make sense

(+11)(-2)

Clone Drone in the Danger Zone gave out Steam keys, why can't you?

como lo canjeo en steam?

no se puede. etamos...pos tristes porque no nos van a dar llaves porque el creador dijo

Are you stupid for free or is somebody paying you?

(1 edit) (+18)(-18)

At first, I thought we should be getting a Steam key for the game but I don't mind spending an extra £2 for a game I spent £1 and have played it a lot. So everyone can stop complaining and cope with not getting a key

(+10)(-9)

facts

(+4)(-5)

Might as well grab it on steam too! silly game

(+8)(-5)

Buyed the steam version also. I want suppport you and i love buckshot roulette.

(+11)(-8)

I Hope you also understand that I will be playing 'Steam version' if needed without paying single cent because of above :-).
