Among Us 2


Hi everyone! Time for a big post!

First of all, thanks so much for playing and enjoying Among Us. It's been crazy to see how much more popular Among Us could be than we ever imagined.

Second of all, yes. We're confirming Among Us 2. This post is all about what that means and why we're doing it.

First and Most Important

Among Us 1 servers will stay alive for as long as it has enough players to start games. When we first started, we found that players couldn't really play when the servers had fewer than 30 - 50 players per hour. But lately we have 70,000 - 110,000 per hour. We'd be crazy to shut off the servers on you in 2021! And even if Among Us 2 gets lots of players, we'll just run both at the same time. If Among Us 1 servers shut down, I will open source the code so players can run servers instead.

But why a sequel?

Among Us 1 has been out over two years. It started as a tiny local-multiplayer-only game and has grown and grown and grown. Online multiplayer took 2 months and a total rework to make happen, then 6 months per extra map, and horrible server growing pains along the way. It really was not created to be this big. Because of this, it's extremely hard to add more things without breaking existing things. Frankly, it's terrifying to add in more things because the game is so fragile. Fixing this would require recreating core sections of Among Us, then making sure everything else still works on top. It's actually even harder than just making a new game.

So the first goal of Among Us 2 is to be made to withstand growth. We want to add to it at least as long as Among Us, but with fewer bugs along the way.

What will be in Among Us 2?

Well, first, we plan to basically include Among Us 1 in some capacity. Don't expect us to drag and drop all three maps directly over, but we think it's important to keep the simple play of Among Us with crewmates and impostors. But do expect some new options and balance tweaks. For example, we know very well that 3 impostor needs more than 10 players to be balanced, so 12-15 player games is a goal.

Second, we know that hide and seek is a very popular mode, but it is tough to find or exclude those games. Expect matchmaking to work very differently to better support custom modes and skill levels.

Also, we know that forming groups and making friends is tough. Accounts and friends will be in Among Us 2 straight out of the gate.

Better moderation: We know that hacking, bad behaviour, and toxic language is a problem in Among Us 1 and we definitely don't like it. But we never had the tools to really combat it effectively as a three person team, so expect Among Us 2 to launch with fewer hacks, a report button, moderators, etc.

But we've always known that the thing that would really make Among Us 2 unique from Among Us 1 is more roles. We aren't far enough in the design to confirm any roles or how they will work, but the primary addition for Among Us 2 is more complexity than just Crewmate vs Impostor. This should add a lot more replayability to the game and we're excited to see how we can shake things up for more advanced players.

We have a lot of other things we know players want to see, and a lot of surprises in store as well. So we definitely think Among Us 2 will be worthy sequel. That said, we want to get people playing it quickly, so we will probably start small in Early Access so we can grow Among Us 2 with player feedback. But the above is some of the key bare minimums before we launch at all.

Will it cost extra?

Yes, but.

We know a lot of players just started playing Among Us 1 which makes it look like we're quickly moving to a sequel, so we're going to try carry over some stuff from Among Us 1. We haven't confirmed that we can do any of this yet, but we might:

  • Launch with a discount coupon for Among Us 1 owners on Steam.
  • Keep Among Us 2 Mobile free but with (removable) ads.
  • Have free big content updates like maps and game modes. We're not making that mistake again.
  • Have in-game currency so we can break up big cosmetic bundles and let people buy/earn just the things they want. 

When will it come out?

We really do not know at all. We just started planning. There is no art, programming or sound done at all. For the record Among Us took about 6 months to enter open beta (early access) and 6 more months to leave open beta. Among Us 2 will probably take at least as long to enter open beta, and will probably spend longer there.

Unlike Among Us 1, we expect to make Among Us 2 for PC first, then port to mobile. This will let us focus on making a great game faster because updates can come out in minutes on PC, where mobile can take hours or even days.

So basically

We're super hype to start Among Us 2. It'll take a while, but we'll make sure it's worth it. We hope you'll stick around to see what we can do.

Oh, also, we're launching merch on Friday August 21 at 12 PM (Noon, PST). Everything is on pre-order, but there will be shirts and a plush crewmate. The best places to hear when it launches are on Discord and our mailing list, but we'll do our best to get the word out.

suggestions for au2 from a long time player 

1. make a voice chat mute it during the game but open it in a meeting that way you can play with random players.

1.1.in the voice chat make so impostors can talk to each other by pushing a different button (it will make it easy to work together ). 

2.make more game mods like hide and seek .

3. make is so you can change maps from within the game so you wont have to leave and rejoin.

4. make more vent like systems that allow the impostor fast travel.

5. make MORE maps, we love the 3 maps but we need way more.

6.get more enemy types, you can make a werewolf that is totally normal but has to change into a wolf to  kill the impostor, or a spy that can change color and name to trick you to kick a player.


this game has so much potential i know this team will make this a good game. much love to the dev team  <3

I agree a button solely for spies and an automatic voichat when meetings

it makes the game unbalance and the developer doesn't have a plan to add voice chat in the game but maps and modes are possible

1. There are some bugs in korean chatting.

We can't type ㅕor ㅠ.

it makes hard to communicate with each other.


2.  The visual  task like summit scan or destroying astronuts makes the game fun, but sometimes it also make imposter lose the game without killing people/savotage. plz add some settings to turn on/off the visual tasks

Ive just started playing among us 1 with friends and its so fun. hopefully the 2nd one would be as great as the first if not better. But as a gamer i do want to add thought to the game, its just what i think it doesnt have to be implement it. But i think it would be great with the new maps theres an option where you can always play random maps and its not always the same one.

thought so as au has one but i really want a good impostor game on console (xbox) and depending on what engine there using it could be "easy"

I am very excited of among us 2 I played from 1 year. I love it as I had  only played skelled map of this game till now. I think untill I will play mira hq and polos among us 2 will be released I am a big fan I will pay for this game if the earlier version will be paid. Can you add some roles like feature in among us 2 it will be fine if it will imposter vs crew mates also.

Okay, I LOVE THE IDEA OF A SEQUEL but would it be available on Mac? I know Macs aren’t really meant for gaming but I have a Windows desktop and a MacBook. I travel sometimes and I like to play games on it when I travel.

Among us 2 sounds great. I wonder how its gonna look like, but let me share my toughts:

1. I think we can all agree that security system is a great part of the game, so if you going to make 15 player games with bigger maps there could be 3 security system. Cameras, Admin and unique one (like doorlog or vitals). One more thing to security system: Make admin as strong as cams. In among us 1 players who want to find sus activities always just siting on cams. Making admin better would give an extra chance to crewmates to make big plays. The admin buff could be that you can see  players color or you can see players not just in rooms. All of that gonna make communication sabotage more powerfull.

2. Sabotages has an important role in among us. You just cant make a sequel without new sabotages. My idea is a  sabotage what affects artificial gravity. When an impostor use this its reduce all players movement speed. They dont start floating just cant run as fast as they can normally. Another idea is a sabotage which close all doors for a few seconds. I know that door closing is already a thing but it isnt too usefull most of the time.

 Thats true, but what I really dont like in security system is that its just depends on one area. Making another security room could split up those people who want use a security system.

The Admin needs to be upgraded since I don't use it often when I play a game. Not even worth sabotaging comms in the first map

As I've been playing Among Us on my phone, I really really hope you guys will be able to make Among Us/Among Us 2 available for Mac users

I'm glad that you seem to be working hard and well. But I have some wishes for better games. 

there's too many people who leaves the game when it doesn't go the way they want, so if it doesn't go against your direction of operation, I think it would be good to put a disadvantage for dropping out.

and plz  let us name the room ourselves.

I hope Among Us 2 will add "Add friend" as well as it would be still a free game at the mobile while also divided by the paid one, i'd love to play both old and new. I can't pay for the game except for downloading it and playing it. Bcs i'm still a student, i can't pay for money *Sorry* but i really love this game! Can't wait for the new one~ And yeah, add more accessories tho for the non-paid please :'3 give paid ones more extras, of course!

Among Us runs very well in wine but please build for linux :P

you got it to work on wine?? I tried to get it running for 30 mins but I couldn’t and eventually just got it on bluestacks, but bluestacks sucks lol. How’d you get it to work?

honestly I just made a new wine bottle and it runs fine. No tweaks at all.

Great news! One suggestion - please, do something with "confirming" quests like medbay scanning or asteroid shooting. It really might destroy a game when you are 100% convinced that some person is a crewmate by simply seeing him doing the quest. As we are playing with friends we have to bring on some artificial rules to avoid that and its kinda disturbing. I'd like to see those animations removed or at least an option to switch them off, or maybe even some option to fake them as an Impostor - that'd be cool too.

I doubt they will get rid of visual tasks, they are meant to be part of the game to tell who is crewmate or not.

Yeah, I know that some players probably enjoy playing with these tasks, especially when playing with randoms, but for me it is very unsatisfying when you are 100% sure that someone is legit. I like the atmosphere of being unsure. I play Among Us with my friends and we think these tasks can really ruin the game for impostors and make a win unsatisfying for crewmates. I like when you have to make an effort to confirm the crewmate and not just stand near the medbay and I hate when I am trying to decieve others as an impostor and it turns out that I am the only one possible impostor because the rest of people are legit checked.

I don't expect visual tasks to be removed, but I would be more than happy to see an option to switch these animations off for people like me.

This is great! I can find my buddies who I played with. MZOP will be revived! 

I hope there's ways to join a game of a friend even if the game is on going. Like an inspector mode. 

Friend lists are nice too, so you could just join your friend easily without no codes. Of course there should be an opt for the host for friend invites.
