If the new version comes out, do i have to delete the old version of the game and download the new version or do i just download the newer version when it comes out? I'm rather new to this type of game and I can't wait for the next one!
If you play on PC, you can delete it, if you want. After you download the new version, your old saves will still be there! (Windows stores the saves in a different location)
Just throw this out there, since this is a game about a game, you could keep doing expansions on the original game just like normal games. New expansion for Eternum in the game, a new chapter of this game with totally new plots and some new characters each time, but you still get to continue the MC's story and have fun with the original characters. The world for this one really would fit that model well, given it's about a game with all sorts of sub-worlds. Do a Cyberpunk story for one, then the next expansion could be about ancient Egypt and Maat could get involved. All sorts of possibilities are opened by the game sub-worlds of Eternum, and we get to keep interacting with the characters we grow fond of and get to grow our "family" over time. I'd be super down with that type of thing. "Eternum: The Wrath of Maat" or something, heehee
I wouldn't want a DLC-ish expansion that felt like all it added was more sex scenes that didn't fit the characters in them. Like for example, if Luna only has solo romance scenes the whole game. I wouldn't buy an expansion just to dump her into a 3some randomly with Penelope. Or have an expansion where she is OOC and sudden acting like Nancy or Alex just for a "what if" story. No alternate universes either.
keep in mind that these kinda games really are more ''stories" than games, and as such, all stories need a good ending.. thats where a lot of devs go wrong, trying to milk every patreon supporter forever, never finishing the game, then they die or give up or somesuch (eg: Harem Hotel, which was luckily saved by a new dev who got hold of the source code) and the game remains unfinished .. a lot of games have gone that way, and you can feel it when playing, the repeated plotlines and re-hashed scenes make the games feel stale. some prime examples being My New Family and Dark Magic. those games become unbearable after a certain point, reading the same old lines 'day after day', the same tropes scene by scene (unless you have a particular type of unsavory "too young" fetish, which is probably why those games still have a small but loyal fanbase). the best thing Carbidis did with OIAL was the well-rounded ending, that finished exactly where the story should finish, didnt drag it out, and made a masterpiece in the process. even though we miss the characters, and was sad to see the story end, it just 'felt right when it did end. it felt wholesome.
I feel like after a while devs of these indie games see that that get 800$ a month and just decide to keep the game going, never really ending them, only constantly making more sex scenes just to lure lonely dickheads. ONce I s see a plot is headed that way and they're making the cast do stupid stuff that makes no scenes, it just becomes mindless porn and I'm not into that anymore since I turned 30. I like things being hot but I want plot.
when I finished OiAL I used a guide to make sure I didn't mess up anymore romances and kept Stabbs alive. No way I was gonna drop the ball at the last second. Hands down a very satisfying ending despite my mistakes earlier on. I swear, "don't look at a girl change and the game assumes you hate her. Don't want a teacher to divorce her husband? Too bad, you should has known he was evil." But I still don't wanna play the game all over because I have a ton of VNs I'm trying to run thru before my JRPGs come out. So maybe when I'm done with everything I'll do Eternum and OIAL over and try a perfect run.
I agree, but in this case I have faith in the dev's abilities and such. OIAL was awesome, and this one has been as well. I'm not saying to just keep going on when there's really no more story. Just pointing out that this particular setting works well for new stories with the same characters. I like new characters too, but it's nice to have a familiar group of characters you're comfortable interacting with as well. People start get attached to their favorite characters, and want to see more stories with them. This is why TV (and book series) is so popular, and why people binge watch series. That is one of my gripes about these stories end generally, they're all one-off's. I'd really like to see a series of a game where you'd have a lot of the same characters through multiple different stories. :) That's my two cents!
as far as i understand it, Runey is the new developer. he's had control for quite awhile, and i might well be wrong, but i remember reading a thread about how the game got abandoned by the original dev and someone else (runey) had gotten permission to take over and had the assets handed over to him

I would love the chance to bond and romance the heroines while avoiding some sex acts. Some of which are serious turns off for me. I feel like I've wasted my life sometimes playing games like this. In Eternum things play out so great. Heartwarming scenes. Romance. Battles. But despite my best efforts my life has always been shit. Poverty and loveless. All I can say is that I worked hard to keep my parents out of an Old Folk Home and they know I love them. But I've never been good at being social. I never like drinking and parties and taking chances at a "live fast, die young" lifestyle. Now at 36, soon to be 37, I know my times is running out. And (un)like Nancy and the mother from OIAL, there's nothing I can do to feel young or revived again. Even other JRPGs and my job don't feel fulfilling. I just don't know what I can do to make my life feel like it was one worth living. I'm even trying to work out again so women will take notice of me. But they still never do. And I doubt I'll be writing novels or comics to pay the bills, so I'm stuck sticking with my warehouse job.
I've never been suave or cool. I'm just hardworking and dedicated and a man of my word. Integrity. But that means nothing to most people where I live. Or if it does it won't make women like me or men respect me. I'm just a plain joe in a crowd that is slightly overweight. But one thing I can promise is I will keep fighting to my deathbed for the hope that my life will at least end in a happier way. Maybe one day a women will love me and I will actually draw a piece of art that gets famous. I'll hold on to that and not give up.

Due to a lot of bad experiences as a kid and teen, I basically gave up on romance and my career dreams because I was always too poor or unpopular or unattractive to get them done. You can't make people hire you and you can't make people like you. If you find the girl of your dreams and you want to get to know her, she may be disgusted by you. Want that job as a cartoonist? Too bad no one wants to train you to be the best or ever hire you for storyboards. I keep fighting, hoping things get better but they don't.
I play lots of games but sometimes all they do is depress me because I can't make my life any better. So games like Eternum are bittersweet to me. I like them but they always make me uncomfortable with all the scenes I know will never happen to me. It's hard trying to cope with being no one in society that is desired.

until then, games like this, while bittersweet, can at least keep you triggering those hormones, so you dont end up androgenous. these kinda games are the closest thing to a proper sexbot, theyre like intellectual porn.. well, games of the calibre of carbidis' work is anyways.

This game has no right to be this endearing, and I hate that I love the story so much. I did not expect to enjoy the game this much. The Character development is true to life and the protagonist doesn't feel like the worst human alive, he feels genuine and I almost feel bad for picking the "horny" options when playing this. I am hooked
love the game so far but I find it difficult trying to find out what I did wrong when I cant continue one of the girl's story line, also some of the horror scenes caught me off guard, instead of being hard and enjoying a good laugh I nearly piss my self when the girl in black gives me a vision. Just hit the part where they say character level means nothing for your stats. All that matters is how much you exercise. Level just determines better gear you get to have. So is Thanatos cheating? No way IRL he's so in shape and so skilled with martial arts he can beat every other player in the game. How did he get that way without hacking his character? There's no tales of him losing? Ever? I call BS. I bet Thanatos is William Bardot using money to get his way and have powerful character in Eternum. All so he can be the sole owner and new founder of Eternum. And maybe the Eternum founder is Orion's father. And he made the game super unfair so it would be up to Orion to make it more fun and fair, and less like a horny wet dream for trolls and griefers.
I don't think Thanatos cheats, he has to have an overpowered piece of gear with a skill like "if incoming damage surpasses your remaining Hit Points, your HP is halved instead." Eventually his HP will be 1 (say, when he's shot in the neck), and then any incoming damage will never bring him fully to zero - just like Zeno's paradox on distance.
As for his identitity, my bet is that he's actually Luna's father: 1) You having the gem of doom was a secret almost no one knew about, yet Thanatos comes for you. Luna saw you get it - she even told you to hold on to it. 2) Luna first gives out the chip as a contest price because her father doesn't want it, yet when you go over to her home to play, she lends you a spare suit she has. Why does she have a spare? It's her father's - Luna knows who he is, and helps him. 3) Why do I say this? Think of the ambush Daliah invited you to be part of: Jeremy was killed by an ogre who appeared out of nowhere. Luna is a summoner. She summoned that ogre to help Thanatos, his father, get that gem of doom. 4) Now, motivation. What could drive a man to such extremes? Mr Hernandez said it: "I promised my wife I would do anything I could to care for Luna", or something along those lines. If he collects the gems, he becomes the CEO of Ulysses and can grant her anything. 5) Circling back to your point on skills: I don't think Thanatos is that skilled, but that he put in a lot of work via theatrics and what not (leaving those arrows sticking on his back) to build up this reputation, so when people see him their fear of him makes him lose. He even lets you and Daliah go so you spread tales about him. This is a game, it's all about pretending to be something you are not. Nova tells you she's got a reputation to keep, Jeremy gives his introduction a lot of importance, etc... Thanathos does the same, and that intimidation factor gives him an edge, a boost. Luna deceives you on 3 of the first 4 times you meet her ("you're dead", "I had a sister", "the voices..."), the last time her father is even in on it with practical effects to sell it. Extra point 1) Luna asks not to try the divination on her - maybe because you'd see a memory of her and Thanatos? Extra point 2) Thanatos eyes are red, like Luna's.
I guess it's just a matter of finding a trick to beat him. Whoever he is, he is def messing around around with tons super top tier gear and his level must be max'd to use it all.
As ruthless and selfish as he is, I don't see him as Luna's papa. It has to be Alex's father or bother using mods and hacks.
If Luna gave you her father's old suit to play the game, he would have to buy ANOTHER one. He can't do that easily. They cost a lot.
Yes the CEO spot would ensure Luna is set for life. But so would just getting her a great job somewhere. That's a huge leap. Playing a game and winning a contest, just to make sure your daughter is set for life. Especially when the contest has not been won in years.
Rep or no, skill is skill. No one would lose to him if all he had to smoke and mirrors making him seem scary. Especially Calypso. And What about his lines where he talks like a psycho about how great it is that might makes right in Eternum? That's not an act, he was being a sadist and Calypso threw the words back at him. Luna's pop aint that guy. He makes morbid jokes but not thrives on inflicting pain.
You can't change you appearance in Eternum. Only change clothes. So if thanatos has red eyes, is her father wearing contacts all the time? IDK about that.

Man, your games are good. Can I ask what software you use to make the character models? I've seen similar games use Koikatsu but these models look too polished to have been made in Koikatsu. You don't have to answer if you don't want to, ofc, just curious.
I feel like I should pay an extra $5 every time Chang and Nova make me laugh. Great writing. How insane it gets anytime they both are on screen. EDIT Just saw the phone group chat scene! Perfect. Glorious. It basically fleshed out every character in quick succession.
I got a lot to say. I comment as I play the game. Usually it's dead around here, and no one says anything except gushing about how great the game is. But I have lore questions most of the time. Or life questions that come to me as I read the plot. Better to ask the fans and the creator than keep all my questions and musings to myself and never get answer.
It's all good, I'm all caught up now. The game is great. And while I missed the chance to see 100% of the game, and not onboard with all the roads the ladies seemed to be headed down kink wise, I'm just in love with the comedy and world building.

I'm not sure how it works in this game so Ill go by the romance of OIAL. Unfortunately it seems that the writers believe as you level up romances that people want crazier and raunchier scenes. So it starts with innocent stuff and snowballs to 3somes and crazy rough sex. It's like that in VIRTUES and Nothing is Forever too. It got so bad in VIRTUES that I quit the game. As I'm not into hurting and insulting women. And the writer of the game never warned anyone that ALL the romances in the game end up like that. In OIAL it culminated more with a harem ending. All the girls love the MC and they are all one day just bisexual and okay with kissing each other and making sure the MC is pleased. Likely this game will be the same. Nothing offensive, just much more complex kinky stuff. I would be more than happy with just regular vanilla romances and some cowgirl and sweet pillow talk. But they likely need to appeal to the rest of the people who often want things to end up as kinky as possible.

I don't really need too many kinky scenes with Luna personally. I like her as she is too. Sometimes more kink doesn't fit the character. I'd never hypersexualize most characters from FMA for example.
I like the idea of sex, but I want scenes to fit the character. If they're not wild, the scene should fit who they are. Romantic or more reserved. Even in a harem game, the women should be different. I don't just want every girl to be just a sex slave.

Anyone can lose a fight in the game. Even the authority figures. So Praetorans and moderators or admins wouldn't be able to stop him. What if he was an executive who help make and run Eternum? Who deletes his account? The more I find out about Eternum the more it doesn't make any sense for a person to play it within the game's story.
I get the "you could die from smoking" but they say. But does that matter when you know you feel the pain of death if your shot in the chest or stab in your privates? Is that worth it?
I feel sorry for the guy who saves up the 2500 to get the game and then is trolled and humiliated nonstop everytime he logs on. Something that happens to me often in MMOs if I ask questions about lore. That guy gets no refunds and is tortured for the rest of his life. All it takes is someone to get OP like Thanatos and just kill anyone who tries to stop him. Might makes right. Why make the game that way?
If I was in this story I think the first thing I'd do is hire someone to develop a body suit and helmet that connected to the game without the needle in you neck. Having the pain feel real, even when it's a critical hit, like a stab in the eye or chest is a deal breaker. No way a kid or even most teens could handle that. The mental and emotional scarring alone would be insane. People would be a wreck after that. You'd have a slight advantage of not feeling pain as others do but playing the game with a suit that didn't mimic real pain. And it would still require skill and practice.
It would be enough for me to simply play the game with a suit that vibrated or warmed up in spots on my body to let me know I was interacting with the game. Like a vibration to show you were hot in the back of warning the hand to show you picked up a warm mug. And worse since some server have illegal content like rape and murder of kids, being trapped in one of those with no exit, you might not even escape fast enough to tell the authorities. In a way, a person could trap you in the game and torture you without doing critical damage until you begged them to stop and promised not to tell on them. There's already been cases where the cops of the game didn't show up to save people in need of help right away. Even tho the game is designed to protect people against being abused and trolled by being murdered and raped or tortured.
I Just think a real sicko must be behind the game if they can be a founder of a game that doesn't stop people from being able to go too far automatically. Like if a person is breaking a rule, instead of Praetorans coming, that person is forcefully logged out of the game and unable to ever log on again. Ever. That would stop child porn server and rapists for sure.
I love the comedy and the cast personalities. And the game looks great. But I just can't get into the idea that so much of this game, made by a multi-million dollar company is shady as hell. If you think about it for even a second it doesn't add up unless the live in a bleak dark future where the government and common man gives no F**KS.
If you were a parent and you 17 yr old logged off a game and cried in your arms that a crazy lady held her at gun point and told her to suck a guy off. Wouldn't you stop and NOTHING to find out what the company let that happen? What if you got in the game and you're 33 and a bunch of 19 yr old women tell you they're gonna help you level up bc you're new. But they just lure you to an OP player who humiliates you on your first day and tortured you and then kills you. Would you just log off and say "oh well guess this game was money well spent. Best $2500 I've ever spent."
My theory is that besides social commentary that the writer of the game is trying to mimic unfair crap in dark souls paired with trolling on the net and apathetic admins and mods. But it still doesn't add up that this game would make crazy money and not have long line of scarred for life players losing their mind for being stabbed in the chest everytime they log on. One guy gets his head smashed. Did he feel that? Wouldn't that crush his will to play the game?
I played Once In A Lifetime a month or so ago and thought it was alright. While the story was kinda meh in my opinion, and I didn't like how two girls basically had the same face, I do like the quirky sense of humor with the meta jokes here and there. Also, impreg is kinda my biggest fetish so its a plus.
Eternum is basically a huge leap forward. I actually find the story very intriguing and the setting is also pretty cool. A mix of Sword Art Online with Ready Player One. The character models are great and the h-scenes are solid as well. The MC still looks kinda weird but I'd say he looks much better. And despite all that, the sense of humor from Once In A Lifetime still persists.
This is my favorite visual novel so far. Both the plot and the art are impeccable. Its story is very attractive, and its characterization is also very successful. Each character is very vivid. I really fell in love with those girls~

Quite simply one of the best AVNs ever made. Cannot think of a real criticism. The animations are unbelievable for RenPy and the genre as a whole, looks amazing. The polish in general is just so good. Even the fact that its essentially a game about romantic LARPing but doesnt feel cringe or out of touch in the least. Dude definitely earned all 3500 of his patrons, cut his teeth on one of the best AVNs ever and stepped up his game twofold for this one.
It's the comedy that's the best sell for the game. And the improved models over the course of the games he's made. The first one had good ones but this one had way better. And in terms of comedy it's meta without fully breaking 4th wall. For example, a running theme in erotic games is that women will obsess over huge penises and freeze in their tracks. This happens a lot in this and his earlier game. And tons more. Since that's a huge gimmick, they even turned it into a joke in this game. When there's a serious moment where everyone needs to focus and do their job, the one monkey wrench in the plan is a girl ignoring all life threatening events because a huge penis is near her. Satire like that touches on two level. A jab at ero VNs in general, and a jab at the running gag in Caribdis' games. Plus it is even more of a heckle of spaz characters like "manick pixie dream girls" who can sometimes be too quirky for their own good.
Some of the these server idea and all the rule changing that comes from it seems a lot like Kingdom Hearts. Especially when they change how you look or what weapons you're ALLOWED to use.
So far it's a super intriguing game, not because of the mature content, but because of the context of the story.
The character designs and graphics are also fantastic. Though I have to ask, did Dalia's facial features change? According to me, the change began after the adventure with Nova in the temple of Maat, specifically in the part where they talk about the water butterflies. Then I noticed more the change in the scenes where they meet on the Rome server, and I became even more convinced that something changed in Dalia, in the last scenes of the game, when they meet in a house to study the robbery plan. . . . . .
In my personal opinion, I really liked Dalia's design at the beginning of the game, for example when we are introduced to Dalia and Penelope, in the school scenes and in the pool scenes when we are introduced to Alex.
For me, the initial Dalia design was my favorite.

It broke my heart seeing a character named after a goddess of truth and justice playing a villain who's only motivation was sex, violence, and stealing. And she is just one of 3 brown characters with no redeeming qualities. Like Ben and Willaim Bardot. I was hoping she was romance option but not just a cruel femme fatale.

If someone logs into Eternum, even tho it's an MMO, you can't see names or stats? How do you know if an enemy is too strong for you. At one point in the game a character said they had a fake name in the game. How? And when would someone see it? When they scanned her or selected her in the game as she walked around?
If a person dies in the game, can they remake their stats and go walk up to their own dead body? EDIT Ogygia is best arc so far. I just found out that's a ref to Odyssey. I thought is was an a server when there was a never ending orgy.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what the MC is trying to do with his character build. Why doesn't he focus and play a RPG class? Why can't you bring whatever gear you want to whatever server you want. If you get great gear in Red Herring, are you not allowed to have it in another server? That's nonsense.
I don't understand how exp is given to him. And I saw a fight scene but who know what was gained from it. Maybe the idea is to just pick one server and always stay there and become a OP badass there and only there. THe MC Orion never seems to get better at fighting or magic or anything. He kinda just talks to people and because he's simply there, quests progress and get solved. But who knows what his level is.

I wonder if it would be crazy, to just log into the Eternum game and just hang out with Idriel? Would she be fed up with that? But I guess it would only okay to do that after you've seen so much of Eternum that you'd have something great to talk about for hours.
Holy shit... what if it's a time loop. Some small things change but it's all cylindrical. Here's another theory: The MC, Orion, made Eternum but Eternum is about a VR of him eventually coming up with the skill and inspiration of wanting to make it in the first place. The women in his life inspired The Eternum Lady and Preatoran and Chang inspire Chop-Chop. And now, having alienated himself from all his friends IRL, he is playing Eternum to try and see the memories of their lives before he became the Founder. The game shows the past, mimicking the early days of them playing MMOs together.
I'm starting to wonder if what makes Eternum so popular is a drug-like euphoria gained from playing it. Like in the code. People often say they can't take their mind off it. And realistically how would a game take over an economy without something else at play? I guarantee you that Eternum is just another cult and like all successful cults, it subtly brainwashes the people to think they can't live without it. Remember how WOW had people quitting their jobs just to play it, even tho doing so would mean having no money to pay for it?

That's my theory. There's no way the main character can trigger important events just from starting the game. As if quests and mysteries were all on hold until he got there. The hints are all there. "That never happened before. I never saw her before." Why would NPCs suddenly step forward and give more hints on a quest that was never solved before then? But now it suddenly has more clues when the MC shows up? It's like they said in Disgaea 2, "maybe the only reason you weren't turned into a monster is because you're the main character."
The main character is playing an offline game. All the girls in it that he loves are just NPCs. "They remember you. It's hard to tell who's a player and an NPC." And quests activate and progress when he's around because he's a player and the ONLY player. "(voice like All-Might) You can move on in a quest, BECAUSE I AM HERE!" He just forgot that he wipes his memory, and that he is playing a game when he starts (which he did for immersion, like in that Dragon Quest animated movie). " Hey, bored with playing games and always winning? You want full immersion and you're the founder or veteran player of a game? Memory wipe and play with no weapons and and only your allies are OK at the game, but no one is OP."

At the end of the game I bet the MC is alone and forced to accept that he got so into immersion of Eternum that he fell in love, not just with the game, but the NPC love interests he made in it as well. And so he deletes the game and decides to go have real relationships again.
I remember secret ending in "Once in a Lifetime". Well... This world is just another server from Eternum. And MC from Eternum played as MC from OIAL, but he didn't know it until he left the game. So, your words may be true. But I wanna think that both games (Eternum & OIAL) are not just random servers from "Eternum". I prefer to think that both games exist in the same world. Otherwise we wouldn't have seen mentions of Stabby Mike in the Eternum.
What secret ending? I messed up the romance story line of the teach and Judie, so maybe I didn't get the perfect ending. I was being too nice and the game assumed I didn't want to date them. By the time I saw I was locked out, it was too late. And I only had one save file.
If the MC of OIAL is the same as Eternum's, I can buy that secret ending idea that both games are just servers in the same giant MMO. But I still think OIAL happened. The book didn't help the cult take over. And the cult is reffed (referenced) in the game, Eternum (with a newpaper and some dialogue). I think Eternum is just another cult's way of taking over since witchcraft and cloak and dagger stuff didnt' work.
President Stabb is I think still president, but I only here about him when the MC is at school or around town. But I wouldn't be surprised if he is play Eternum. In this game Chang and Chop-Chop seem to be the "Stabby Mike" character. So i'm doubting Stabby shows up.
I think both games exists too. But I think OIAL ends where Eternum begins and Eternum is a lingering problem from the time in OIAL. Something the MC didn't notice that was allowed to thrive.
You have to fail at trying to have an affair with someone. Then at the end of the game, the MC from Eternum will shut down the game and talk to Dalia, who will laugh at the fact that the MC didn't have any girlfriends even in the game.
Wow. So if you go thru the who game and never have sex or a romance you get a huge meta teaser for the next game... Does that mean OIAL is the game Orion made when he was 14?

If you play on PC, you can delete it, if you want. After you download the new version, your old saves will still be there! (Windows stores the saves in a different location)

Just throw this out there, since this is a game about a game, you could keep doing expansions on the original game just like normal games. New expansion for Eternum in the game, a new chapter of this game with totally new plots and some new characters each time, but you still get to continue the MC's story and have fun with the original characters. The world for this one really would fit that model well, given it's about a game with all sorts of sub-worlds. Do a Cyberpunk story for one, then the next expansion could be about ancient Egypt and Maat could get involved. All sorts of possibilities are opened by the game sub-worlds of Eternum, and we get to keep interacting with the characters we grow fond of and get to grow our "family" over time. I'd be super down with that type of thing. "Eternum: The Wrath of Maat" or something, heehee

I wouldn't want a DLC-ish expansion that felt like all it added was more sex scenes that didn't fit the characters in them. Like for example, if Luna only has solo romance scenes the whole game. I wouldn't buy an expansion just to dump her into a 3some randomly with Penelope. Or have an expansion where she is OOC and sudden acting like Nancy or Alex just for a "what if" story. No alternate universes either.
The possibilities are certainly endless!
keep in mind that these kinda games really are more ''stories" than games, and as such, all stories need a good ending..
thats where a lot of devs go wrong, trying to milk every patreon supporter forever, never finishing the game, then they die or give up or somesuch (eg: Harem Hotel, which was luckily saved by a new dev who got hold of the source code) and the game remains unfinished .. a lot of games have gone that way, and you can feel it when playing, the repeated plotlines and re-hashed scenes make the games feel stale.
some prime examples being My New Family and Dark Magic. those games become unbearable after a certain point, reading the same old lines 'day after day', the same tropes scene by scene (unless you have a particular type of unsavory "too young" fetish, which is probably why those games still have a small but loyal fanbase).
the best thing Carbidis did with OIAL was the well-rounded ending, that finished exactly where the story should finish, didnt drag it out, and made a masterpiece in the process. even though we miss the characters, and was sad to see the story end, it just 'felt right when it did end. it felt wholesome.
I feel like after a while devs of these indie games see that that get 800$ a month and just decide to keep the game going, never really ending them, only constantly making more sex scenes just to lure lonely dickheads. ONce I s see a plot is headed that way and they're making the cast do stupid stuff that makes no scenes, it just becomes mindless porn and I'm not into that anymore since I turned 30. I like things being hot but I want plot.
when I finished OiAL I used a guide to make sure I didn't mess up anymore romances and kept Stabbs alive. No way I was gonna drop the ball at the last second. Hands down a very satisfying ending despite my mistakes earlier on. I swear, "don't look at a girl change and the game assumes you hate her. Don't want a teacher to divorce her husband? Too bad, you should has known he was evil." But I still don't wanna play the game all over because I have a ton of VNs I'm trying to run thru before my JRPGs come out. So maybe when I'm done with everything I'll do Eternum and OIAL over and try a perfect run.
I agree, but in this case I have faith in the dev's abilities and such. OIAL was awesome, and this one has been as well. I'm not saying to just keep going on when there's really no more story. Just pointing out that this particular setting works well for new stories with the same characters. I like new characters too, but it's nice to have a familiar group of characters you're comfortable interacting with as well. People start get attached to their favorite characters, and want to see more stories with them. This is why TV (and book series) is so popular, and why people binge watch series. That is one of my gripes about these stories end generally, they're all one-off's. I'd really like to see a series of a game where you'd have a lot of the same characters through multiple different stories. :) That's my two cents!

as far as i understand it, Runey is the new developer. he's had control for quite awhile, and i might well be wrong, but i remember reading a thread about how the game got abandoned by the original dev and someone else (runey) had gotten permission to take over and had the assets handed over to him

I would love the chance to bond and romance the heroines while avoiding some sex acts. Some of which are serious turns off for me. You can't, browser versions are broken and unofficial, unfortunately saves can't be transferred as far as I know
Have you ever got bummed playing a game? Like things were so great in it, it made you question your own life?
I feel like I've wasted my life sometimes playing games like this. In Eternum things play out so great. Heartwarming scenes. Romance. Battles. But despite my best efforts my life has always been shit. Poverty and loveless. All I can say is that I worked hard to keep my parents out of an Old Folk Home and they know I love them. But I've never been good at being social. I never like drinking and parties and taking chances at a "live fast, die young" lifestyle. Now at 36, soon to be 37, I know my times is running out. And (un)like Nancy and the mother from OIAL, there's nothing I can do to feel young or revived again. Even other JRPGs and my job don't feel fulfilling. I just don't know what I can do to make my life feel like it was one worth living. I'm even trying to work out again so women will take notice of me. But they still never do. And I doubt I'll be writing novels or comics to pay the bills, so I'm stuck sticking with my warehouse job.
I've never been suave or cool. I'm just hardworking and dedicated and a man of my word. Integrity. But that means nothing to most people where I live. Or if it does it won't make women like me or men respect me. I'm just a plain joe in a crowd that is slightly overweight. But one thing I can promise is I will keep fighting to my deathbed for the hope that my life will at least end in a happier way. Maybe one day a women will love me and I will actually draw a piece of art that gets famous. I'll hold on to that and not give up.
And I suggest anyone who might be depressed like me, not give up either. It's not over until you're dead. I hope everyone gets love and respect in their lives. AND with that, I'm all caught up on Eternum and awaiting the next big update.

Due to a lot of bad experiences as a kid and teen, I basically gave up on romance and my career dreams because I was always too poor or unpopular or unattractive to get them done. You can't make people hire you and you can't make people like you. If you find the girl of your dreams and you want to get to know her, she may be disgusted by you. Want that job as a cartoonist? Too bad no one wants to train you to be the best or ever hire you for storyboards. I keep fighting, hoping things get better but they don't.
I play lots of games but sometimes all they do is depress me because I can't make my life any better. So games like Eternum are bittersweet to me. I like them but they always make me uncomfortable with all the scenes I know will never happen to me. It's hard trying to cope with being no one in society that is desired.
People are creating their own careers , being their own boss, everyday online. Also i promise you, beating yourself up is the best way to never ever have the life that you want. Girls like confidence. Also try dating online. It's infinitely easier. Especially for introverts.

the kinda girl a normal guy wants to meet, is not on online dating (well, maybe one in a million, but they dont stay long, cos the guys are just as bad as the girls at online dating sites/apps). you'd be far better off, as a random example, going to a chess club, if you are into chess, and want a girl that is into chess, or a sports club, if you want a girl that is into sports, etc. you might need to lower your expectations, and hope you find someone with realistic expectations aswell, or it just wont last long even if you hit it off. find a girls who understands human nature, and doesnt just think she knows it all and "i can do anything i want, GIRLPOWER". a 'down to earth' girl, the type that is doing normal things, not browsing the meat-market online.
its still no guarantee, but at least yr gonna find women who are not just looking to use some guy for a weeks worth of foodie-dates, or to trap them with pregnancy for child support payments, or are actually a guy in china trying to get your trust before "her grandma is dying and needs you to send money" or the multitude of other scams that are the bread-and-butter of online dating nowadays.

This game has no right to be this endearing, and I hate that I love the story so much. I did not expect to enjoy the game this much. The Character development is true to life and the protagonist doesn't feel like the worst human alive, he feels genuine and I almost feel bad for picking the "horny" options when playing this. I am hooked

love the game so far but I find it difficult trying to find out what I did wrong when I cant continue one of the girl's story line, also some of the horror scenes caught me off guard, instead of being hard and enjoying a good laugh I nearly piss my self when the girl in black gives me a vision. Just hit the part where they say character level means nothing for your stats. All that matters is how much you exercise. Level just determines better gear you get to have. So is Thanatos cheating? No way IRL he's so in shape and so skilled with martial arts he can beat every other player in the game. How did he get that way without hacking his character? There's no tales of him losing? Ever? I call BS. I bet Thanatos is William Bardot using money to get his way and have powerful character in Eternum. All so he can be the sole owner and new founder of Eternum. And maybe the Eternum founder is Orion's father. And he made the game super unfair so it would be up to Orion to make it more fun and fair, and less like a horny wet dream for trolls and griefers.
I don't think Thanatos cheats, he has to have an overpowered piece of gear with a skill like "if incoming damage surpasses your remaining Hit Points, your HP is halved instead." Eventually his HP will be 1 (say, when he's shot in the neck), and then any incoming damage will never bring him fully to zero - just like Zeno's paradox on distance.
As for his identitity, my bet is that he's actually Luna's father: 1) You having the gem of doom was a secret almost no one knew about, yet Thanatos comes for you. Luna saw you get it - she even told you to hold on to it. 2) Luna first gives out the chip as a contest price because her father doesn't want it, yet when you go over to her home to play, she lends you a spare suit she has. Why does she have a spare? It's her father's - Luna knows who he is, and helps him. 3) Why do I say this? Think of the ambush Daliah invited you to be part of: Jeremy was killed by an ogre who appeared out of nowhere. Luna is a summoner. She summoned that ogre to help Thanatos, his father, get that gem of doom. 4) Now, motivation. What could drive a man to such extremes? Mr Hernandez said it: "I promised my wife I would do anything I could to care for Luna", or something along those lines. If he collects the gems, he becomes the CEO of Ulysses and can grant her anything. 5) Circling back to your point on skills: I don't think Thanatos is that skilled, but that he put in a lot of work via theatrics and what not (leaving those arrows sticking on his back) to build up this reputation, so when people see him their fear of him makes him lose. He even lets you and Daliah go so you spread tales about him. This is a game, it's all about pretending to be something you are not. Nova tells you she's got a reputation to keep, Jeremy gives his introduction a lot of importance, etc... Thanathos does the same, and that intimidation factor gives him an edge, a boost. Luna deceives you on 3 of the first 4 times you meet her ("you're dead", "I had a sister", "the voices..."), the last time her father is even in on it with practical effects to sell it. Extra point 1) Luna asks not to try the divination on her - maybe because you'd see a memory of her and Thanatos? Extra point 2) Thanatos eyes are red, like Luna's.
I guess it's just a matter of finding a trick to beat him. Whoever he is, he is def messing around around with tons super top tier gear and his level must be max'd to use it all.
As ruthless and selfish as he is, I don't see him as Luna's papa. It has to be Alex's father or bother using mods and hacks.
If Luna gave you her father's old suit to play the game, he would have to buy ANOTHER one. He can't do that easily. They cost a lot.
Yes the CEO spot would ensure Luna is set for life. But so would just getting her a great job somewhere. That's a huge leap. Playing a game and winning a contest, just to make sure your daughter is set for life. Especially when the contest has not been won in years.
Rep or no, skill is skill. No one would lose to him if all he had to smoke and mirrors making him seem scary. Especially Calypso. And What about his lines where he talks like a psycho about how great it is that might makes right in Eternum? That's not an act, he was being a sadist and Calypso threw the words back at him. Luna's pop aint that guy. He makes morbid jokes but not thrives on inflicting pain.
You can't change you appearance in Eternum. Only change clothes. So if thanatos has red eyes, is her father wearing contacts all the time? IDK about that.

I got a lot to say. I comment as I play the game. Usually it's dead around here, and no one says anything except gushing about how great the game is. But I have lore questions most of the time. Or life questions that come to me as I read the plot. Better to ask the fans and the creator than keep all my questions and musings to myself and never get answer.

It's all good, I'm all caught up now. The game is great. And while I missed the chance to see 100% of the game, and not onboard with all the roads the ladies seemed to be headed down kink wise, I'm just in love with the comedy and world building.
Please do not make Dalia become too horny. I love her innocence and purity. Even I can't have sex with her is ok. I still love her.She reminds me of my last deskmate who I miss very much.

I'm not sure how it works in this game so Ill go by the romance of OIAL. Unfortunately it seems that the writers believe as you level up romances that people want crazier and raunchier scenes. So it starts with innocent stuff and snowballs to 3somes and crazy rough sex. It's like that in VIRTUES and Nothing is Forever too. It got so bad in VIRTUES that I quit the game. As I'm not into hurting and insulting women. And the writer of the game never warned anyone that ALL the romances in the game end up like that. In OIAL it culminated more with a harem ending. All the girls love the MC and they are all one day just bisexual and okay with kissing each other and making sure the MC is pleased. Likely this game will be the same. Nothing offensive, just much more complex kinky stuff. I would be more than happy with just regular vanilla romances and some cowgirl and sweet pillow talk. But they likely need to appeal to the rest of the people who often want things to end up as kinky as possible.

I don't really need too many kinky scenes with Luna personally. I like her as she is too. Sometimes more kink doesn't fit the character. I'd never hypersexualize most characters from FMA for example.

Anyone can lose a fight in the game. Even the authority figures. So Praetorans and moderators or admins wouldn't be able to stop him. What if he was an executive who help make and run Eternum? Who deletes his account? The more I find out about Eternum the more it doesn't make any sense for a person to play it within the game's story.
I get the "you could die from smoking" but they say. But does that matter when you know you feel the pain of death if your shot in the chest or stab in your privates? Is that worth it?
I feel sorry for the guy who saves up the 2500 to get the game and then is trolled and humiliated nonstop everytime he logs on. Something that happens to me often in MMOs if I ask questions about lore. That guy gets no refunds and is tortured for the rest of his life. All it takes is someone to get OP like Thanatos and just kill anyone who tries to stop him. Might makes right. Why make the game that way?
If I was in this story I think the first thing I'd do is hire someone to develop a body suit and helmet that connected to the game without the needle in you neck. Having the pain feel real, even when it's a critical hit, like a stab in the eye or chest is a deal breaker. No way a kid or even most teens could handle that. The mental and emotional scarring alone would be insane. People would be a wreck after that. You'd have a slight advantage of not feeling pain as others do but playing the game with a suit that didn't mimic real pain. And it would still require skill and practice.
It would be enough for me to simply play the game with a suit that vibrated or warmed up in spots on my body to let me know I was interacting with the game. Like a vibration to show you were hot in the back of warning the hand to show you picked up a warm mug. And worse since some server have illegal content like rape and murder of kids, being trapped in one of those with no exit, you might not even escape fast enough to tell the authorities. In a way, a person could trap you in the game and torture you without doing critical damage until you begged them to stop and promised not to tell on them. There's already been cases where the cops of the game didn't show up to save people in need of help right away. Even tho the game is designed to protect people against being abused and trolled by being murdered and raped or tortured.
I Just think a real sicko must be behind the game if they can be a founder of a game that doesn't stop people from being able to go too far automatically. Like if a person is breaking a rule, instead of Praetorans coming, that person is forcefully logged out of the game and unable to ever log on again. Ever. That would stop child porn server and rapists for sure.

I love the comedy and the cast personalities. And the game looks great. But I just can't get into the idea that so much of this game, made by a multi-million dollar company is shady as hell. If you think about it for even a second it doesn't add up unless the live in a bleak dark future where the government and common man gives no F**KS.
If you were a parent and you 17 yr old logged off a game and cried in your arms that a crazy lady held her at gun point and told her to suck a guy off. Wouldn't you stop and NOTHING to find out what the company let that happen? What if you got in the game and you're 33 and a bunch of 19 yr old women tell you they're gonna help you level up bc you're new. But they just lure you to an OP player who humiliates you on your first day and tortured you and then kills you. Would you just log off and say "oh well guess this game was money well spent. Best $2500 I've ever spent."
My theory is that besides social commentary that the writer of the game is trying to mimic unfair crap in dark souls paired with trolling on the net and apathetic admins and mods. But it still doesn't add up that this game would make crazy money and not have long line of scarred for life players losing their mind for being stabbed in the chest everytime they log on. One guy gets his head smashed. Did he feel that? Wouldn't that crush his will to play the game?

I played Once In A Lifetime a month or so ago and thought it was alright. While the story was kinda meh in my opinion, and I didn't like how two girls basically had the same face, I do like the quirky sense of humor with the meta jokes here and there. Also, impreg is kinda my biggest fetish so its a plus.
Eternum is basically a huge leap forward. I actually find the story very intriguing and the setting is also pretty cool. A mix of Sword Art Online with Ready Player One. The character models are great and the h-scenes are solid as well. The MC still looks kinda weird but I'd say he looks much better. And despite all that, the sense of humor from Once In A Lifetime still persists.

Quite simply one of the best AVNs ever made. Cannot think of a real criticism. The animations are unbelievable for RenPy and the genre as a whole, looks amazing. The polish in general is just so good. Even the fact that its essentially a game about romantic LARPing but doesnt feel cringe or out of touch in the least. Dude definitely earned all 3500 of his patrons, cut his teeth on one of the best AVNs ever and stepped up his game twofold for this one.
It's the comedy that's the best sell for the game. And the improved models over the course of the games he's made. The first one had good ones but this one had way better. And in terms of comedy it's meta without fully breaking 4th wall. For example, a running theme in erotic games is that women will obsess over huge penises and freeze in their tracks. This happens a lot in this and his earlier game. And tons more. Since that's a huge gimmick, they even turned it into a joke in this game. When there's a serious moment where everyone needs to focus and do their job, the one monkey wrench in the plan is a girl ignoring all life threatening events because a huge penis is near her. Satire like that touches on two level. A jab at ero VNs in general, and a jab at the running gag in Caribdis' games. Plus it is even more of a heckle of spaz characters like "manick pixie dream girls" who can sometimes be too quirky for their own good.

Some of the these server idea and all the rule changing that comes from it seems a lot like Kingdom Hearts. Especially when they change how you look or what weapons you're ALLOWED to use.
So far it's a super intriguing game, not because of the mature content, but because of the context of the story.
The character designs and graphics are also fantastic. Though I have to ask, did Dalia's facial features change? According to me, the change began after the adventure with Nova in the temple of Maat, specifically in the part where they talk about the water butterflies. Then I noticed more the change in the scenes where they meet on the Rome server, and I became even more convinced that something changed in Dalia, in the last scenes of the game, when they meet in a house to study the robbery plan. . . . . .
In my personal opinion, I really liked Dalia's design at the beginning of the game, for example when we are introduced to Dalia and Penelope, in the school scenes and in the pool scenes when we are introduced to Alex.
For me, the initial Dalia design was my favorite.

It broke my heart seeing a character named after a goddess of truth and justice playing a villain who's only motivation was sex, violence, and stealing. And she is just one of 3 brown characters with no redeeming qualities. Like Ben and Willaim Bardot. I was hoping she was romance option but not just a cruel femme fatale.

If someone logs into Eternum, even tho it's an MMO, you can't see names or stats? How do you know if an enemy is too strong for you. At one point in the game a character said they had a fake name in the game. How? And when would someone see it? When they scanned her or selected her in the game as she walked around?
If a person dies in the game, can they remake their stats and go walk up to their own dead body? EDIT Ogygia is best arc so far. I just found out that's a ref to Odyssey. I thought is was an a server when there was a never ending orgy.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what the MC is trying to do with his character build. Why doesn't he focus and play a RPG class? Why can't you bring whatever gear you want to whatever server you want. If you get great gear in Red Herring, are you not allowed to have it in another server? That's nonsense.
I don't understand how exp is given to him. And I saw a fight scene but who know what was gained from it. Maybe the idea is to just pick one server and always stay there and become a OP badass there and only there. THe MC Orion never seems to get better at fighting or magic or anything. He kinda just talks to people and because he's simply there, quests progress and get solved. But who knows what his level is.

last time i played WoW, you couldn't take most gear between servers. you needed to roll a new character unless you got the character and all its gear transferred, as a premium service.. so the mechanics seem sound to me
then I guess the best idea is stay in one server and become OP there not jump around all over.
I wonder if it would be crazy, to just log into the Eternum game and just hang out with Idriel? Would she be fed up with that? But I guess it would only okay to do that after you've seen so much of Eternum that you'd have something great to talk about for hours.
Holy shit... what if it's a time loop. Some small things change but it's all cylindrical. Here's another theory: The MC, Orion, made Eternum but Eternum is about a VR of him eventually coming up with the skill and inspiration of wanting to make it in the first place. The women in his life inspired The Eternum Lady and Preatoran and Chang inspire Chop-Chop. And now, having alienated himself from all his friends IRL, he is playing Eternum to try and see the memories of their lives before he became the Founder. The game shows the past, mimicking the early days of them playing MMOs together.
I'm starting to wonder if what makes Eternum so popular is a drug-like euphoria gained from playing it. Like in the code. People often say they can't take their mind off it. And realistically how would a game take over an economy without something else at play? I guarantee you that Eternum is just another cult and like all successful cults, it subtly brainwashes the people to think they can't live without it. Remember how WOW had people quitting their jobs just to play it, even tho doing so would mean having no money to pay for it?
well for starters, a player is the kinda person who would go so far as to get what is basically a brain implant, in order to play it. theyre probably elon musk fanboys/fangirls

I feel greedy trying to push away guys from all the women, but I confess I do like almost all of them. It was the same way in Once in a Lifetime. But I feel like a bad guy. What right do I have to ruin another's love life chances when I'm already in love with another woman anyway. SMH I don't know. I just wish there was a way to make sure you know if they'd be happier with you or other guys.

I said it once I'll say it again.

That's my theory. There's no way the main character can trigger important events just from starting the game. As if quests and mysteries were all on hold until he got there. The hints are all there. "That never happened before. I never saw her before." Why would NPCs suddenly step forward and give more hints on a quest that was never solved before then? But now it suddenly has more clues when the MC shows up? It's like they said in Disgaea 2, "maybe the only reason you weren't turned into a monster is because you're the main character."
The main character is playing an offline game. All the girls in it that he loves are just NPCs. "They remember you. It's hard to tell who's a player and an NPC." And quests activate and progress when he's around because he's a player and the ONLY player. "(voice like All-Might) You can move on in a quest, BECAUSE I AM HERE!" He just forgot that he wipes his memory, and that he is playing a game when he starts (which he did for immersion, like in that Dragon Quest animated movie). " Hey, bored with playing games and always winning? You want full immersion and you're the founder or veteran player of a game? Memory wipe and play with no weapons and and only your allies are OK at the game, but no one is OP."

At the end of the game I bet the MC is alone and forced to accept that he got so into immersion of Eternum that he fell in love, not just with the game, but the NPC love interests he made in it as well. And so he deletes the game and decides to go have real relationships again.
But that's just a theory, A GAME THEORY!

I remember secret ending in "Once in a Lifetime". Well... This world is just another server from Eternum. And MC from Eternum played as MC from OIAL, but he didn't know it until he left the game. So, your words may be true. But I wanna think that both games (Eternum & OIAL) are not just random servers from "Eternum". I prefer to think that both games exist in the same world. Otherwise we wouldn't have seen mentions of Stabby Mike in the Eternum.
What secret ending? I messed up the romance story line of the teach and Judie, so maybe I didn't get the perfect ending. I was being too nice and the game assumed I didn't want to date them. By the time I saw I was locked out, it was too late. And I only had one save file.
If the MC of OIAL is the same as Eternum's, I can buy that secret ending idea that both games are just servers in the same giant MMO. But I still think OIAL happened. The book didn't help the cult take over. And the cult is reffed (referenced) in the game, Eternum (with a newpaper and some dialogue). I think Eternum is just another cult's way of taking over since witchcraft and cloak and dagger stuff didnt' work.
President Stabb is I think still president, but I only here about him when the MC is at school or around town. But I wouldn't be surprised if he is play Eternum. In this game Chang and Chop-Chop seem to be the "Stabby Mike" character. So i'm doubting Stabby shows up.
I think both games exists too. But I think OIAL ends where Eternum begins and Eternum is a lingering problem from the time in OIAL. Something the MC didn't notice that was allowed to thrive.

Only thing I can think of would be romance all girls in OIAL and keep Stabbs alive.
You have to fail at trying to have an affair with someone. Then at the end of the game, the MC from Eternum will shut down the game and talk to Dalia, who will laugh at the fact that the MC didn't have any girlfriends even in the game.
Wow. So if you go thru the who game and never have sex or a romance you get a huge meta teaser for the next game... Does that mean OIAL is the game Orion made when he was 14?
