Heya Cho Crow The Skeleton Here I Want To Say Trough My Heart and Soul Dating Start Was Indeed The Greatest VN I Have Ever Play Thank you for Your Hard Determination.

Oh Yeah I Forgot Tibia Honest With you Buddy That Will Sound Stupid But uh Is There Will Another one Like This In Underfell or Underswap or Other Aus?.

If Not Then I don't Want Be Burden on Ya Pal Ok?.

(1 edit) (+1)

Thank you so much for the comment and for playing through the VN! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

And no, there are no stupid questions! I haven't made any AU VNs, myself. But I know of two that are currently in development:

1.) Bonely Hearts Club by owl-bones is a VN that features a lot of the AU Sans and Papyruses. They released a demo, so you can try it out!

2.) Nightmare Castle by StudioNovella is a VN RPG that features a lot of the AU Sanses. I don't believe there is a demo out yet, however.

Hey Derpychocho! I recommended a friend of mine to play your game, but somehow they encountered an error while trying to extract the file. I'm commenting on their behalf. Here's what they said:

"So keep in mind my laptop is an old version of Windows 7. I downloaded the game from the site: itch.io Transferred the zip file to a folder. Extracted the zip file inside that folder (I named DatingStart) While extracting, the window popped up saying access denied. Opening the game icon lead me to this:

=My friend really wants to try playing the game. I hope you can tell how he can fix it. Cuz I honestly don't know how to help them.:)

(2 edits)

I'm sorry to hear your friend is having trouble!  :(   The only thing I can think of is that when that "access denied" message appears while unzipping, it missed some files.  Could I maybe have a screencap of the inside of that "DatingStart" folder?

I would recommend trying to right-click the unzipped folder and unzipping without using WinRAR, too.

They can also feel free to email me via derpychocho [at] gmail.com. I'm sorry if my replies will be rather slow!  But I'll do what I can to help!  :)

(+2)

Update!! Thanks for your help!^-^ What my friend needed to do was just extract the zip file WITHOUT moving it into another folder. They're currently playing your VN now. He'll leave a review here too. Thanks for replying to my comment<3

(+1)

I'm glad he was able to figure it out! I hope he enjoys playing! Also, there's never any obligation to leave a comment about it!  I'm just happy you liked it enough to recommend it! :)

(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧OMG I just played this 4 hrs straight till 2 AM lol. Amazing! This is one of the best Undertale fangame visual novels I've ever played! I really enjoyed it^^

I actually expected this game to just be a cheesy and funny visual novel but I was pleasantly surprised. I absolutely LOVE the artwork/CGs you made! I love how well you were able to present sans and everyone else so much in character! It was a really great experience.

As of now, I was only able to finish the True Love route(?) is that what it's called? lol. Everyone was so sweet and wholesome I couldn't stop giggling every time sans makes a pun(◍>◡<◍)⋈。✧♡ and how everyone reacted. My first playthrough really made me feel like I was in the game, and I became attached to the characters. I'm hesitating whether or not I should do the genocide route since I'm already satisfied by the ending and I don't want to take sans and everyone's happiness away ಥ_ಥ. I plan to replay soon^^

Your VN got me back to my old sans fangirl phase from 3 years ago. For a skeleton, sans...is really charming here. Playing was super "pun" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I can tell how much love and effort you placed into this passion project^^ And I absolutely LOVEd playing it!

(+1)

Thank you so much for playing and for leaving a comment!  I'm glad that you enjoyed my passion project!  And I'm glad you fell back in love with Sans.  >:3  Honestly, I just wanted to share the way I see (and love) Sans with everyone else.  And it makes me happy to see you had a skele-TON of fun!

To answer your question, yes!  It's called "True Love."  There are three routes in total: "True Love," "True  LOVE (No Love)," and the "Secret Route."  You'll find the Secret Route just by playing again.  I won't give away any more than that.  :)

Also, that hesitation you have to go back and play the geno/no love route.... it means I did my job.  >:D

(+1)

Okay so I was able to finish the secret route^^ it was really cute and fun. But I felt guilty when flowey called me out lmaoo. Will probably do the True LOVE route next ;)

Thank you for making this VN derpychocho^^ Looking forward to your future projects<3

(+1)

I have not played the game yet, and I will come back later with some feedback. The reason I'm commenting right now is that I only wanted to say how happy I am to be in such a proactive fandom tha creates content of this amazing universe that Toby Fox has created that is Undertale. I am grateful for this kind of effort people do, and I will seek to support it with all I have.

(+1)

I'm in the half of it. Got no advices. My heart is experimenting way too strong emotions, wich is exactly what I was looking for. I shall return tomorrow, when I have calmed down.

(+3)

Ok I finished. So let's make the feedback I wanted to make:

I had never seen a fangame that captures the scence of Undertale so good. It's not only copying what made Undertale unique, but adapting it to the own game. I can understand now why there is no more love interests other than sans and it is because the whole story includes things that only sans can understand, because he is the hardest to conqueer due to his lack of confidence based on all he knows and all he fears. The resests, the timelines, everything makes him fear and you have to get through all of that.

In resume: I was looking for a simple dating game to pass time, and you gave me a whole experience. I will not forget this just like other dating visual novels.

Sadly, I consider that is it's weakest point, and I would like it to be considered.

I'm not surprised that everyone came for a simple dating visual novel and ended up with a whole experience. All I have said before with timelines, resets and how is sans the hardest to be with is something I would like to see on the future advertising of this game. It's like buying a meal that sounds plain and simple and get something amazing for lunch. That makes the costumer happily surprised and would be dumb of him to complain. That makes, of course, a lot other costumers to miss the experience because they think the meal is plain even though it isn't.

I hope that feedback helps. I'm saving this experience in a special zone of my heart.

Personal experience:

I DID NOT return to the game after the good ending. I erased the game and everything, and that is not because I'm a good person. It's for the same reason I stay away of gore videos: for my mental health.

I SHALL NOT BE FLOWEY'S TOOL OK? STAY AWAY OF MY HUNNIE BUN

HAPPILY EVER AFTER MOTHERFUCKERS

That's all. Thank you for reading.

Ah, I forgot something: HOW DO I DONATE TO THIS MASTERPIECE??

(+1)

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment and for playing the game!  I'm glad that you enjoyed it!  And I'm glad you understand why Sans is the only true love interest in this.  Rather than being an otome where you can pick from multiple love interests, I wanted it to be more of a character exploration of Sans with a focus on love.  And I'm glad that it pleasantly surprised you.  I'll be honest, I do consider advertising exactly what happens and how you have to dig deeper.  But at the same time, I do like being able to pleasantly surprise everyone.  Perhaps a balance where I try to hint that there's more than what the surface might show.

LOL Happily ever after!  It's always so interesting to me to see whether or not people do the No Love route, consider it, or outright refuse to!  I'm glad you were satisfied with your happy ending!

And in regards to donating, I truly appreciate the thought! Thank you!  However, I decided not to open donations for this.  I'm honestly just happy that I was able to finish my passion project and that so many people liked it!  That, in and of itself, warms my heart with love.

(+1)

I understand your choice about donations, and I am very grateful as well to be able to play such a masterpiece. For the advertising, I do agree that a balance would be the best. Thank you very much for replying, and be sure I'll be here to support all your future projects as long as I live.

hi, i was wondering on how to actually defeat sans in his last phase where he’s well asleep, the only button available is “mercy” and i have tried playing through other routes to see if he would change but hasnt, so my question is: is sans beatable? Or to actually beat him do i have to wait an incredibly long time?

Hi there!  Yes, there is a way to defeat Sans. If you pay attention to his dialogue right before he falls asleep, he hints as to what to do.  All you need to beat him is on that screen.

--FIGHT SPOILERS--

Click and drag the dialogue box at the bottom.  You'll see that there's something hiding there.

(+1)

tysm much! I would have never noticed myself!

Hi !! ^^
I really loved this game like so so much so thank you !

And I have a little question ?

-Spoiler I guess-

After the ending where Chara take our soul, is it possible to do a true love route after ?
Because I keep restarting and getting the true LOVE route because Chara not allowed me to spare Sans... '^^

(And sorry if it's not really understable or if I made mistakes, english is not my first language '^^)

(+1)

Hi!  I'm happy you loved the game!  Thank you for playing!!  ^^ And your English is fine!

- Spoilers-

It is not possible to go back to True Love after Chara takes your SOUL.  Chara will force you to betray Sans every time.

If you want to delete your game to download a new one and play again, here's instructions on how to do that: https://itch.io/post/2792964

Hi! I hope i dont disturb, but when i tried to start up the game it says that windows protected my pc and that running the game would put my pc in risk

(+2)

No you're no disturbing at all! Quite a few people have experienced this as well. But I assure you that there's nothing harmful about it! Some PCs are protective when it comes to VNs made in Ren'Py.

When that message appears, if you click "More Info", you'll get the button that says "Run anyway".

Although i want to know why that message appears, thank you!

(+2)

I came to this game expecting it to be some kind of troll one, and instead of laughing I ended up crying, this was beautiful

(+2)

I'm happy it pleasantly surprised you! And I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for playing!!

(1 edit) (+2)

God, I played this game last night and I stayed till 4:40am and I couldn't help but FEEL SO MUCH, I cried with Toriel's dialogues and it makes me feel kinda embarassed lol but the whole true love route felt like heaven, I never thought of Sans as a husbando but this game??? this game made me LOVE HIM. SO MUCH.

- SPOILERS -

Oh I loved him so much, but it broke my heart to kill him twice to get both the LOVE route and the true love route after the LOVE route. Whenever I have time I will download the game again so I can leave it at just the true love route.

p.d. I got the secret route while trying to get the LOVE route, it was awesome when Flowey said that I cheated on Sans with his own brother I didn't expect it at all lol

I'm happy to hear that the VN pulled you in!! And I'm glad Sans' charm hooked you! ;D

-SPOILERS-

I'm sorry it broke your heart! But I suppose that is the price to pay for True LOVE. And yes, that little quip in the secret route. Flowey is not very nice, is he?

Thank you so much for playing and for taking the time to leave a comment! I'm glad it warmed your heart with love.

Dating Start: Have you ever just looked at a skeleton and wanted to date it - YouTube

Hi I am so excited to play this, I am playing Undertale again and I do visual novels and other games usually too so when I found this I knew I had to play it. I'm really excited to see how things happen because I am horrible at wooing the skeleton.

Hi there!  Thank you for recording your playthrough!  I'm always thrilled to watch these!  :D  I hope you enjoy playing!  And I look forward to seeing the next videos come out!  Also, don't worry too much about wooing him.  As Sans said, "just say and do what feels right."  :)

hia :) i was replaying the game and once i got to floweys darkness a message came up and when i press ignore it stays there and when i press roleback it just closes my game ive tryed deleting the game and re-downloding it but the same message just comes up. i dont know how to fix this since now i cant play the game at all.

(1 edit)

Hi! I'm sorry you encounter that error! Thank you for providing the screenshot, that really helps me! I'll see if I can recreate it on my end.

In the meantime, you will have to delete everything to start a blank slate, unfortunately.

I have a post on how to do that here. The only difference is that you will be deleting the folders titled "DatingStartVN-1.0.2-pc" and "DatingStartVN-102".

Let me know if you need me to clarify!

Thanks my game is now working if there are any more problems ill let you know but i hope you have a nice day :)

Hi, so I played a bunch of routes of the game and it's a lot of fun, but I'ma kinda stuck.... I wanna get the True LOVE ending (genocide) but I can't seem to get the last combination... Maybe a bit of help?

I created a walkthrough for the True LOVE ending.  My suggestion would be to follow this list one-by-one, even if you think you did a combination already.  Good luck  =)

(+1)

thanks it was a big help... well I'm stuck in the battle now 😂 just gotta stay determined

(+1)

wahh this is a wonderful game! My friend suggested me to play it and it really warmed my heart. Tysm for making this, I heard it took you a long time to do so so i hope ur taking rest! Can I ask,, if i reset after i reached the very ending, what would happen? ;v; I'm scared and i feel bad about thinking about doing it for some reason, because i'm scared if it might hurt sans or cause flowey to create havoc, so thats why i am asking, if you dont mind! X,D

(2 edits) (+1)

I'm glad the game warmed your heart! Thank you for playing it! And yes, I'm definitely enjoying a good rest!

!! SPOILERS !!

If you RESET after the very end, Sans won't be hurt... so long as you choose not to use the knife and FIGHT. In order to get a bad ending, you have to hurt everyone on purpose.  So don't worry if you're going to RESET!  Just resist the temptation to FIGHT, and nothing bad will happen!  :)

Made this account just to leave a comment here. This game srsly brightened up my day,, nd it was very well made. From the plot, to the art, to everything in general. It's one of the most best Undertale fangames I have ever played, and I am very glad I did. Thank you so much for making this, Creator!! Take some rest, you deserve that. May I ask, after your break ofc (nd no rush!) do u plan to make more Undertale fangames soon? I wish you the best of luck, and I look forward to more of your creations. Take care :]

(1 edit) (+1)

Thank you for taking the time to make an account just to leave a comment! That means a lot! And thank you for playing! I’m glad to hear it brightened your day!

I do have another Undertale fan VN idea that I’d like to try to develop! But it may also take two years to make. Maybe more. ^^; I’m definitely going to enjoy my break until I get back at it! Thank you for the good luck wishes!

No problem at all :D And take your time! After all, all the great things take alot of time :] Breaks are top priorities anyways! And no problem again, ty for taking time to reply to this!

this made my day, im glad i decided to look at undertale fangames today. i legit almost started crying at the end this was so cute shdggehwsh. good job, its well made

(+1)

Thank you so much!! I’m really glad you enjoyed it! And I’m glad the game’s emotions reached you.

Would you plan on making a sequel? Just asking.

This game is wonderful! The art, the plot ,the music... and the characters are so cannon! it genuinely felt like I was playing Undertale XD .

Thank you! I’m glad that you enjoyed playing! ^^

I don’t think I’ll make a sequel to Dating Start. I DO have some other Undertale visual novel ideas I’d like to try making, though!

But I’m taking a break first. Dating Start! took two years to make, so I’m resting XD

(+1)

Ok, so I played this game with my friends, and we voice acted the characters, and at first we though this would be like a tipical dating game, but this game blew our minds! The music was amazingly picked, the art was breath-taking, and don't even get me started on the whole plot! Honestly the best visual novel game, and an undertale fangame I have ever played. I'd love to see more from you!

(+1)

I'm glad it was a pleasant surprise! Thank you for playing and for taking the time to comment! It really means a lot that you liked it so much! And once I'm out of my dev break, I'd love to make more VNs, for sure!

This game was amazing!! A genuinely well written visual novel with beautiful art!! I'm unfortunately on a mac though so I never figured out how to fully reset my game lol

(1 edit) (+1)

Thank you so much for playing! I’m glad you enjoyed it! In regards to a Mac, all I know is that you’ll have to delete two folders.

1. The folder you downloaded.

2. The Dating Start folder found in “~/Library/RenPy/game_directory”

But I don’t know how to find that second folder, as I don't use a Mac, sorry!  ^^;

(+1)

Oh goodness, I don't even know where to start!

I finally scrounged up my old PC in the closet just so I could play this, took me a good 30 minutes to set it up but it was so worth it!  The art, the choices, puzzles, puns, everything was just so fantastically made for a great experience!

I can't even count how many times I laughed, wheezed, and got embarrassed even at this.  It was everything I had hoped for and more!  If I could rate this, I'd give it 5 stars a million times.

Thank you so much for making this, and it's amazing in every way possible!

I’m so glad you got a chance to play it! And thank you for going through the trouble to play it!! I’m happy you enjoyed the VN!

And I’m glad that you had a good experience! I tried my best to send the player through a wide range of feelings. So I’m glad to see you experienced them!

Thank you again for playing and for taking the time to leave a comment!

Do this game has unknown sources?

(1 edit) (+2)

Yooo this is so well made im crying rn aidhwdb :'), Great game tho, im im srsly in emotional pain how can i reset everything after the genocide run because iT hUrTs when i did it :'), tho even when i delete and re-install it and extract it, it wont go back- its just a black screen, pls im desperate on fixing my mistAkes :'D

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :D

!! SPOILERS

If you're seeing the black screen when you open the game, you have to wait a bit until Chara speaks to you. That will give you an option to restore the world. After you give Chara your SOUL, the game will crash and then open back up again so you can replay it.

(1 edit) (+1)

Hi! I started playing the game last week and oh boy it's so good! I love every single scene in this game especially scenes with da boi XD I don't how many times I played the True Love ending (SO MANY TIMES) and still love it! I even swear to myself to never reset... But then I did and play the secret ending as well as the True LOVE ending because of curiosity. It still hurt ngl but I started playing the True Love route again to ease the pain a little bit. I still have the urge to do True LOVE route again but... maybe another time. I'm afraid I cannot bear the pain.

Spoiler-ish?

I still cannot forget the scenes with sans in True Love ending. At first I was skeptical to choose the kiss option because I'm afraid that it would only made him ignore me or something because it was so sudden XD So, I tried the option in my second run and I CANNOT STOP THINKING ABOUT IT. It's been almost a week and I still couldn't forget the way he kiss the player in the judgement hall. It ignite something in my heart for this man that I thought were lost last year. This game even encourage me to return to the fandom after almost a year I left.

Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for making this amazing game. I love you and please stay safe! Now excuse me, I'm going replay the True Love route again...

(1 edit)

Ahhhhh! Thank you for playing!!  ^^  I'm glad that you liked all the scenes!  Also, I'm sorry True LOVE hurts, but I suppose that means it does its job.  :)

SPOILERS (to be sure)!

And I'm glad you liked that final kiss in Last Corridor!  I had both kissing and not kissing options just in case there were players that wanted a more platonic kind of option.  :)  And I really wanted that last scene to be a big explosion of all the emotions being felt throughout the entire visual novel.  To be honest, I basically took my own SOUL and the emotions I felt and poured everything onto the page.  I'm so glad that the emotions reached you.  :)   Thank you so much again for playing and for taking the time to comment!  You stay safe, too!

Will there be time when it can be available to play online instead of downloading it?

Unfortunately, I don’t think so. Ren’Py has a file size limit for Web based builds. And Dating Start exceeds that limit.

Ah, I see!  Alright, thank you for making this game by the way!  I can't wait to play once I get a PC!

when will you port mobile version

I don't plan to port it to mobile, as I don't have a way of testing it. If I can test in the future, then maybe. But for right now, I will not port it.

(+1)

I just recently played this game and oh my goodness! you did a spectacular job on this, not only is it visually well done but you portrayed the Undertale characters so well. While I was playing I went through so many emotions but I couldn't stop smiling and laughing. I can't imagine the hard work you must had to go through to see this project through, All I can say is that you did amazing and that I'm looking forward to seeing more of whatever else you come up with, cause you are so talented and just wow. Thank you for making this game ^^

Thank you so much for your comments!!  I'm really glad that the emotions reached you!  And thank you for playing!!  It's always wonderful to see people enjoying my silly passion project!  And I definitely hope to make more VNs in the future, both Undertale and not!  :D

Can i play this on chromebook???????????????????????

I think this can only be played if you have Linux for Chromebook. But I'm not really sure how that works. Other than that, it's only PC/Mac/Linux, sorry!

I absolutely love this wonderful game!

I'm sorry that I cannot express in words how great and gorgeous this game is, because there are so many wonderful things in it!

But at least i can say that i love it so much! :3

Don't be sorry! Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! And thank you for playing! I'm really glad that you love the VN so much! ^^

How do i download this on mobile lol

Sorry, this is only available on PC/Mac/Linux. I currently don’t have plans to port this to mobile.

Hello! I just want to ask how can I fully reset the game again? I just played all the route and (spoiler) it breaks my heart that I betrayed sans after the genocidal route where Chara took the soul of my character and when I reset again (doing the pacifist route again), at the end of the game at the judgement hall where sans and the character should have a moment I suddenly killed sans and it's the end of the game.

I just want to play the game again where I still have the soul of my character also I enjoyed it very much! Thank you for creating this VN game 😭

Thank you for playing! I'm happy you enjoyed it!

I only have the instructions for making a clean slate on Windows for v1.0.1. If you're on Mac or Linux, I'm not sure how to clear the data, sorry!

Just in case, spoiler warning for the comment below.

I had a lotta of fun playing this game. I loved seeing everybody, especially Papyrus and Mettaton (I was so hyped when I saw that Papyrus' scarf-thing was animated, thank you for that detail), and I think everybody was written well! It makes me worried if I try to get other endings (I have only True Love so far) because it's probably going to sting.

I liked Sans well enough before playing, but this game helped me appreciate him better. He's this casual, supportive, funny dude with a good heart who tries to enjoy life despite the circumstances. I guess I could've gleaned these traits from Undertale itself, but this game in particular helped me understand and solidify his character in my mind. I now appreciate Sans, without a doubt (or perhaps, sans doubt, lol).

In summary, very fun game! Everyone was in-character, I loved their dialogue; the art and music were new and charming interpretations of the source material; the stages of the story were great and I liked the nods to Undertale's own story beats (and the puns... I loved them all), and I'm happy this game is a thing. Thank you and kudos for making it.

Thank you so much for playing!  I'm glad you enjoyed the visual novel!  :D   And I'm glad that you thought everyone was in-character and that you liked the dialogue.  I really strived to keep the Undertale spirit as much as I could!  But, of course, I had to add a dash of that visual novel flair to the recipe.  :)

Now you appreciate him sans doubt, eh?  LOL  I'm glad to hear it!  I tried my best to paint the picture of how I see Sans in my mind so I could share that with everyone. So it's nice to know that his character shined through.  :)  Thank you again for taking the time to comment and for playing!

(1 edit) (+1)

I love this game. I played it three times already ! First, I want to say that the music is great and well-used, I love the remixes of the original game ! It really contributes to creating an immersive experience, even more when you cut it at some particular times. With your fantastic writing (I love the scenes where you describe sans and our character laughing) and the cute art, I was totally immersed in the story. I was also impressed with your use of Ren'Py !

spoiler !!!!

I wanted to try everything, so I played the "true LOVE ending" (even if I didn't do the genocide run in the original game), and it was bad for my heart haha ! Seeing Sans so sad, remembering that we were soulmates... Or when we kiss him and then kill him... the "player... why ?"... I was heartbroken. I feel like the saddest moment was when we came back after being dunked, and sans say that we shouldn't say to the others Sans what we have done because they really love us... I can't stop thinking about that. It's like he's giving up (of course), but cannot stop hoping at the same time that in another timeline he will be happy with us ? I don't know, I think it was one of the hardest parts to read :(

One of the other things that I love about your game is that you can "headcanon" it. It's possible that Frisk/the player will reset, and our character and sans will be separated, but brought together after the good ending, on the surface ? Or you can imagine them coming back during a genocide run... What an idea haha ! I was also wondering if Sans kept mementos of our character, of their time together, like a picture. And then during a true LOVE walkthrough he sees it and he is even more heartbroken... (Yeah, I love to make me sad. :'( ) One last thing I was thinking about is the beginning of act 2. Why are we injured ? Is it because we are "heartbroken" ? (I think it was what Flowey said ?) Or because we fall on the knife ?

To end this review, I want to thank you for sharing your beautiful work with us, because it really helped me when I was feeling down, and it's now one of my favorite visual novel. <3 I hope you're proud of your game because you deserve it, haha ! (and sorry for my bad english :p)

(+1)

Thank you so much for playing the visual novel!  :)  And thank you so much for writing a comment!  I'm happy you were totally immersed in the story!

!! SPOILERS

That scene was hard for me to write, too. I think I made myself sad during a lot of the scenes I wrote for True LOVE. But I'm glad that the emotions reached you!

And yes, I left it vague enough for people to headcanon what happens afterward.  :)  There's a chance for Frisk to come back and reset.  There's also the player that can reset.  Maybe the player will find Sans on the surface. Maybe they'll go back to the Underground to find him. We may leave the world when we close out of the visual novel... but the story doesn't have to end there. I wanted each of us to bring a piece of it back to reality (if we want to) with our own idea of how the love story continues.  :)

In regards to why we're injured during the second run, yes it's because we're "heartbroken."  At the restaurant, our SOUL connects with Sans... but he walks away.  And the pain of that is what drops our HP.

Thank you again for playing!  It means so much to know this is one of your favorite visual novels. (And don't apologize, your English was good! :D)

(1 edit) (+1)

!!! Spoilers !!!

Well, you did a really great job ! I think that because our character is so... "numb" in the true LOVE run, we can feel even more the despair of sans. As an empath person, I needed to take breaks reading just to digest Sans's feelings haha.

I'm surprised we didn't fall into despair in the restaurant at the end of the second act, haha. When our character can't look at Sans because they fear that he is looking at us with pity or disdain... ah I felt that ! And the disconnect with the other people in the restaurant when Sans is gone and the sounds come back... Yeah, that scene was really well-made.

I realize I didn't speak about the true love ending. Well, it's because it was perfect. Soft, tender but with a bit of angst ! I loved every intimate scene, especially the telescope one : sans was so warm in it, and it's even better because it's in the first act haha. But each part was really touching ! And I loved the bonding time with Toriel, Papyrus, Undyne and Alphys. Seeing how they start caring about us between funny moments... I think it’s an important part of what makes the game a heart-warming experience for the player. (and even more hurtful in the sad moments :p) And the part after Flowey's reset... when we finally understand what Sans is searching in our soul (and that he's looking at us with hope, not pity) ... well I love every scene where sans is happy soooo.... But the best part is of course the judgement hall ! Full of love, I had to try every choice haha ! And I have to say that the result of a platonic love run was my favorite, like whoa Sans running at us and throwing himself in our arms... It's even better after a true LOVE ending haha (but only if you erase all your data before of course ! =) )

As you read, I have many feelings about this game, and it made me want to play undertale again haha, so thank you for making me come back to the fandom :p

!! SPOILERS

Thank you!!  ;n;  I strived so much for the player to feel completely numb during the LOVE run. I tried to do that by repeated playthroughs as a requirement. I also changed the way the player described many things. Fore example, the laughter in MTT in particular I made sure to describe negatively during a LOVE run.

I'm glad you were able to feel the disconnect with the atmosphere of the restaurant! When the sounds came back, I wanted it to feel like, even though there were sounds of people around... we still felt alone. I wanted it to feel like our minds were somewhere else.

And I'm glad you liked the True Love ending! I wanted it to be as soft and sweet and filled with so many affectionate emotions. I basically poured all of my emotions onto the page in hopes that those emotions would reach others.

Also, welcome back to the Undertale fandom.  :)

(+2)

This game was so amazing, words can barely describe it. For the first time in a long, long time, I found myself laughing, crying or even blushing right along with the characters, I was so enveloped in the story that it was like I was actually there. And, like waking up after a long dream, coming out of my first run of the game was bittersweet, because I genuinely didn't want it to end. I had become part of the story, and I didn't want to close the book and return to my life... All-in-all, well done. Thank you for this experience.

Now it's murder time. >:)

I'm so glad you enjoyed it and that the emotions reached you! Thank you so much for playing!

And honestly, I'm happy you felt that way! I really wanted to give the player the feeling of being pulled from the world when closing the game at the end of True Love.

But, at the same time, the story doesn't have to end there. We can always carry it with us in our minds and in our hearts. :)

Now.... have fun falling into True LOVE! =)

Hey so I failed miserably at the gen route so I'm deleting and re-downloading so I can just play the good route again ^^;
I don't have the heart to murder ;-;

(+1)

LOL That's honestly more than fair!  At least now everyone will be happy!  And you're getting the most updated version!  So it's a win-win!  :D

(+2)

--SPOILER WARNING kinda sorta--
Anyone else wait for like 20 minutes after the True Love ending to see if anything would happen? no? just me..?

(+2)

--- SPOILERS, maybe?

(Hopefully I did that right, I've never left a comment before lol.)

I'm gonna start this off by saying that I enjoyed this WAY more than I thought I would. For context, I'm a lesbian, so not exactly the target audience for this sort of thing ^^; I'd seen people talking about the game online, though, and it looked interesting, so I thought, what the heck. I've got a Friday evening with nothing else to do, I'll give this game a shot.

And uh, boy am I glad I did?? The quality was insane, it was so good. I'm used to a lot of UT fangames being high quality, but the fact that you did most of this yourself is... wow. The writing was really solid, all the art was nice, and it was just a really fun experience.

I was really into Undertale back when it was hugely popular and have played through the game loads of times, both on my own and with a friend, so at this point I know it so well that it's hard to experience the emotions you would normally feel playing it. I hit something that's supposed to be a big emotional twist, but because I know what happens so well, it isn't a surprise anymore.

I don't know if that makes any sense, but playing your game really reminded me of what it was like to play Undertale for the first time, just the emotions and all that. The ways that the resets were used and how all of your choices actually affected the character dialogue and interactions, all of that stuff just made it a really fun experience. When Flowey killed me and the game closed, I had to take a moment to sit there in silence and stare at my desktop while I sorted through all my thoughts.

I should also mention that I really appreciated that the game wasn't in-your-face romantic? That's not the best way to phrase that, but it's 1AM and I can't think of anything better. There were multiple places where you could choose between an action that was obviously romantic (i.e. kissing) and something that could be interpreted in a more platonic way and I really liked that. Using the term "soulmates" was also so sweet and thematically appropriate and also didn't make me so embarrassed that I had to close the game, which I'm so grateful for! During some of the scenes with Sans, I spent a lot of time worrying that it would suddenly turn /very/ romantic and I would have to close the game and go take a breather, but that never happened. (Not that something more explicitly romantic would have been bad, per se, it just wouldn't have been the sort of game I'd be able to play without blushing furiously the whole time.)

Ah, geez, I feel like this is so long but there's so much I still want to talk about. Let's see... it was funny! Between the awful puns, the character interactions, and everything, I found myself laughing a lot. There's also the music - I need to go look some of the remixes up so I can listen to them while I'm working.

I haven't even gotten a chance to play the LOVE/No Love route yet, since I just finished the normal route and wanted to come write a comment ASAP, but I'm really looking forward to it. I was a bit surprised to find out there's a Genocide route in this game, to be honest, but I'm looking forward to murdering everyone and breaking Sans's heart! (not in a weird way)

TLDR, since I'm incapable of shutting up: Came into this game expecting nothing, will now spend all my free time thinking about it for the next three weeks. Thank you very much for making this game, I'm so happy to have played it! <3

!! SPOILERS (just to be safe)

Thank you so much for playing my little passion project! I'm glad that you enjoyed it so much!!  ^^

And I'm glad that it reminded you of those same Undertale emotions. I understand what you mean when you say you know the story so well, the first time emotions aren't quite the same. I really strived to pour as many emotions as I could into this. I can't help it, I just have a lot of feelings about this game, I think ^^:

In regards to the romantic vs. platonic, I really wanted to give the player the ability to pick the level of affection they were comfortable with. So someone can play through completely platonic and still achieve the True Love ending. And, of course, for those that just wanna smooch at every moment, they can do that too LOL

As for the music/remixes, I placed hyperlinks in the Music Room (in the Extras menu). So clicking the blue titles will take you directly to the cover, if it exists on Youtube, Soundcloud, etc.  :)

Have fun with True LOVE/No Love!  Don't worry, I know it's not in a weird way.  It's just that desire to see everything.  =)

Thank you again for playing!  <3

(1 edit) (+1)

Omg this is really well made! I loved the reset concept (it's A LOT like the real game) and gahhh everything was spot on! From the characters to the music. It really made my day so thank you so much, from the bottom of my SOUL <3

Edit:

Haha I'm wondering how long this took you? And omg how did you learn all of these RenPy tricks? HUGE RESPECT

(+1)

Ahhhhhhh thank you so much!  And thank you, thank you for playing!  I'm really glad that the VN warmed your heart with love.  <3

In regards to how long this took me, this was my passion project of two years.  :)

And all those Ren'Py tricks were a combination of researching the Ren'Py cookbook/forums as well as putting a new spin on existing functionality. There was a lot of experimenting with the coding.  ^^;  Basically, I had 20+ tabs of Ren'Py documentation open at any given time LOL

Hello, I just want to say I really love this game!

Er---SPOILERS I guess ----

First of all, I've played the original Undertale (I'll call it UT now) years ago, it's been 5 years since the game was released...time flies. Honestly I can't even remember much about UT anymore - well I know the story but the finer details escaped me, and playing Dating Start certainly jogged my memory a bit. I totally love how consistent the characters are written - it really feels like I'm playing the original UT again. The jokes, the way each of them speaks definitely gives off that same vibe of UT without making any of them seem OOC. I know some details and lines are certainly taken from UT, but LOL... like I said I have bad memory so it's hard to differentiate what you actually wrote and what was taken from UT.

Toriel was so cuddly and warm as usual, I love that little motherly talk session with her! The hints and sparks flying between Undyne and Alphys are so cute as well! I also love how you give players the choice of smooching Sans at every possible moment xDDDD And of course, the choice NOT to smooch him for anyone who doesn't want to. That's really sweet (but you probably know what I chose xDD).

That said, I replayed the happy/True love route again and again to pick all the possible choices. The little variations and reactions from different choices were so much fun and finely written. I especially like how "Jumping off" the bridge became an option in later playthroughs LOL. I'd imagine any monster who sees that must be like "Yooo that hooman is crazy" xD I love that if the player picks that choice, Sans realizes how weird it is.

I also like how you utilized repeated phrases like "filled with determination" "warm your heart with love", and especially Sans' saying "cause someone really cares about you". I'm not quite sure if it alludes to himself or Toriel or anyone else in the original UT, but the way you turned it to explicitly refer to himself in the happy end "cause I really care about you" was so sweet xD

While I didn't want to cheat, the "secret" route was too enticing so I ended up doing it anyway. And I totally LOVE it (capitalized for emphasis btw, it's not an acronym or anything). All the different choices of making spaghetti and picking out Papyrus' outfit was really fun. I found myself laughing a lot LOL. While I certainly did not play this game with the intention of wooing the taller skeleton, I still find him endearing. Though, it really tugged at my heart when Sans shook the player's hand at the end of Papyrus' route and gave a sad smile. Flowey calling me "cheating with his brother" also didn't help orz... I felt bad :(

...But not as bad compared to when I play the True LOVE route. Tbh, years ago when playing UT, I completely left out the genocide route, mostly because it was unnecessary to kill everyone (like whyyyy) + Sans' fight could really kick some ass + wiping save files is a pain. I did watch Youtube playthroughs though. This time I decided to try it myself. Welp, lots of regret.

So, first of all, I'm glad I didn't actually have to fight anyone and the killing scenes just kind of automatically played out. I was prepared to be frustrated and spend hours dying replaying. I do recognize it's kind of messed up to have them all die without much of a fight like that, it makes them seem so vulnerable ;-; Especially Toriel and Papyrus really trusted the player a lot. Sans' expression when he saw that Papyrus was killed really broke my heart. It's also pretty screwed up when I kissed Sans before killing only Undyne and Alphys.

The Sans fight even when played in "visual novel mode" was still challenging. I don't know if it was a 100% replica of his fight in the original UT, I only recognized some moves haha. But either way, I had to get a notebook and jotted down the options' order to win LOL. I have to say, the animation was really well done. RenPy is known for visual novels - which are normally quite static, so all the animated moves in Sans' fight was definitely a breath of fresh air (and definitely a skele-TON of efforts was put in).

The way you reused some famous lines Sans said during the fight, while also adding some tailor-made lines about soulmates was great too.

The order I played - until the time of this review - was True love (many times) => Secret route (twice) => True love (again because why not) => True LOVE (once) => True love (twice because...I wanted to confirm Sans actually gets killed...gosh) => Secret route (twice) => True LOVE (again because I wanted to see if anything's changed).

With that said, on the 1st True LOVE run, Sans mentioned how once upon a time we used to be soulmates - quite a lot of times, and it made me feel really bad orz. I kept thinking in my head "i don't want this either why am i doing this" T_T When he dragged himself away at the end (to die off screen), the last thing he said was calling the player's name, then asking "why...?". I admit, it was like I got punched in the guts T_T

Sans rarely refers to the player by name, if I remember correctly, he only did so at the end of the True love (happy) route, True LOVE and well, True love (the fcked up version when Chara possessed the player's SOUL). Because these moments are so rare, whenever he does so, it really hits hard.

Gosh, when the player/Chara stabbed him, he only called the player's name like "[insertname]......?" with that look of betrayal akldkjfgls argh T_T I feel like that left a scar in my heart now. And that was AFTER he knew the player killed him in another timeline and decided to forgive. It's like, he really loves the player so he's willing to look past their sins, but he was stabbed again right after that...

I gotta say, I'm surprised Chara did not kill the rest of the monsters. I kind of expected that to happen. I replayed Papyrus' route to see if he'd get killed, but surprisingly he lived? It's so unfair Sans is the only one who got killed by Chara adjfkls wait what am i even saying i shouldn't wish for others' deaths.

Also, when playing the Papyrus' route again after acquiring the True LOVE ending, it seems Sans didn't shake the player's hand anymore when Papyrus told him we were on a date? Is it because the player/Chara betrayed/killed him before in the True love ending so he didn't bother anymore orz...

Anyway, on the 2nd run of True LOVE, I realized there was a lack of some lines mentioning the player and Sans' past connection as soulmates. He also did not call the player's name when he died either. I'm not sure if that was because I was on my 2nd True LOVE run, or because I did Papyrus' route right before that so technically we weren't recognized as soulmates in the past. It was an interesting change nonetheless.

I was impressed with how you created the Chara scene also: a dark void, had to wait a little bit before the dialogue to give up my SOUL appears. The Flowey scene when it absorbed both mine and Sans' SOULs was also great. I kept Alt+F4 the game to interrupt its dialogue LOL. Basically, the little variations (4th wall breaking) here and there depending on the number of playthroughs and the player's actions really preserved that original UT vibe. I think at some point Flowey mentioned I used the SKIP function 84 times, was it a random number or actually counted LOL?

Onto happier things, I really love the epilogue of napping under the "stars" with Sans. The only problem (pls don't hate me I know you worked hard): it's too short ;-; I would've loved to see more of what life with Sans is like, since he's pretty well-known in the Underground and all, how would people-- I mean, other monsters react if the player keeps sticking around him. I wanted to exercise in his room too (on the treadmill of course...), and go to his workshop and all xDD Basically, the game was so good and I want moar ;-;

I think that's enough of my rambling...on the writing - sorry if my review's a mess ;-; Moving on to...

The graphics: I think you mentioned somewhere on Twitter that you were more of a coder than an artist, but the art is honestly really nice. I love all the CGs, items and character sprites (I'm not sure if you did the backgrounds yourself orz, they look like they were taken straight from the original game, but if you did, wow). I especially love the sprites. They really radiate each character's personality, the proportions, expressions and all are really close to the original pixel ones in UT. Flowey's expressions were so well done, that little twist of pain on its face when its petals were plucked in the True LOVE ending, definitely a nice touch. Papyrus and Undyne's expressions when they knew the player likes Sans were priceless LOL. Sans' expressions were great too, his nonexistent face muscles didn't move much, but slight changes could really change the emotion he depicted. The light effects and little animations such as flying cape, twinkling/blinking eyes were nice additions too. Did I mention the annoying(ly cute) dog wagging its tail?! That was adorable! Really, many games don't have those details. They really bring the characters to life!

The system: I love that you coded in a system to prevent the player from taking existing characters' names (like Chara, Frisk, Sans etc). I mean, it's not ground-breaking because that's how it is in the original game, but to replicate such features still takes a certain amount of effort. It really shows how you are attentive to details like that. Same goes for the variations on different playthroughs, special scenes with Chara and Flowey that I've mentioned before. The aptly named save files were interesting (and kind of funny too LOL). The hidden section in the Album was...well I can't say nice because it hurts to look... but you certainly did a good job! My curiosity for the last (4th) CG in Sans' section of the Album really killed the cat (and literally everyone else)...

The UI: There's not much to say, except that it's punderful. The design and fonts reflected UT's style perfectly! Being able to drag the textbox and have options changing places during Sans' fight was a great idea too. Varying text speeds for certain lines also had a good effect on controlling the game's flow!

The music and sound: I feel like it's not punny to keep saying things are punderful, but allow me to say it again: punderful. The tracks accompany the scenes so well, I especially ADORE the slower, sadder ones that play when the player interacts with Sans. It seems you had a hand in the making of certain music tracks as well, that's pretty awesome considering you already coded AND drew art for the game!

Overall, I have nothing but love for this game, and I can feel your love in the project too! Thank you for making it! If there ends up being an expansion or sequel (?) of some sort, I'd definitely support you!

A little side note, Doki Doki Literature Club SPOILERS to please stop reading if you're uncomfortable--

--

I was kind of expecting the epilogue with Sans to have more dialogue, like, he's always there when the player opens the game (unless the game is RESET somehow), and he'll say different things each time - in a punny and romantic way...not creepy and yandere-ish LOL (if that happens i wouldn't mind cuz i'm a simp but would such characteristics fit him omg). Basically, kind of like that Monika scene near the end of DDLC. I know I have too much expectations for the epilogue but I just don't want it to end orz ;-;

Other than that, I just want to say again I'm impressed with your coding skills in RenPy. It really feels like you can create a mind-blowing original project with concepts similar to Undertale or DDLC, not a clone or fangame, but like a truly original game with...that files/system manipulation and 4th-wall breaking thing.

Again, I'm sorry if my review is messy and my English (as a second language) gives you a bone to pick with me...

(5 edits) (+2)

Thank you so much for playing and for taking the time to review! And no no, your review is not a mess and your English is just fine! I'm so happy that you enjoyed the VN and that you were able to catch the little details I put in! ^^

SPOILERS !!

I'm really happy to hear that it feels close to the original UT spirit; I was striving for that! And I'm glad you caught the repeated phrases. Especially "cause someone really cares about you" and how it turns into "cause i really care about you" to explicitly refer to himself. In a way, that's him finally admitting and committing to how he feels about you. He's accepting his own feelings.  :3

Honestly, I felt so bad writing that whole "cheating" part for the secret Papyrus route. But that's something that a jerk like Flowey would say. x_x

Also, I can answer why you weren't seeing Sans shake the player's hand or Sans not mentioning the past connection of SOULmates during your second run.  When you finish True LOVE the first time, Chara completely wipes out all of those connections. And even if you try to do True Love again, you don't actually complete it because Chara/the player kills Sans, thus stopping True Love from completing. So because of that, it's like you were never Sans' SOULmate and you can never become his SOULmate again.

The number for the SKIP function is actually counted.  XD  I coded a function that will count the number of times the player uses it. And I'm glad you were able to figure out that you had to drag the textbox to find the last FIGHT button! :D It always makes me happy when people are able to figure it out! I’m glad you liked the animations for the Sans fight, too! That was all done via Ren’Py’s ATL (animation and transformation language). In addition, if you were curious about the 4th Sans CG... then I did my job right.  =)

And I know the epilogue leaves so much. Trust me, I want to see more of what happens, too! But I felt, for Dating Start, that was the best place to end it. Your story with Sans is just beginning. And, when you leave that world, it's up to you regarding how you continue the story in your head... or in the game if you come back to RESET.

If you do come back, Sans realizes you might be there to RESET. And he accepts it and just goes back to sleep, awaiting whatever happens because he cannot control it.

I would love to make an original project one day! At the same time, I want to make more Undertale VNs, too! (Maybe a bit shorter, but we'll see where my imagination takes me!)

Thank you again for your wonderful words and for playing the VN. I'm glad it warmed your heart with love.

Edit: Oh! I also forgot to mention! The backgrounds are straight out of the game. ^^; But I used the tilesets from the game to make new backgrounds like Papyrus' maze.

*beep bop* SPOILERS ---

Haha yeah the "cheating" talk really fits Flowey's personality. At least it didn't seem to leave any consequences. I mean it'd be interesting (and hurtful...) to see if Sans can "detect" that the player has the expression of someone who cheated on him with his brother. That'd really take the whole timeline and consequences to another level @_@

That detail about the True LOVE route preventing the player and Sans from becoming SOULmates, it makes so much sense! Which means all the more reason for me not to go the True LOVE route ever again orzz. I've seen Sans die 4 times already (and also got told to go to hell by him countless times...) so that's about enough. Thankfully I backup all save files before doing the True LOVE route ^^"

I want to ask though - and I don't mind spoilers since I'm asking for it: if I were to spare/have mercy on Sans during his fight, would I getttt dunked on LOL? I'm curious but I don't really want to follow my curiosity anymore.

That's pretty cool how you have a function for counting SKIPs xD I didn't realize I'd used it so many times. Considering all the things you have to take note of in this game, I guess that means a lot of functions and variables are needed.

The textbox dragging idea was cool xD I think the hints you put in were well-written as well. Same goes for that maze with Papyrus!

It always saddens me that Sans just kind of accepts the fact that all the things he did and anything that happened to him can easily be RESET. I mean, ye it's true there's nothing he can do about it, he's literally just an NPC lmao, but the fact that he's written as if he's aware of it really messes with the player's mind. That's why I have this special place in my heart for games that break the 4th wall haha.

Btw, I just realized I forgot to ask this yesterday. That bridge scene where Sans saves the player, if "Compliment" was chosen instead of kissing him, he'd have a line telling the player not to "get too close to the edge". I thought it meant to not be involved in dangerous situations, but the player's reaction was "feeling the stomach drop" and a "tight smile" as if they're uncomfortable. Did his line allude to something else? Like "don't go on a killing spree bruh" or something...

I also forgot to mention that I love how the phone's outline color changes depending on which trait was chosen by the player! But it seems sentences where the trait is specifically mentioned (in yellow text) can be skipped even though that trait was not chosen before?

For example: "your SOUL is pulsing strong with [trait]" - sentences like these are skipped even when that trait is newly chosen compared to previous playthroughs. It seems RenPy treats this as the same sentence even though the content (trait variable) is changed?

It feels kinda weird because some sentences - which are completely identical to each other - cannot be skipped, such as (if I recall correctly) some "hmmm..." and "you reached LV something" that Sans said before his boss fight. I've seen this behavior in some other VNs before too so I just find it kind of interesting.

All in all, I'm definitely looking forward to your future projects! ^^

(1 edit) (+1)

SPOILER SPOILERS!!!

LOL Yes, you would have absolutely been dunked on. XD  Both during midpoint Mercy and end fight Mercy.

And when it comes to variables, there was definitely.... a number. Let's just say... I had to take note of 200+ variables. It was quite the collection. x_x  I had a page dedicated to setting the defaults of those variables. If I didn't have that, I think I'd be so lost. Even with the list of variables, I got lost a few times! XD

When Sans says "not to get too close to the edge," he means not to get too close to him that you fall (in romantic/platonic love). That's why the player feels uncomfortable because they feel Sans' being reserved. The main dynamic change for Sans was from reserved to open with his emotions/feelings.  <3  (Honestly, I'm a huge Sans simp and  I wanted to make a VN so I could fall in love with him. Then I wanted to share that experience with everyone else XD)

In regards to the lines with the SOUL traits, yes. Ren'Py will still see that line as seen, even if the variable within has changed. However, for moments where Sans talks about the expression or the LV, I made sure for each instance to have its own line. This way, if the player was skipping, it wouldn't skip past that. For player experience, it made more sense to stop the player at those blocks of dialogue than to stop the player for one single line with a different SOUL trait.

Thank you so much for all of your questions and for taking the time to comment! And thank you for playing! It really means a lot that you've enjoyed the VN!  ;n;

(+1)

Ah I understand now! I actually love that kind of dynamic/change from cold to hot in relationships xD It's a great feeling to be able to break through someone's defense and reach for their heart.

Thank you for spending your time answering my questions too! It's great insight into how the game was developed, and it's clear that a lot of love was put in! Other Sans simps (like me) really appreciate your work xD

(+1)

Sooo uhhh I really really loved this VN. I've known Undertale for years (though I haven't played yet) and this VN was the one that got me into the original game. Sans is officially my favourite character now. I really can't stop looking up info or content about him. And for a whole week I can't seem to stop myself from replaying the game over and over, just lookimg for every possibility and reliving the best moments over and over.

SPOILERS

I really can't bring myself to break my promise to Sans to reset or to do Papyrus' route so what I did was that after getting the true love ending, I actually copied a copy of the roaming files and put it somewhere safe, in my mind that was me preserving my true ending so it's as if in that timeline, I never resetted as promised and Sans is happy always.

But ofcourse I still continued on with the rest of the game and I was able to finish all the routes. I have uninstalled and installed the game over and over again and I mixed the orders of pursuing the routes as well. Needless to say I had a lot of fun and tears with this game.

And the music? Spot on. Simply spot on. I loved them in every scene. Though my favourite use of it would be during Papyrus' route where Sans shakes the player's hand and the glockenspiel version of It's raining somewhere else plays. That scene was just so bittersweet. Also every romantic scene with sans? Beautiful. Just so beautiful. What I do now is that I just open the game and play the ost while I type my requirements in school.

Just another thing to note though, the true love corridor scene in a true love run but after fighting sans but not meeting chara got to me the most. Before, that lovely scene that was supposed to be sweet was so sad to me when it became tainted after I did a true LOVE run and meeting Chara. I was really so horrified. I mean, I was happy that despite knowing what the player did sans still forgave the player, so the betrayal traumatized me. But then I uninstalled and cleaned everything to start anew. This time I did the true LOVE route first, then resetted. I was surprised though that Flowey was mad. That never happened before. But then I did the true love run again and when it got to the true love corridor scene again I was so anxious because I was afraid to see the betrayal. I was still so moved by sans' forgiveness and unwavering love, but then shockingly, the player didn't kill him. I was actually so surprised and relieved. I resetted and did a redo of the route to see if this was an error but still, even if the dialogue said that sans knew the player killed him, he was still not killed. I was so relieved. Even after doing the no love run, I felt that this was the best ending. It was as if the player had a change of heart and sans out of his love forgave the player. To me it made the ending better because it showed just how deeply sans felt for the player that he was willing to forgive and forget, and they get their happy ending. Really after seeing the betrayal, I was so horrified, so expecting it and not seeing it happen was a good surprise for me. It truly felt that sans accepted everything and the player's change of heart was sincere. I only realized yesterday that the reason he wasn't killed though was because I resetted after killing sans so I never got to sell my soul to Chara, lol. Yeaaahhh that definitely made the ending better for me. And the fact that it was an accident really was the cherry in top. So yeah this game lives in my heart rent free.

Thank you!! And thank you for playing! I’m so happy to hear my VN had that effect on you! I truly wanted this to be a love letter to the game and to Sans, so to know that you grew to care about the world makes me happy. :)

SPOILERS!!

I’m really glad you liked my music choices. I truly believe that music is its own separate character that helps move the story, and the player. And funny enough, the glockenspiel version of “It’s Raining Somewhere Else” was one of the few tunes in the VN I actually made myself. :)

If you’ve updated the VN to v1.0.1, the hyperlinks for some of the songs are corrected, so if you click the blue song title, you’ll be taken to the source (YouTube, SoundCloud, etc.) of who made it!

LOL yes, if you manage to quit before you encounter Flowey or see Chara, then Flowey will be mad at you for resetting and you’ll still have control of your SOUL... meaning that you won’t betray Sans in True Love.

However, in both that change of dialogue and the CG Album, the remnants of what happened will remain.

SPOILERS

Oh yeah, I also forgot to say that the epilogue was something else to. Sooo is my assumption correct that when Sans asks the player to go back to sleep then pauses and says instead that he'll be there...that's the point that he realized that a reset is possible? Idk if it is, but if it was...man, the guy has so much patience amd understanding to be at peace with another possible reset. Which...is another thing I loved about Sans. Alsooo after so many replays. It only hit me now that the echo flower actually blurted the secret code word! Ahhh it has hidden in plain sight all along!!!

SPOILERS !!

Yes, upon reopening, Sans feels the player's SOUL and realizes that it's possible that the player is here to RESET.  And at that point, he has accepted it, even though it hurts him.  And yes!  During Act One, the echo flower blurts out one of Sans' codewords.  It's not the codeword that he ultimately tells you to repeat back to him.  However, it's foreshadowing to him telling you one in the future once he trusts you.  :)

LOL it’s quite the dilemma, whether to go back and kill everyone or not. Well, whatever you decide, Sans will be right there.  :)

!SPOILERS!

I just have a question about how to get the secret route ending with Papyrus? I just keep getting Flowey telling me that he's surprised I keep choosing him haha. Or is that the ending??

Thank you so much for playing!!  :D  I’m glad you enjoyed!

!! SPOILERS !!

Yes, that’s the ending for the secret Papyrus route.  There isn’t any variations other than that since it’s meant to be like an easter egg secret route.  ^^;

I just finished playing the game and all I can say is... It's beautiful. You did a wonderful job at capturing the original atmosphere. The dialogue, the scenes, the sprites, the music... It all fit together so very well. Emotionally, this felt like playing Undertale for the first time. All throughout, I couldn't keep the smile off my face. I just felt so warm and fuzzy! And at the end, I nearly cried a little (but in a good way. This is normal, right...?)

Thank you, truly, for making this game. This was the remedy I didn't know I needed. I wish you the absolute best. Take care!💖

Thank you so much for playing and for taking the time to comment! It means a lot that you think that of my little passion project. :) And I'm so glad the emotions reached you! (I may have gotten emotional myself while developing the VN. ^^;)

I wish you all the best! Stay determined! 💜
