Among Us 2


Hi everyone! Time for a big post!

First of all, thanks so much for playing and enjoying Among Us. It's been crazy to see how much more popular Among Us could be than we ever imagined.

Second of all, yes. We're confirming Among Us 2. This post is all about what that means and why we're doing it.

First and Most Important

Among Us 1 servers will stay alive for as long as it has enough players to start games. When we first started, we found that players couldn't really play when the servers had fewer than 30 - 50 players per hour. But lately we have 70,000 - 110,000 per hour. We'd be crazy to shut off the servers on you in 2021! And even if Among Us 2 gets lots of players, we'll just run both at the same time. If Among Us 1 servers shut down, I will open source the code so players can run servers instead.

But why a sequel?

Among Us 1 has been out over two years. It started as a tiny local-multiplayer-only game and has grown and grown and grown. Online multiplayer took 2 months and a total rework to make happen, then 6 months per extra map, and horrible server growing pains along the way. It really was not created to be this big. Because of this, it's extremely hard to add more things without breaking existing things. Frankly, it's terrifying to add in more things because the game is so fragile. Fixing this would require recreating core sections of Among Us, then making sure everything else still works on top. It's actually even harder than just making a new game.

So the first goal of Among Us 2 is to be made to withstand growth. We want to add to it at least as long as Among Us, but with fewer bugs along the way.

What will be in Among Us 2?

Well, first, we plan to basically include Among Us 1 in some capacity. Don't expect us to drag and drop all three maps directly over, but we think it's important to keep the simple play of Among Us with crewmates and impostors. But do expect some new options and balance tweaks. For example, we know very well that 3 impostor needs more than 10 players to be balanced, so 12-15 player games is a goal.

Second, we know that hide and seek is a very popular mode, but it is tough to find or exclude those games. Expect matchmaking to work very differently to better support custom modes and skill levels.

Also, we know that forming groups and making friends is tough. Accounts and friends will be in Among Us 2 straight out of the gate.

Better moderation: We know that hacking, bad behaviour, and toxic language is a problem in Among Us 1 and we definitely don't like it. But we never had the tools to really combat it effectively as a three person team, so expect Among Us 2 to launch with fewer hacks, a report button, moderators, etc.

But we've always known that the thing that would really make Among Us 2 unique from Among Us 1 is more roles. We aren't far enough in the design to confirm any roles or how they will work, but the primary addition for Among Us 2 is more complexity than just Crewmate vs Impostor. This should add a lot more replayability to the game and we're excited to see how we can shake things up for more advanced players.

We have a lot of other things we know players want to see, and a lot of surprises in store as well. So we definitely think Among Us 2 will be worthy sequel. That said, we want to get people playing it quickly, so we will probably start small in Early Access so we can grow Among Us 2 with player feedback. But the above is some of the key bare minimums before we launch at all.

Will it cost extra?

Yes, but.

We know a lot of players just started playing Among Us 1 which makes it look like we're quickly moving to a sequel, so we're going to try carry over some stuff from Among Us 1. We haven't confirmed that we can do any of this yet, but we might:

  • Launch with a discount coupon for Among Us 1 owners on Steam.
  • Keep Among Us 2 Mobile free but with (removable) ads.
  • Have free big content updates like maps and game modes. We're not making that mistake again.
  • Have in-game currency so we can break up big cosmetic bundles and let people buy/earn just the things they want. 

When will it come out?

We really do not know at all. We just started planning. There is no art, programming or sound done at all. For the record Among Us took about 6 months to enter open beta (early access) and 6 more months to leave open beta. Among Us 2 will probably take at least as long to enter open beta, and will probably spend longer there.

Unlike Among Us 1, we expect to make Among Us 2 for PC first, then port to mobile. This will let us focus on making a great game faster because updates can come out in minutes on PC, where mobile can take hours or even days.

So basically

We're super hype to start Among Us 2. It'll take a while, but we'll make sure it's worth it. We hope you'll stick around to see what we can do.

Oh, also, we're launching merch on Friday August 21 at 12 PM (Noon, PST). Everything is on pre-order, but there will be shirts and a plush crewmate. The best places to hear when it launches are on Discord and our mailing list, but we'll do our best to get the word out.

Make a mini game mode that is a hardcore hide and seek lights off imposters that gonna find the hiders have to get ppl and kill them before the life bar go down and they got 10 sec when it goes down and when the timer runs out he drop an extra key they respawns after 45 sec the imposters and the hiders have to find keys to escape away and win they will have to search drawers under ,beds ,in a sink and lockers a d each 1 got a mini game like when u do a task the sink clean everything a d search they open the water and the water gonna be gray colored and the keys gonna be yellow covered in trash not much trash coverd it the locker opens a bag and search under bed get a flashlight to see the keys if they are under and if the and there is 3 doors or 4 or more just for the imposters not to camp the doors and to kill them there is gonna be an animation on the screen like when they kill u in normal game among us 1 but it's only in among us 2 and hardcore hide and seek when they kill they got a delay to move around if until the animation ends to kill and there is a timer 10 mins if the timer ends the hiders lose a d imposters win hope u all dev read this it took along time to type without a keyboard on mobile cuz my PC ram is broken oof

Buddy 1. Not everyone knows how to use boot camp. 2. Not everyone has 30GB+ of space on their HDD/SSD for Windows 10, plus Steam, plus the game. 3. Not everyone wants to pay $129 for Windows 10 to play a $5 game. 4. It would be easier for the developer to port it to Mac than make many other people boot camp their Macs to run Windows 10. Finally 5. Don't call people stupid, it makes you sound ignorant and rude, he/she was just stating a question/suggestion for a Mac version.

Part one works like a native game via proton. I assume among us 2 will as well. As I deem it unlikely to have some weird custom launcher or a shitty anti cheat, which is what breaks most games on wine.

can we send in ideas for the art I have a few ideas and I was hoping too share like maybe since I read you said in game currency posible a store with a bunch of different skins like for the colors such as neon texture or crayon idk something like that

They should add voice chat (microphones): suppose you press the meeting button, well, you can choose whether or not to activate your microphone to debate (if there are problems there will be the expulsion or ban button for insults, etc) the ghosts can only speak With other ghosts, can I explain? I think most want a well done voice chat to get out of the chat as I have seen many vote yes and do not discuss anything they could also use this, good game and I look forward to Among Us 2.

 I doubt that anyone would read this but just the possibility makes it worth the time.

TOPIC: General - I would suggest to have some sort of punishment for leaving early, people like to leave early because they don't get the role they want. I love the idea of having a shop and earning credits through quests/missions/tasks to get cosmetics. I also love the idea of different game modes such as hide and seek as well as competitive gameplay. I feel that this game could handle much more because it has grown fairly fast and if well maintained, can be something big.

TOPIC: Features -   I also love the idea of adding more features for both the imposter and crewmates instead of adding more roles because that makes the game less simple and harder to work with and just losses the classic murder mystery feel. What I mean by adding more features is like using your vote to revive a player instead of voting to kill someone, they can no longer talk when revived because they can easily say who the imposter is, so they will be muted but they will have immunity until there is an emergency meeting and/or body reported. And for the imposters you can add disguise buttons that can make them turn into a prop. Now items around the map will change every report/emergency meeting to make the tool more useful. I would also recommend making another tracking system for crewmates that they could utilize to try to figure out who the imposter is. If you don't know what I'm talking about I am talking about the vitals screen on the computer, admin room and cameras. These are all things crewmates can use to help them and I would suggest adding one that is like admin but instead of tracking how many people are in a room at one time, you can see the color of the person anywhere they are, but only in fragments of 5 seconds, if you aren't on the board you are either dead or in a vent. 

TOPIC: Rooms - Make the rooms themselves more fun. Make a party room where people can chill and test out new features. Make maps that are interactive such as unlocking a different part of the map through tasks that allows more accessible things/clues. I would also suggest adding a quick match tool if you just want a fast game no matter the rules. I would also add things such as elevators and stairs to go to different levels of a map. Also maybe even a tube that is clear that is on the ceiling that people can crawl through to get to places faster, or maybe even just a slide/teleportation device that takes you from one end of the map to another. 

TOPIC: RNG - I was thinking that there could be an option before entering a game that you can enter an RNG system depending on what you chose, so for example, there are 2 RNG machines, RNG 1 and RNG 2. Now if u wanted to be an imposter u would click imposter, so you are entered in twice for RNG 2 and once for RNG 1, same goes for crewmates. Previous mention:  I feel that this game could handle much more because it has grown fairly fast and if well maintained, can be something big. Also, having fairer RNG machines for imposter chances. What I mean by this is like I said before people like to leave early because they don't get the role they want, this can be taken care of by a reputation or point system that is required to play in certain game modes or to be certain roles. This also could be used to make a hidden RNG balancer to make the game seem more fair, people often get mad because they don't get imposter often enough or that they are bad at lying and are bad at imposter and just want to be apart of the crew, these people can anonymously vote before the round starts what they would like to be, and then you have 2 separate RNG systems (or more depending on what roles there are) running in the background. Now, there needs to be more balance, lets say everyone wants to be imposter or vice versa, there needs to be an override system that reduces the RNG score to players that have previously already had that role to even out the playing field and give everyone a chance to be what they want which makes the game more fun and interactive. 

TOPIC: Interactive items/emotes - I would also suggest adding emotes to celebrate at the end of matches, and adding tools/items that can be picked up and carried around that can be useful such as adding an override/failsafe for a sabotage or placing a scanner in a desired location that tracks/notifies you when people pass by it. Or maybe even having a key like I said before about adding extra rooms, there can be a key to find that opens the doors or something like that. 

TOPIC: Crewmates - Make being a crewmate more fun and interactive, I feel that majority of people want to be imposter and find it not fun going around doing chores instead of playing the role of an adrenaline educing, heart racing, manipulative mutant that can basically control the map. 

TOPIC: Extras - I love the idea of a shop where you can buy cosmetics and other items such as an override imposter card that makes you imposter no matter what or just simply earn in game currency buy completing missions/quests/tasks such as "Get 4 kills as imposter in one match" or "vote out the imposter correctly on your first attempt of a game" or "Kill a crewmember and emote on their body" and these can all have names such as the first one can be called "Show them who's boss" and the second one can be "Lucky duck" and the third can be "Back stabber" and all of these depending on the level of difficulty can be rewarded with points. 

TOPIC: Voice chat - The game would be much more fun if there was a default voice chat, whether it's proximity or regular there needs to be a voice chat. There can also still be a chat for those who don't have a mic because some mics require a certain jack that can't be used by mobile users or people just don't have one in general. I would make two game modes  for one with voice chat and one without because it is an unfair advantage for those who don't have mics because it is slower for them to defend themselves or accuse others. But it is really good for those who have one so it should be added in the game. Another thing is that imposters should have their own imposter chat so they can coordinate sabotages or mass killings, such as when they go into a group of people and there is an even amount of imposters and crewmates and simultaneously all the imposters kill at the same time, that is a mass killing. It would be easier to plan with their own private chat. NOT a voice chat because that would be too obvious but a typing chat only for imposters that people can access IN GAME.

Here are my feature suggestions to the new game!

Crouch - Players now can crouch (imposters and crewmates)! Players can use this to hide from the imposter and the imposter can use this to kill people without getting seen.

Traps - The imposter can place traps on machines (for example the imposter can malfunction the med bay and if someone tries to use it they will explode or something)  or doors. Anyone can dismount them but if they dont see the traps (which are visible) they can get downed.

Revive/downed - You are still alive! Crewmates can be downed by traps or other things. Imposters and crewmates can revive the downed people, but if they are too late, they bleed out.

Disguise - The imposter can dress like the people he murdered. The imposter can use this as to hide the body or to make people think that the murdered person is the imposter.

Voice chat - The game needs voice chat. Thats it lmao.

Suggestions:

 Im just going to list some roles that imbalances the whole game any type of sleuth, Protector,1 player's vote count as two,person that can speak/revive dead and killer crewmate. Maybe add a jester? It ruins the "Oh 3+ of us are confirmed? Lets just vote everyone else thats not us" and "idk what im doing so letz just vote dis guy".

i don't know any other roles that can fix an imbalance


Jester can either do this one or that one

Appear randomly so its unpredictable or just a on/off button for jester

Instantly win by itself when voted off or Instantly win if voted off but can kill a person of their choosing(or just make it so that he can roam freely as a ghost and have a 1-time kill button)

and/or a time limit to prevent lessen grouping up preferably 20-45 mins.

as mentioned by others i feel liiek keeping the base game with just the imposters and crewmates same as the first among us is vital. With friends playing the first among us i absolutely love it as many others do. adding more roles would take waay to the simplicity of the game but adding more roles by adding different game modes is a different thing. im all for adding more roles but keeping the classic or original roles is vital in my opinion. connectivity is also a bit of a problem but as mentioned you plan of fixing that. adding different tasks to do as well as involving the keyboard for pc users in the puzzles you do for tasks would also be rather interesting i feel.

Wow, muy buen juego la verdad, pero yo rengo una conexión mala y no puedo estar mucho tiempo dentro de los servers, así que no sé si lo que voy a decir será un poco tonto pero lo diré de igual manera, podrían añadir bots para jugar una partida offline, jaja suena loco pero sería especial que lo hicieran, una vez más reitero, muy buen juego sigan así.

so few things id like to note, love the idea of new roles. Imo, should be something optional so people can still play crewmate vs imposter if they don't like the addition to new roles. Theres alot of ideas you can work with on that and im hoping to learn more on the ideas you want to use! I havent looked into the hide and seek mode youre talking about but judging on how self explanatory it is, id love to see a game mode for it and to have objects to hide behind, in or under for the seeker(s) to hunt for. Looking forward to among us 2, and will continue enjoying the first!

Pls add a function to connect to a IP in local mode (and the port that's neccesary)

think of it like kinecraft servers, I guess. You have the big servers like mine plex but you also have individuals that run servers that people can play on. Say the game dies out by next year, what they are saying is they will alow people to use the game themselves and host their servers, thus making it where they dont have to pay to keep servers open that are empty and the people that still want to play are able to.
