Among Us 2

Hi everyone! Time for a big post!

First of all, thanks so much for playing and enjoying Among Us. It's been crazy to see how much more popular Among Us could be than we ever imagined.

Second of all, yes. We're confirming Among Us 2. This post is all about what that means and why we're doing it.

First and Most Important

Among Us 1 servers will stay alive for as long as it has enough players to start games. When we first started, we found that players couldn't really play when the servers had fewer than 30 - 50 players per hour. But lately we have 70,000 - 110,000 per hour. We'd be crazy to shut off the servers on you in 2021! And even if Among Us 2 gets lots of players, we'll just run both at the same time. If Among Us 1 servers shut down, I will open source the code so players can run servers instead.

But why a sequel?

Among Us 1 has been out over two years. It started as a tiny local-multiplayer-only game and has grown and grown and grown. Online multiplayer took 2 months and a total rework to make happen, then 6 months per extra map, and horrible server growing pains along the way. It really was not created to be this big. Because of this, it's extremely hard to add more things without breaking existing things. Frankly, it's terrifying to add in more things because the game is so fragile. Fixing this would require recreating core sections of Among Us, then making sure everything else still works on top. It's actually even harder than just making a new game.

So the first goal of Among Us 2 is to be made to withstand growth. We want to add to it at least as long as Among Us, but with fewer bugs along the way.

What will be in Among Us 2?

Well, first, we plan to basically include Among Us 1 in some capacity. Don't expect us to drag and drop all three maps directly over, but we think it's important to keep the simple play of Among Us with crewmates and impostors. But do expect some new options and balance tweaks. For example, we know very well that 3 impostor needs more than 10 players to be balanced, so 12-15 player games is a goal.

Second, we know that hide and seek is a very popular mode, but it is tough to find or exclude those games. Expect matchmaking to work very differently to better support custom modes and skill levels.

Also, we know that forming groups and making friends is tough. Accounts and friends will be in Among Us 2 straight out of the gate.

Better moderation: We know that hacking, bad behaviour, and toxic language is a problem in Among Us 1 and we definitely don't like it. But we never had the tools to really combat it effectively as a three person team, so expect Among Us 2 to launch with fewer hacks, a report button, moderators, etc.

But we've always known that the thing that would really make Among Us 2 unique from Among Us 1 is more roles. We aren't far enough in the design to confirm any roles or how they will work, but the primary addition for Among Us 2 is more complexity than just Crewmate vs Impostor. This should add a lot more replayability to the game and we're excited to see how we can shake things up for more advanced players.

We have a lot of other things we know players want to see, and a lot of surprises in store as well. So we definitely think Among Us 2 will be worthy sequel. That said, we want to get people playing it quickly, so we will probably start small in Early Access so we can grow Among Us 2 with player feedback. But the above is some of the key bare minimums before we launch at all.

Will it cost extra?

Yes, but.

We know a lot of players just started playing Among Us 1 which makes it look like we're quickly moving to a sequel, so we're going to try carry over some stuff from Among Us 1. We haven't confirmed that we can do any of this yet, but we might:

  • Launch with a discount coupon for Among Us 1 owners on Steam.
  • Keep Among Us 2 Mobile free but with (removable) ads.
  • Have free big content updates like maps and game modes. We're not making that mistake again.
  • Have in-game currency so we can break up big cosmetic bundles and let people buy/earn just the things they want.

When will it come out?

We really do not know at all. We just started planning. There is no art, programming or sound done at all. For the record Among Us took about 6 months to enter open beta (early access) and 6 more months to leave open beta. Among Us 2 will probably take at least as long to enter open beta, and will probably spend longer there.

Unlike Among Us 1, we expect to make Among Us 2 for PC first, then port to mobile. This will let us focus on making a great game faster because updates can come out in minutes on PC, where mobile can take hours or even days.

So basically

We're super hype to start Among Us 2. It'll take a while, but we'll make sure it's worth it. We hope you'll stick around to see what we can do.

Oh, also, we're launching merch on Friday August 21 at 12 PM (Noon, PST). Everything is on pre-order, but there will be shirts and a plush crewmate. The best places to hear when it launches are on Discord and our mailing list, but we'll do our best to get the word out.

Just an idea, tasks where you watch an ad? That’s the only way I could see this game have ads on mobile.

you could ad ads in between rounds/on the home screen on the side when menu's are up. And even just an ad bar when there is discussion time.

Well the problem with that is an ad might disrupt the actual game... though there could just a gag ad for a task that anyone could get, just a "Coming Soon- Among us 2~ (updates, one day)"

(+1)

In Among Us 1 the ads are between rounds, but this sometimes gets really annoying for the host

(+2)

I am on linux and my only hope is that the anti cheat doesn't fuck over linux users, yea I could play on mobile but gosh darn do I love playing on pc and also I type 3x faster on pc than mobile

This would be so cool as a strech goal also is your rebuilding the whole game keeping in mind you easy want to ad stuff then mods are kinda in the same line.

I’m really excited!

I have often felt there should be an option for impostors to be able to see where everyone is on the map by opening their map. Impostors need that help in some maps so it can just be an option for players to enable.

(+4)

nah. I think its ballenced rn. its possible to accadentally kill off your partner in a 10 person game and get every single kill

and also that would be WAY too much information, you would know if someone was safe to kill or not.

(+2)

And the Among Us 2 have some system only to moderators to check if someone is pirating the game or like this?

(1 edit) (+1)(-3)

2 roles that would be great to add is medic and detective. Now that there's 12-15 players, these roles are much more easier to add. For example; Game of 15, 2 impostors, 1 detective, 1 medic and  11 innocents. The detective can witness a killing, and kill an impostor instantly, however everyone will be noticed. However they could also report a body, and decide to inspect a player, or kill them. Killing the wrong player causes both the player and detective to die.

For the Medic if they find a body first they can choose either to revive or report, they can also med scan(Not actual task) where it can show that they're the medic.

Now that there's 2 roles to buff the crewmate side, the impostors also need a buff, Though i'm not sure myself, the best option is to provide other ways to kill players, for example traps, but limit them to prevent trapping, along with having other impostors susceptible to the raps, forcing them to work together.

Sorry about this long thread, just wanna help out with his game :)

(-1)

They could make impostors able to shape shift. so when they kill a player they can steal their color and  username. But you can only shape shift one time per impostor. so its not too op

(+1)

That wouldn't be very useful for voice chat games, since you can hear others voices. Take for example Project Winter's disguise system.

(1 edit) (+1)

Maybe they could make it to where they could kill, and they take that persons body for about 5 seconds for a quick get away. And the body is gone for those 5 seconds

(1 edit)

And you have to make sure you're not seen transforming or transforming back into your real person. Because if you're seen it's basically over for you

(+1)

And i think another good option is for when an impostor looks on the map they can see where their partner is so they're not just looking for them the whole game

Yes there is going to be more players, but thats to help balance 3 imposter games, primarily. That detictive system would be much better than... some of the other ones ive heard, and the medic- thinks for a second... well...they would only have a certain amount of time to revive someone... but that eliminates those kills in the dark when everyones in a group, or any other sly imposter killing that i oh so enjoy~ so i wouldn't think that would ever come to fruition, but that detective idea is plausible

(+1)

Medic would be WAY too op bc the revived person would know who the Imposter is.

(-1)

A suggestion A detective that can revial anyones role known but he can only do it to one person per 2 voteing times so it's not over powered he can do tasks and be killed like a cruemate with a special ability to be special but plus a target for the inpostor

yeah but if people want to play a standard 2 imposer, 10 total member game than the detetive has a 20% chance to get someone out off the bat, which isn't so fun, and that likelyhood of randomly discovering the imposter only goes up as the game progresses

(1 edit) (+2)

A suggestion, make a "Cop" i mean, if a cop see's a impostor killing, or just suspect, he can kill the man he's suspecting without needing to report a body or using emergency button. Like a impostor of good.

(+3)

Just some suggestions - don't make a different type of neutral role, like the "jester" in town of salem. Makes trollers and spammers have a better time, but I agree having different roles inside Impostor and crewmate is a great idea, maybe make it toggleable?

I would love game voice chat and i love your game keep it up guys!!

I'm a Mac user. This game is  hard to play on mobile. I wish the Among Us 2 would be in MacBook version too.

Well, ads must exist on free games, on mobile, on PC, there won't be ads, but in mobile, the only way to remove them is like paying, why ads though, well, people will pay the devs so they put advertising on the game, its the only way to get money in enough quantity

(+1)

Ok first of, free mobile games have ads for the devs to earn money. Unlike in the pc version that doesn't show ads, they have to charge you money instead to play the game.

Second, this is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. The "Free games with adverts are horrible and normally show bad quality" part. Think of what to say next time bud :)

(+1)

there are some games thatt are just ads...

but JEEZ, DO. NOT. PUT AMONG US IN THAT CATEGORY. its one of the first games where i dont care about the ads. If there was a button on the mentu to watch an ad, i would click it even if i got nothing.

(+1)

That is not my point. Read it more carefully. I am not going biassed towards Among Us having ads, I just explained how devs need ads to earn more money.

The part where he said "Free mobile games with ads are horrible and show bad quality" sounded like he was going against Among Us having ads. Of course I had to step up to explain to him.

Was the part you read from me the one in the second pharagraph? Bcuz I didn't say it, the other guy did.

(+2)

Honestly so excited to hear this, I just got the game recently and have been having a blast playing it, and it sounds like the few small issues I have had with it are going to be addressed in this sequel! More roles means more variety to game play, more players means potential for larger more chaotic groups, possibly more maps means even more variety, this is just what I wanted to hear!
There's 2 things that I would super duper love to see in a sequel though if you guys are interested in taking player ideas:
1. Player made maps, could be done on steam through the steam workshop, though I don't exactly know how you would make it work on other platforms. Modded maps in a game like this add SO much to the experience for me.
2. A built in voice chat system, whilst using discord does work, it would be nice to not have to explain to people every time they play for the first time that you have to mute during matches. It would just simplify the whole thing a little bit more.

(+4)

will our bought dlc transfer over? i don't wanna lose my bedcrab:( also,  good work on this game as well,  its a lot of fun!

(+2)

I'd be keen on this too.. bought 10 copies of the games for my friends and i and all the dlcs. Ended up dropping about $100 on it because i love this type of game and saw myself playing it a lot.

(+2)

homie deserves a friend of the year award after pulling that

(+1)

True! Also they probably will transfer over

well players will have accounts in Among Us 2- but accounts don't currently, and might not be ....able to be implemented into among us (1), as the game was never designed for that(which is the entire purpose of among us 2, to be built to last and expand upon), though i suppoossseee, you could submit a receipt from steam or whatnot to innersloth......those would just suck to go through, so you likely will not be able to transfer stuff, but i don't code, im just thinking logically

(+2)

Will we get more kill methods?

Traps would be epic.

looking forward to early access sign up (unless we just buy it in early access, in which case also keen for that)

I've been playing this for a long time and always wanted to tell you guys(the creators) how much I love this game.  I I always thought that it would be useful that when you report a dead body you could report the color as well. But I don't know your the ones making it not me just thought it would be cool if you could think about it.

That shows up in the report screeen, the color of the body you reported

Yeah but they still could show what body they reported. The game is still great tho.

Like in the “Who is The Impostor?” screen they could show the color

(+4)

Please add voice chat!! It sucks playing with typing in a voice necessary game

(+1)(-1)

discord works

(+1)

Not all randoms have discord

Some do, but doesn't invite you to join em in a call

Discord does work but native voice chat, and maybe even a mode with short proxy chat would be niiiice, you can't deny that

There are discord servers you can join.

Just got the game a few hours ago, I hope we do get a discount.  It's still fun though, can't wait for 2
