The Future of Among Us


Hey everyone, PuffballsUnited here! It’s been a very exciting time for us the past few months! We’ve absolutely loved seeing everyone enjoying Among Us! Forte has been working hard to get the servers adjusted to deal with the huge influx of players. Thank you so much for bearing with us through these growing pains. Hopefully we can get started on new content soon! Speaking of new content…

 

Us devs have had several long discussions about what we want to do with the game. When do we stop working on Among Us 1? What content goes into Among Us 2? The main reason we are shooting for a sequel is because the codebase of Among Us 1 is so outdated and not built to support adding so much new content. However, seeing how many people are enjoying Among Us 1 really makes us want to be able to support the game and take it to the next level. We have decided to cancel Among Us 2 and instead put all our focus into improving Among Us 1. All of the content we had planned for Among Us 2 will instead go into Among Us 1. This is probably the more difficult choice because it means going deep into the core code of the game and reworking several parts of it. We have lots of things planned and we’re excited to bring new content to everyone as you continue to enjoy playing!

 

Here’s some things that are coming on the horizon:

* Servers. Forte is still working very hard to figure out our server issues. We don’t have an ETA but things should hopefully be getting better and better. This is taking up all development time on his end.

* Colorblind support. It’s something we’ve put off for way too long… We plan on adding other identifiers for players as well as certain color focused tasks (Like wires). This should also open the potential for more colors. In the past we couldn’t add more colors because it became too difficult to tell players apart.

* Friends/Account System. This is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time but just haven’t been able to tackle. For the health of the game going forward we’re going to sink our teeth in and figure it out! This one will definitely take some time.

* A new stage! It is still very early and we have only just begun designing the layout. The theme has been settled on though! The next stage in Among Us is going to be a Henry Stickmin themed location!

We have LOTS of other things planned too, we just need to prioritize and organize all our plans. Stay tuned!

instead of making a whole new account system, wouldnt it be easier if you just be able to log in with google or steam? I dont know programming so Im probably wrong.

Probably going to happen. You literally just need to rebuild the game for MacBooks and publish it.

Unity has an option to export games on other platforms.

I dunno if it fits with your business model but releasing an executable for hosting a private server would be fantastic. I'd gladly host my own server for my friends and it would take a load off your infra.

there should be a "at least one impostor per hour guarantee" becacuse no joke, i have 35 hours in the game and have gotten impostor like 5 times

I think they should maintain Among Us typical graphic but more HD, like less pixelated. I love its style, but it would be nice imo

I have to disagree on this, some people have potato laptops like mine. An HD version may cause the game to lag.

Then they can add a graphic setting for the game. Seriously which potato cant handle this flash looking game?

I am using OpenGL 2.1 with Intel Graphics GMA4500MHD. This is on a Lenovo Thinkpad X200.

Playing it through Proton, Steam on Arch Linux and works fine!!!

Plz don't break the compatibility!

please make among us available on Mac, I bought it on steam only to realise it was only accessible for windows. I feel like is you wanted to expand your audience, making among us available on Mac is a great idea,

winebottler doesnt work, wine only supports directx9 and among us uses directx11

Ok, tengo una idea, en caso de querer implementar un sistema de cuenta, estaría bien que el sistema de cuentas sea mas tu ID pongo el ejemplo de las cuentas de discord Ejem: #1234, y que si quieres localizar  una cuenta que se use el ID no el nombre y que no influya para que no se pierda una de las cosa que hacen especial al juego de poder ponerte el nombre que tu quieras.

No hablan español (si tu no haces el esfuerzo a cambiarlo a ingles, porque deberian ellos?) y seria mejor dejar esto en su discord si les quieres darles ideas, aunque si esta chida la idea

I had a couple ideas for new roles for crewmates or imposters so here they r

The crewmate roles are

The Scientist- The scientist has a special class task that is in medbay which is a syringe. Every 1 minute and 30 seconds the scientist has access to a special syringe that can reveal if someone is an imposter or if they are innocent. It is a powerful asset to the crewmates but watch out as if you tell everyone the imposters know who you are as well.

The Captain- The captain has a special feature for his map that lets him see where everyone is on the map and can see if someone vents but he can't see what color they are. (Improved admin map thing) If anyone dies to an imposter a red flash will appear on the captain screen in the direction of the dead body but doesn’t say exactly where the body is. 

A Crewmate-The crewmate is the most basic of bois but I thought a change would be that while on the report/discution the person who reported could show the last frame before reporting to show where they were. (I’ve seen so many people get voted off because they forgot where they were) There would also be two player tasks to do like a big wiring board where you would need someone on both sides to complete it.(Optionally you could do it your self by completing one side then walking to the other side)

The imposter roles

The Infiltrator-The infiltrator could have the choice to be able to do visual tasks for one minute or be able to kill. During the minute that the Infiltrator can do visual tasks the Infiltrator cannot kill anyone. If the one minute timer were to run out while the Infiltrator was doing a task the task would corrupt like the medbay light would turn from green to red.

The Crawler- The crawler once they kill someone can drag the body into a vent and bring it to a different location but the body will leave a trail of blood in their path. The blood will also cover the vent and if any other imposter go throught they will get covered in blood for 7 seconds and it will alert people that the person is an imposter.

Polus exclusive roles

The Survivalist-the survivalist could see footprints of the imposters and where they went but not on metal only in the snow  they can see if someone went in a vent but only if the imposter went in the vent at most 10 seconds ago

The Digger-can dig new vents in the snow outside but it would only last for like 25 seconds  and only one vent at a time but people could see the digger digging the new vent by a bump in the snow. Also the digger can't sabotage thing like reactor or lights but can close doors.

But thats it for my ideas but thank you Puffballsunited for making this gem of a game

The ideas is good, but I think should keep less roles so ppl find it simple and easy to play.

You should definitely keep the game we have now, completely original and with minimal changes as a playable option. This will stop among us from dying because older players want the old game.

Another suggestion, in the bottom left, add the player list with their signal strength. That way, it can be easier to tell if they are lagging or if it's the entire room. Those who quit, their box can be gray, but everyone else is shown. No indicator if dead or alive.

there should definitely be a tanner role like in one night ultimate werewolf. Basically it’s a role where the player wants to be killed and wins if they are. So the imposters know who this person is and avoid killing him but the crew mates do not know. This role would help discourage people from giving up or calling out the other imposter when they are caught because they will seem like a tanner when they say “vote me out”. Players will be more careful to vote out certain people because it could mean the tanner instantly wins if he dies because the crew voted wrong or too eagerly.
