Does your game or video link contain movie spoilers?

Yes (major spoilers)

Please list any pre-made art/music/other assets that you used.
The music and sound effects were all pre-made. Thanks to the US Army Blues for their jazz covers, and freesfx.co.uk for sound effects. All other art was made (poorly) by us!

Anything you want to say to players before they play?
The game is aiming to capture the triumphant feeling of the final scene in Whiplash. The controls are done to be a finger-twister on the keyboard, where each key must be held down (and remain down) to properly spell out positive words/jazz words/instrument types. In this way, the same way Andrew felt nervous but had to keep telling himself he was the best and was going to prove Fletcher wrong the player must keep scoring 'positive words' and stay calm under the frantic pressure of the finger-twister and word search letters.
This is the prototype, and we know there may be some limitations to keyboards being able to hold down too many letters at once. Try doing smaller words in the longer ones if your keyboard can't get the whole word, i.e. ROCKING -> ROCK. If you can't use 'START' to start the game, use 'STA' as an alternative.
Enjoy!

Neat concept! I included it in my Movie Game Jam compilation video series, if you’d like to check it out! :)

The concept was very cool I have a keyboard that should be able to handle the controls but for some reason I seemed to still struggle. I am so happy that you participated and were able to finish. That alone is a great accomplishment. Thanks for submitting I hope to play more games you all make.

A really neat concept, but severely limited by the number of keys that most keyboards will be able to register at the same time. I'm normally a fan of unique title screens with cool ways to proceed, but I think that hurt you a lot in this game. Seems like most people who tried it can't get past the title screen.

It took me a while to figure out the shift+ctrl mechanic until the first word that used a letter twice came up.

This would be tough for a game jam game, but this game needs to have work done on it's word detection. More than once, I would spell a perfectly valid word, but since it wasn't the exact word the game was looking for, I didn't get points.

Thanks for the comments!

We recognized (perhaps a little too late) that the keys on the keyboard would severely limit the game. Going forward, I think if we improve upon anything we will try to make it a touch-screen based implementation so that it is less limited.

Sorry to hear there was trouble with the title screen- Our hope was to 'tutorial-ize' the main gameplay in the title screen so people would have to practice each mechanic at least once before starting the game (i.e. holding down letters, using space or enter to score, using shift+ctrl to copy for the word 'START'). It seems like we didn't manage to get that across too effectively.

Thanks again so much for your comments, we really appreciate the feedback!
