Nice job with the parallax and hit flash. Plus, that music was boppin. I found shooting up and hitting the flying enemies difficult. The character controller also felt stiff. If you take this further, I'd love to have some speed lerping on the movement, making sure the jump can be performed while moving left or right consistently, and improved aiming.
As for your problem with aiming and jumping, I've put warning in Controls.txt not to use keypads since they prevent proper aiming and jumping. If you've used Numpads as I've recommended, you could aim and jump properly :).
