Introducing Game Embeds

You’ve just finished your Ludum Dare 35 game, and you’re looking to take advantage of embedding your game directly into your Ludum Dare submission page…

or…  you have your own page where you’d like to host your game, but you still want to still use itch.io to upload and update your game.

itch.io has you covered, introducing game embeds!

Any HTML or Flash project can now be embedded by pasting a little HTML snippet, similar to our existing widget that lets you buy or donate to a project.

You can generate the iframe based code from the “Embed game” section of the Distribute tab. You can choose the file you’d like to embed, customize the size, and change the color. Every embed comes with a link back to your game page on itch.io along with a fullscreen button.

You can even preview the embed directly inside the itch.io page, as seen above.

Embeds are specific to the file you’ve chosen. This means you can have multiple versions of your game (eg. a jam version) and independent embeds for each of them.

Look forward to analytics and more customization options in the near future.

Enjoy!

Hey, anyway to update this so that godot 4.2 projects work like this? Id love to display my games on my site and lead them back to itch.io.

Late reply, but it should be possible on 4.3 with Threads disabled and SharedArrayBuffer disabled.

I wanna put some image instead of background color but it doesn't work! Can you help please?

doesnt work says refused to connect

Hello! I would like to embed my game on my own website. When I do, the ability to scroll goes away. I clicked "enable scrollbars" in the edit game segment. I can scroll on the page where the game is hosted on itch.io. However, when I embed the game on my own website using an iframe, the scrollbars are not around at all. I've tried including "scrolling="yes"" in my iframe embed on my own website, but that didn't work. Any simple fix for this?

Hello! I've tried this too and it doesn't work either ): I even tried adding overflow: scroll to my css file, but it didn't work either. It seems to be a problem with the embed for itch.io itself. I hope there can be a fix for this!

When I try and embed my tool, it does not allow me to run it in the iframe, only giving the link to play it on itch.io. That's not very useful. Am I doing something wrong?

You're probably in "Widget" on the menu bar, look under it to "embed game" in the menu bar on the left.

can you embed others' games?

trying to put the game on my Wordpress page.. somehow it doesn't work. any ideas? <3

If you are using Wordpress.com is not allowed. And on self hosted WP the Iframes are removed, you need to install a Plugin to embed iframes.

Try this plugin to embed or make iframes in self hosted WordPress - WP HTML5 EMBED - plugin

I'm trying to post to the Adobe Portfolio site which says it supports itch.io, but the embed code is giving me an error "This embed code is not valid".

Admin

We only support embed codes that are regular HTML iframe tags. No embeds that use JavaScript or a script tag are supported. Hope that helps.

It looks as though the code Adobe Portfolio are looking for is using regular HTML iframe tags, but there is still an error - there is no mention of javascript.

Can I embed other peoples games, or only my own?

I love this functionality, but I have one question: I do have two versions of the HTML game: a jam version and a more polished one; the latter is public in the game page. I want to create an embed for the jam version, but the drop down menu only allows me to select the one that's public. How do I select another version of the game to embed?

Any help here... please? :(

Admin

It's not possible right now. You could create a second game page with the old version, grab the embed URL, then have a link to that from your other page.

Can I pay to remove the itch.io watermark in the embed?

Admin

Sorry, we don't offer that as an option right now
