About

Liminal Spaces are an internet phenomenon that gained traction in 2014 with the first pictures and theories around the creepy-pasta "The Backrooms" getting popular. Liminal Spaces seem wrong, eerie and often create a weird feeling of nostalgia, as if you have seen this place before in a dream.

In this game jam, you will be given one month to create a game based around Liminal Spaces. It is appreciated, but there does not need to be a focus on horror, which often comes from its own, due to the nature of Liminal Spaces.

Theme

This game jam will be, as it's title already says, about Liminal Spaces and Liminal Horror as we think this is an interesting, but also beginner friendly, topic.

Topic: "Have I been here before?"

Rules

1. Game must be started and "finished" within the month.

2. Reusing old code and assets is totally fine. Using an old project and updating it is fine, as long as:

Its a relatively incomplete/small project
You haven't submitted it to a previous jam
You significantly develop/improve it during the jam.

3. Teams of any size are allowed. Make sure to go to our Discord to find people to team up with!

4. You must have permission/rights for any 3rd party asset you use (obviously).

Ratings

The following aspects of your game will be rated:

Design / Liminality - Does the game fit the theme? Is it a well designed liminal space?
Functionality - Does your game work? How polished is it?
Idea - How original are the designed Liminal Spaces?
Horror - Is the game scary? (Bonus points)
