I've always wanted to play this game, but tracking down an original DOS copy has always been something of a nightmare. Is this updated version still in development?

No more development, this is the final version of this version of the game.  We may do a sequel at some point.  There was a partially complete version of Ironseed 2 called Beyond the Rim.
