Confused about the shortcuts

I may be not getting something here, but once I opened I Left for the first time it told me shortcuts like <c-o>. I was super confused about what to press, was it "c" or "o" or both at the same time or "c", "o", and "-"? I eventually realised the c stood for character, but this unnecessary encoding is stupid. It confuses the new user and just makes it harder to start out with the program. I recommend just using words to describe the shortcuts.

Like I'm so confused I'm still reading the ducking manual and have no clue how to use it and what to press!

I thought the <c-o> means command+o on a macbook and control+o on a windows machine
