What do you think of my First Free Non-Violent Android Game, Balloon Rescue?

Hello and thankyou for reading my Post!
I am a new Game Developer and Balloon Rescue is my first game.
Its developed in Unity, and took about a year to complete. I would really appreciate any feedback and if you could rate my game in Google Play that would be awesome. (I literally have no ratings as yet  -31/05/2020)
If you have any ideas for new levels I will certainly consider them.
Thanks again - Toroid Games - Daniel Hazelton.

I’ve taken a look at your game page and the trailer. Unfortunately I can’t try the game itself currently, hope that’s alright.

It looks like a fun game, and congratulations for finishing it! It’s quite a tough task to finish a game, especially if its your first one!

Having said that, I have some feedback that could probably improve the game:

  • The button to exit the options is called “Exit Options”. This might be confusing, as for some users it might be unclear if this means the changes are saved, or discarded (like in other games). I would suggest something different like “Apply”. I think even “Close” would work, as it does not imply discarding data (like “Exit” does).
  • I think the bottom part of the game uses a lot of text, and it might be distracting from the game itself. I would suggest to replace some of the text elements with something visual. For example the “Fuel” field could be a bar that is constantly decreasing. This way the user will be able to tell with a quick glimpse if they have enough fuel, instead of trying to calculate if “500 fuel” is enough.
  • I’d suggest the same for the lives and possibly the survivors. Instead of having a number, you can have small icons for each life/survivor. For example if the user has 3 lives, you can display 3 hearts.
  • It seems the main mechanism of the game is navigating through a path to rescue survivors, and navigating the same exact path backwards. This is an interesting concept, but I’d prefer if the game took advantage of it. For example once the balloon navigates through the stage, some parts of the stage change, so as the user navigates back, they now face a slightly different path. I find it not that challenging to complete the same stage twice.
  • I think the sound effect when rescuing a survivor is a little “too much”. I’d prefer a smaller cheer, with the big one being heard when you rescue the last one maybe? My experience with audio isn’t that great, so not sure what would sound better.

Apart from these, the game’s page could also use some improvement. Unfortunately this is part of graphics design, which is not my cup of tea. The only things I would suggest is to make the game look a little bit more like it’s “part of the game”.

One last thing, about the trailer. When I watch the trailer of a game, I’d prefer to “dive straight into the action”. As in, I don’t want to see the game’s settings, or menus. Most users assume games have settings that work.

Please keep in mind these are all my opinions, based on my experience. I’m still learning game development and design. :)

Thankyou very much for your feedback  - much appreciated!
