I get that this platform is doing what is in its best interest so that not all indie devs lose access to their source of income, but really? No warning? No given timeline so that we can achieve games? And also just outright deleting content instead of delisting it?
The least you could do is have the courtesy of informing your users that your hands were tied in this regard.
This whole thing seems like a rushed action that doesn’t sit well with anyone in the community. Even for people who don’t actively engage with NSFW content, a lot of them don’t seem to like the idea that Itch can just immediately bend a knee so hard to a bigoted/religious group that actively wants censorship of video games.
If itch can bend the knee so hard for one group, are they going to repeat the same mistake again if someone in the US thinks about petitioning payment processors to ban LGBT content? What about Asian countries? Where religious symbols are often a hot topic for censorship? What about countries like the UK where they try to push for the deanonymization of everyone on the internet? Is Itch just going to work against its user base every time someone makes a fuss about culture war garbage? Are they going to suddenly go after horror games too because they might tackle some taboo topics or have content that is a bit too graphic in some regions of the world?
A lot of users on Itch rely on this platform to access and publish content that lets them express themselves, if one group of people - no matter how small - is targeted directly or indirectly; no one else feels safe, and no one will feel comfortable knowing that the content they purchase could end up disappearing one day because of outside pressure.
