Hi all,
My name's David, I'm a musician/fledgling composer and producer from Australia. My primary instrument has been drums (20+ years), but I also play piano and am learning guitar and bass. I have experience recording, and have been recently dabbling with composing my own original works. I have an extensive knowledge of music theory, and have a variety of tastes. I have also been gaming since around 1990 and I know what sorts of tunes have stayed trapped in my mind over all these years and believe I have a knack for writing catchy tunes.
Music tastes? Everything from classical piano and orchestral works and movie soundtracks, all the way through to prog rock and death metal. Ever seen John Williams, Chopin, and Fleshgod Apocalypse mentioned in the same sentence? Well, now you have.
What can I write? I'll try my hand at anything. I've got a little demo tune written with the idea of an 8-bit space adventure in mind, I'm writing a progressive metal/deathcore album, and I am working on an orchestral portfolio piece to hone my skills in that highly-demanding area of composition. I've dabbled with writing pop music on acoustic guitar, written and performed original drum parts in a progressive rock band, and listened to enough music of many varieties over the years to understand what people expect and like to hear.
What's the catch? None, really. I'm just getting started but I'm enough of a perfectionist to listen to the music over and over to make sure nothing is out of place.
What else do you need to know? Well, my day job pays quite well and leaves me with plenty of spare time to work on playing and writing music. So I can afford to either charge you money up-front for the complete rights and ownership of the music, or sign somewhat flexible royalty contracts that accommodate your market and budget.
So really what I'm saying is, if you're broke now and release a game with my music, and the game bombs, then you don't become more broke on my behalf. But if your game sells a million copies then we all have a good time and everyone is happy! So for you, this is pretty much a no-lose scenario, and for me it means I get to hone my skills and get more of that precious "exposure" currency :).
