Schism

i.e. a split or division between strongly opposed sections or parties.

Synopsis

Lev (she/they), sixteen, is struggling with her mental health while juggling school and the emotional turmoil of adolescence. Their unsupportive parents, along with non existent friends, leave them facing a troublesome life alone. Her only solace comes from nightly escapades and impromptu moments of wonder and beauty. Will she be able to overcome the traps laid out by mental illness? Or will her sanity recede till it reaches a breaking point?

Key Points

  • Free Of Charge: The full release will be available to all.
  • A Kinetic Novel: No choices, no different endings, just one story focused on exploring a fleshed out protagonist and theme.
  • Faithful To Real Life: A portrayal of mental illness grounded in reality, as experienced by myself.

Release

~ Mid-November 2024 (subject to change)

Log:

This is my first post about the game. I've been working on it tirelessly for almost a week. I feel satisfied with the progress so far despite needing to polish my writing. This is a visual novel of my own making and it is making me excited!

To me visual novels are like trains of thought, you inhabit a character's mind and understand their motivations as it comes to them. It requires to balance conciseness with padding. Because the journey is as important as the destination.

As I write my character's inner dialogue, they take a life of  their own, as if they were living inside my brain. Fleshing them out makes them more human, more relatable. I've become obsessed with her.

Thinking about the threads of my story, how they intertwine, how some are hidden and others visible, I think about my own life. I realize a work of art improves one's mastery and self knowledge.

I improved the GUI and did some writing. Spent the last 2 days sleeping for the most part.

No screenshot for today, but good news: I'm commissioning art. You can expect to see a full color cover in a few weeks. The rest of the art will be sketches and I won't display any of them until the full game is released.

The project has a bit over 4k words now.

Quick update: the writing hasn't progressed, I have been focused mostly on preparing material for the art. And resting.
