I started working on Blank Bit last November for GitHub's Game Off 2018 game jam, where it ranked in the top 20 overall and was named a "Staff Pick" by the organizers. Since then, I've been improving and polishing this prototype for the Finally Finish Something game jam. Now that finished demo is live and I'd greatly appreciate some feedback on the game.
Some quick background on Blank Bit's concept: The game is inspired partly by titles like Downwell and Celeste, where quick decision making meets tricky, complicated platforming. But because Blank Bit was created for a game jam with the theme "hybrid", I wanted to add a twist of some kind to the mechanics. I decided to go with something inspired by card games, where you essentially build a hand of cards as you move through the world, and you can only use one card at a time as you go. So you can JUMP, DASH, BOOST, and ERASE, and chain those moves together in order to make combos that rack up points. Ultimately, you want to see how far you can climb through the procedurally generated level and score as high as possible before you inevitably die.
Here's a quick video that shows a typical short run in Blank Bit.
Anyway, thanks for reading and giving this little project a look! :)
