I have a game idea and want to offer it to a dev team willing to make the game for me to buy it

For quite some years already I am looking for a game that doesn't exist yet, and at the same time I am constantly wondering why developers make games without knowing who wants to actually play it and then having a hard time marketing it. I wonder why the gaming market is still a push market, while it would be so much easier, if there would be a forum where gamers would be able to post their ideas of games they would have fun playing and upvote other game ideas, and then developers would be able to pick a high voted game idea and realize it, instead of making a game first and then trying to find out who would buy it.

I don't know if this is the right place to start but here is my game idea. This is just a braindump and can be fleshed out more as soon as someone really wants to make this game. At this point I just want to spark inspiration, because I really want to see such a game for me to buy and play in the future. I hope there are others like me as well, who also want to see such a game.

Working Title: The Immersive Luxury Resort Simulation (Single Player)

Features:

  • Architecture / Build Mode (top or isometric view)
    • Be able to build your luxury resort with beach hotel, sauna, massage rooms, pools, grottos, lagunas, zen archery range, zen stone stacking, gardening, beach, yacht mooring, etc.
  • Management Mode (management screens)
    • Be able to manage a holiday season including room booking, scheduling, activities, hire personnel like hotel staff, animators, masseurs, etc.
  • Tourist Mode (1st person and over-the-shoulder view)
    • Be able to participate in activities like swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing, beach volleyball, using amenities like sauna, pool, zen archery range, climbing wall, etc.
  • Transportation Modes
    • Be able to captain a luxury yacht with a small tender boat to bring spa guests onto and from the yacht and host yacht parties.

Gameplay Loops:

  1. Character Editor
    1. Starting in a small changing hut on the beach
    2. Base character selection from a seamless gender spectrum with some customization options.
    3. Simple choice of swimwear (or naked for the naturism fans)
  2. Movement and Poses in 1st and 3rd person for both, player and AI NPCs
    1. Walking / Running / Sprinting / Jumping
    2. Squatting / Sitting / Lounging / Sleeping
    3. Swimming / Diving
    4. Climbing
    5. Dancing (Everything from Yacht Party Disco to Poledance / Lapdance)
  3. Activities (Use World Item)
    1. Pick up / Throw / Punch Volleyball / Waterball
    2. Mix / Serve / Drink Cocktail
    3. Build / Destroy Sand Castles
    4. Operate Computers (this should open the Management UIs and switch to Management Mode)
    5. Open / Close Lockers
    6. Dress / Undress
  4. Interaction with AI NPCs
    1. Fully Voiced Dialog System (May be using Speech Recognition via Microphone, generative AI and Text to Speech for responses)
    2. Cooperative and Competitive Gameplay (Ball Sports, Running, Climbing, Swimming Diving, Drinking Games,...)
    3. Getting a Spa Massage (Both SFW and NSFW versions depending on player age and preference)
  5. Exploration and Long Term Player Attachment
    1. Finding secrets all over the place, either physical or by taking photos
    2. Possibility to decorate your hotel room or yacht cabin with found stuff
    3. Seasonal Events as DLC packs with more content like clothing, items, new gameplay activities related to those items (like scuba gear addon, or jet-ski addon, or wildwater rafting addon, etc.)
    4. Potential Mystery Investigations
    5. Future Expansions into the inland visiting local markets and sight-seeing spots to get cosmetic items for the character like clothing and other collectible stuff
  6. etc.

Don't call it feature creep. Freedom of Choice is only possible if there are enough options to choose from. And the Freedom of Choice to do what you want and the possibility to add even more options going forward, is what makes such a game successful in the long run.

while it would be so much easier if it would be a pull market

Uhm. It would be like asking small kids, what they would want to eat.

Also, effectively there are so many games that people already can pull the games they like. And how would that even work, if only the games get realized, that a majority voted on? What kind of games would we get? Macaroni&Cheese pizza with chocolate chips baked in?

Anyways, I believe that it would just be a push market with extra steps. Instead of a dev pushing their own original ideas (or copying and catering to existing known formulae), they would push the ideas of a small subgroup of gamers from some voting board.

Of course it would be a nice source of inspiration, but I highly doubt, it would be as effective as you might think. The problem is idea development. You do not know if an original idea would work, until you tried it. Just look at something like idle games. Imagine a pitch about such a game before the success of Cookie Clicker.

Everyone's got an idea man. That's why. They make what they wanna make.

Making that sound like its a bad thing, but it is afterall their game, the only people itll affect is themselves not getting any cloud

A lot of devs choose the right genres, also the right ideas what they lack is features, design, story(Not necessarily all of them at once im just listing potential reasons). And why would you choose a small indie game that was either made with no budget or only minor budget, when theres AAA studios out there making the same game, or just People with a higher budget who makes smt better, thats the issue.

This game idea is simply MASSIVE. Also, there are lots of games about running a resort. If you're not seeing all these features in those games, its because its way too much work!

This idea is not massive. it is not even fully fleshed out. It is just a start of what I invision. It should grow over time.
Also it is possible if enough people want to play such a game, then support the development of it and finally it gets made.

What would be those existing games about running a resort, I didn't find any on itch or patreon. I found one on Steam but it got crappy ratings and IMHO this is because all those features I suggested, are missing, so it feels boring.

I am constantly wondering why developers make games without knowing who wants to actually play it and then having a hard time marketing it.

That's how developers make games, they make games that they love. That's why we get successful titles.

But yeah, we got failed titles also because of that. However, failed doesn't mean bad.

it would be so much easier, if there would be a forum where gamers would be able to post their ideas of games they would have fun playing and upvote other game ideas, and then developers would be able to pick a high voted game idea and realize it

I can see your idea and reason here however it is not that simple. Developers aren't machines which could be programmed to create certain game by order from people or a superior being. Developers make games because they love it.

This idea sounds like opening can of worms and might open long discussion so my last comment on it is this : your idea might work for some game ideas but not all of them.

Now about your game idea: That's a complex game concept! I agree with what ChiralPixels posted above. IMO it's like combining Resort simulator and The Sims in one game in which either game is complex already.

The reason why nobody haven't made such game is because it's complex and massive which require lots of time and money to make. It's too risky even for AAA company to create such game let alone indie devs.

is what makes such a game successful in the long run.

If you were a successful developer, I'd believe that.

The Sims is not even close to what I mean. The Sims cannot be played in 1st person with direct player driven activities for instance, which is key part of my idea. I don't want it to be point and click or just indrectly influencing the actions of the main character. The character should be controlled using WASD and Mouselook.

Polishing a game can take years, even a decade. Almost nobody will do it for that long without proper funding throughout the dev process. Passionate people get burned out too and they have bills to pay.

I personally haven't seen any indie dev team who's into a tycoon x gta type of game like this one, from posts here on itch and devlogs on youtube.

For alternatives, you can hire developers to create your dream game,

or start learning unity! Who knows, maybe you can be agamedev yourself.
